i asked what method not which rom pie :)
but thank you for the reply i appreciate it. :good:

Ah OK... Sorry dear... I tried both, twrp as well as fastboot.
I guess the problem is our system partition is smaller than what is required for Pie. We have less than 2 GB whereas it needs more than that.
May be thats why a few of the Oreo gsi don't boot too.
Like was never able to boot Oreo Pixel Experience.

Someone installed the official 839 oreo version for AL10? I cannot root it with patching the ramdisk.img and flashing.
The phone didnt reboot properly.
I have to flash the stock ramdisk.img to get working again.

Go for DL00. Everything works there. Dual sim.
.etc...

Or flash cust.img of your L09 on AL10 and you will get SIM working

L09 is single sim.

Flashing a cust.img of nougat can work on debranded oreo? How or where I can find cust.img of L09? i've been looking a lot. Now Im on oreo and signal is working, but there are some graphic glitches on bottom screen when multiscreen or splitscreen are active. Y thoug maybe backuping cust partition then clean upgrade, then restore cust... but twrp fail to mount that partition and version. Maybe there is another way mmm I dont know. Feel lost xd

Hi I've gotten stuck trying to update. I initially was running EMUI 4 with Android 6. Tried installing twrp-3.4.0-0-next.img via Fastboot. For some reason no matter what version of Fastboot I install, it keeps going to EMUI Huawei eRecovery. I initially got stuck and couldn't even get anywhere, but was able to get the phone working with the eRecovery. Any ideas what I can try.
I tried running TWRP-3.1.0-EMUI-5.0.img via Fastboot as provided here, but also just getting to Huawei eRecovery. Is there any way around this?

For those of you restless guys like me.....here is how you can flash Oreo through TWRP....
You should be on Chinese stock B596 or debrand to Chinese stock B596 first.
1. Obtain the unlock code of the loader (DC-Unlocker, site).
2. Unlock the loader.
3. Install TWRP .
4. Download the HWOTA folder and unpack it on your PC.
5. Download the firmware and rename the archives:
- update_data_full_public.zip to update_data_public.zip ,
- update_full _... zip to update_all_hw.zip ,
- update.zip leave unchanged.
6. Copy the above archives to the HWOTA folder.
7. Copy the HWOTA folder to the root of the SD card.
8. Go to TWRP, to update, select the nxt_hwota_update.zip archive in the HWOTA folder and start the installation. It will reboot and start the installation.

I have successfully flashed and looks like most of the things working. Too early to predict battery, performance,...etc.

    IMPORTANT :
I have flashed on stock B596. I dont know if this works on other region or ROMs. Let us know if someone had tried. Try at your own risk.

    CAUTION :
Just checked with HiSuite 8.0. It is not giving option to go back to Nougat as mentioned in the changelog. Have not checked with HiSuite 5.0.
I guess Huawei will activate this option only once they release beta for testers.
FLASH WITH CAUTION KEEPING THIS IN MIND.

Only way to go back to B596 now is through eRecovery.

guys, with treble support u can now flash full vanilla aosp roms!!!!!!! omg with this last major update huawei gave the mate 8 basically endless life, amazing!

anyone willing to try and flash the treble aosp builds from xda? ;)

Sent from my Xiaomi Mi Max 2 (Oxygen) using Tapatalk

So I decided to deep dive and give it a shot (huge disclaimer here) The mate 8 I own is now my secondary phone, so I don't mind if it gets bricked, so if you're using it as a daily driver, I strongly recommend you to stay away from trying it.

So long story short, it worked with its lot of hassle. so after updating to Oreo following the instructions as listed in previous threads, I grabbed the Twrp (mate 9) version here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3783353 Followed the instructions and flashed it via fastboot. Then I grabbed this version here: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_...ses/download/v18/system-arm64-ab-gapps-su.img and followed the instructions here: https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/

It bootlooped a couple of times, I was about to give then I remembered reading in mate 9 forum that performing a factory or data reset via eRecovery can do the trick. So I performed a data wipe and the mate 8 finished the booting. However, you'll be presented with a couple of error messages such as your ''device has a problem, please contact the manufacturer'' or a message similar to that. Playstore seems broken, well I cannot install Apps, I am sure I will just have to update Gapps. Fingerprint works, although I am not a big fan of that feature. Upon rebooting, I was asked to reset the phone ''data corruption'' or something so I ended resetting the phone again. I haven't tried rebooting it again to see if it will give me the same message. It has just been installed for the last 30 min or so so don't ask me how's the battery and stuff and most likely I'll keep playing with by installing other AOSP flavors such as RR an see how it goes. Another thing to mention, looks like MTP is not functional, upon plugging the mate 8 to my computer, it did not mount. I'll provide you with an update later on.

As mentioned, if your phone is your daily driver, stay away from it.

I am uploading a screenshot I took, so you know that I am not telling fairy tales. Looks like the mate 8 will simply not give up.

    ask samvb for help
    Hi Samavb,
One help required. Mate 8 EMUI 8 TWRP spotted on Chinese site. See if you can help post the link.
    https://cn.club.vmall.com/thread-16048510-1-1-3122.html
    Thanks friend...

    Hello guys,

Thank you for the mention. Many times in my previous posts I mentioned I don't have access to these Chinese sites.
I searched in Google but I didn't get the file.
So I posted the question on reddit.com under r/AndroidQuestions asking any users who have access to above site to upload the TWRP 3.2.1 for Huawei mate 8 on different File hosting site & give me the link.
Meanwhile, I kept searching Google and found an interesting site https://www.androidsage.com/2017/12/02/twrp-3-2-0-android-download-install/
On this site they mentioned something about TWRP builder and steps to do it. You can have a look at this link.
    https://www.androidsage.com/2018/04/12/download-twrp-for-all-android-devices-official-unofficial/

On that page I clicked on Huawei - > I was redirected to twrp.me site and then clicked on Huawei Mate 8 (next)
Then I was taken to TWRP for Huawei Mate 8 page

Below - Under the Download links - Primary Americas and Primary Europe
When I checked there - There is TWRP 3.2.1
    https://mega.nz/#!KuAEgLbJ!q6fxL6M9LxTTKyZnf6iGn_6ND0bwyrSNq8n812zPbh8
Link to download directly from TWRP (for Huawei Mate 8) - https://dl.twrp.me/next/

Once again I was damn lucky* to find it. Now I hope it works and doesn't give any unpleasant surprises. Fingers crossed * If it doesn't work then put your Huawei Mate 8 in fastboot mode (press and hold volume down & then connect your Mate 8 to computer. Open SRK tools - type 000 for command prompt - flash twrp 3.1.1.1 by typing the command fastboot flash recovery twrp ( before you type this you have to place the twrp 3.1.1.1 file inside the SRK tools folder and rename the file as twrp. ) Once you do this you should be able to boot normally & have your previous TWRP working. If any one reading this is new to flashing or not experienced with Mate 8 then please do not flash.

    Disclaimer
    * - Since, I found this on official TWRP site, we should be able to trust the file. Whether to flash this or not is entirely your decision. I am just sharing what I found. I hope this is the file we are searching for. I apologize to all if this file doesn't work. I searched and shared what I found. I didn't make this file so please DON'T blame me if it doesn't work
There is always risk involved & no guarantee this will work. So proceed with caution. Always take backup of your data before you flash anything.

Personally, I feel it would be better if franzyroy tests this file and checks if it is safe to flash it. May be he can help us.

Thanks for all the efforts Samavb.
Edit- Uploading TWRP directly here in attachments didn't work. I re-uploaded the TWRP file into mega. link is on the top. You can also download directly from TWRP site. That is why I mentioned the direct link too. Please check on top.

    Cheers! :good::good::good::good:

So after a lot of efforts by @irony_delerium , I am on camera working RR.
Haven't checked all the functionalities yet.
    Will keep posted.
    Many many thanks to him...
I am sure he will post the details here soon.

Used it for 5-6 days and this is what I have observed :
    1. System is smooth and fluid. All working per my use. I am not a Gamer so haven't played any.
    2. Battery as good as chinese Nougat but not as good as MM.
    3. Interface and asthetics changes are less compared to what it was from MM to Nougat. You will feel like you are on Nougat only.
    4. Settings compressed to fewer heads and then sub Settings under each.
    5. WIFI and connectivity unstable sometimes.
    6. Didn't notice any scrolling issue.
    7. Voice unclear sometimes on call.
    8. All Google apps and contact sync working good.
    9. Twin app is available for whatsapp which was not there on Chinese Nougat.

All in all, no major issue considering it is a beta. I am sure Huawei will release a solid stable update.
