INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR DIFFERENT BUILDS
DarkStone1337 - HTC Sense (Desire build)

1. Download from one of the above sites and extract the contents to your pc
2. Copy all files to the ROOT of your Storage Card

3. Soft Reset your device then using a File Manager goto your Storage Card and run clrad.exe (it wont do anything but it has run) followed by haret.exe (do this within 30 seconds of your phone booting into Windows Mobile)
4. Wait for Android to boot (may take upto 5 minutes)

I was wondering, once you have settled down over a stable build, is it possible to somehow "write" that build over your phone? In other words, make it so that my phone boots into my build - or replace WinMo with it. I'd love to be be able to reclaim that space.:)

Apologies if this has been answered before. I am asking because I could not find the answer. I'd be grateful if someone would point me in the right direction.

Thank you in advance!

You cant flash an sd card build to your phones internal memory but if you goto the NAND flashing guide in my sig it gives you instructions on how to flash a NAND Android Rom to your phone and replace WinMo so that the phone boots directly into Android.

MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.6 doesn't find my wifi connection!

I've tried a few Android builds, mostly SD-versions, and they all got the same problem, except SuperRAM FroYo v1.5 and shubCRAFT 2.0★CM6 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870518 ,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740963). Those two find my wifi connection right away, but all the rest don't, no matter how hard I try. The MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.6 does find my neighbour's connection but not mine :( It doesn't make any effect whether I put the connection visible or not.
My connection is secured with WPA-PSK (AES)

What can I do?

Well, I tried once again to restart my router while my phone was scanning wifi.
It found the connection and it appeared that the security level is OPEN and it's not. It is WPA-PSK (AES) like I said before. So I made a connection and it showed ''NOT IN RANGE'' right after it. I tried the whole process for few more times and then it showed ''obtaining IP-Address'' but then wifi disconnected.

As long as you can see other networks and connect to them is obvious a router configuration issue. I would suggest to reset and reconfigure the router. I also use a WiFi d-link router and each time I had connection issues were caused by it.

Why not an Android App to easy install dualboot

As Wubi is for MS WOS (Windows Operating System) an Android App to dual boot install Ubuntu with Android as easy as Wubi, perhaps "AnUBIs" would be a good name.

Thanks for all your work, but even this thread has amazing 975 pages dual boot Android/Ubuntu - or other distro - devices, would be a great app at Android Market or if it is banned at alternative Android Stores.

I think that in a near future, Android tablets with Ubuntu dual boot, and perhaps with a slide thin keyboard - similar to Apple desktop ones - will be killer devices.

You would be able to even monetize your work, When I'll have a tablet I will prefer to pay for this app a little price than do all the steps needed today.

I think this Android app can download files, execute all the steps even the first Ubuntu update/upgrade with not a lot of work making this app.

Obviously as today each device has it owns steps the most diffcult task is to recognize the device - and or select it - and do the steps for your device.

Ubuntu ARM will be installed more with this app, and perhaps the same Ubuntu would do it, even I posted this idea at Ubuntu Brainstorm and it has been not very wellcome

idle battery drain

In trying several Android SD builds (Cope's and Warrenb's CM7, Daniest's Desire Z) I am facing the same issue over and over. Initially the phone idles with the battery drain around 5ma (which is suitable for daily use), after a day or two, idle battery drain jumps to around 60ma (with wifi/bluetooth/gps/syncing/background data turned off), making the build fairly useless. Rebooting or turning Airplane mode on/off does not solve the issue.

Any ideas on what could be the problem or how to find out what applications are causing this change?

I searched several threads, but cannot find any helpful answers.

I would also like to know about suspend please

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could tell me the implications of the following phrase on the wiki?

Power Management - Frequency scaling via governors supported, No suspend support

I've loaded darkstone's Froyo onto my HD2 and it's running very nicely. I'm just wondering if the above line from the wiki means that Android will never have power management capabilities on the HD2 as good as when the HD2 is running WinMo?

I've done some searching around but most of what I found seemed from a while ago and not sure if it's relevant.

Much appreciated!

milka

Dear ones,

Can someone please explain this?

Blessings,
Shahar

It basically means that Android cannot call a "halt" to the CPU, but the governor can set the CPU speed to save power, more specifically if its in standby the Qualcomm CPU will get down-clocked to ~230Mhz

Dear jonbasa,

Is halting the CPU a regular feature of android phones or these types of CPUs? They wake up when they're needed?

Blessings,
Shahar

Well halting basically means that the CPU can go into a "sleep mode" if the device is in standby. whether or not the Qualcomm CPU can support that function natively, I don't know.

If anyone is having battery issues you should change the kernel if possible.

Ndrive 10.1.15

I installed CopenWarren's Cyanogenmod 7 on my HD2 build 4/2/11.
Ndrive does not work. It opens and then closes again. Any ideas on how to get it working?

It was working perfectly on Darkstone1337's superramfroyo 1.5

Development thread for Linux on the HTC HD2:cool:

PLEASE READ THE FAQ BEFORE POSTING QUESTIONS

    Introduction:
To run any Linux based user space on a device -this includes android, debian, ubuntu, openembedded, etc- you need a working Linux kernel.
This thread discusses the development on Linux kernel and user space on the HTC HD2.
All android ports to windows phones are based on the efforts of porting the Linux kernel to these devices. This is what all the porting is about. Nobody is porting Google Android to these phones. It works already.

    Contributing:
This is not a secret club. All source code and development information is publicly available. Everybody who is willing to contribute is free to join the development process.

People working on porting Linux to HD2:
You can donate to the developers putting a lot of time into this Linux kernel port.
(putting together android files (=>making "roms") is not the porting)

    working flashlight
    ppp stability
usb stability (works with windows7 now)
    fixed usb host mode kernel
working backlight control in normal Linux distros
working WiFi master (access point) mode: enables tethering (you might need to update firmware files. )

09/05/2010 We have been working on a new kernel base for the HD2 for few days now. Markinus started the initiative by introducing our present HD2 specific changes in the EVO4G release kernel source code. Right now the htc-msm-2.6.32 branch is still more advanced. We might create an autobuild for the EVO4G base kernel in case it will be superior at some point.

    Builds

    Global notes:
*None of the current releases will touch your internal flash. After restart you are back in the usual winmo.
*When Linux is booted, windoes mobile is shutdown abruptly. Although this is very rare it can cause some data loss. Please save your work and make frequent backups!
*You need at least a 2.08 radio rom version installed on your HD2. If yu have an older version you might not be able to boot Linux.

Click here to view autobuild history (archived dated zImages and modules)

Most recent zImage (Linux kernel image)
    zImage-htcleo-latest
The Linux kernel is the core element of your operating system. It contains most of the drivers. It is supplied in form of a compressed (gzipped) executable binary Image. Along with an initial rootfilesystem aka initrd it is loaded into memory and executed by the bootlaoder HaRET.

Most recent Linux kernel modules to match zImage-htcleo-latest (has bcm4329.ko)
    modules-htcleo-latest.tgz
Kernel modules are drivers that are not included in the zImage. They go seperately in .ko files. bcm4329.ko holds the wifi driver and tun.ko is needed for tunneling. For android use you must extract the modules.tgz file, search for the .ko files you need and copy them into /system/lib/modules/ directory. See FAQ for how to copy files into your android install.

    HaRET (bootloader)
    HaRET.exe
The haret bootloader is used to start Linux according to the instructions it reads from the file default.txt . If HaRET sees a file called startup.txt it will use this instead and boot Linux directly without any prompt.

startup.txt (bootloader/HaRET configuration - auto updated to match latest GIT kernel)
    startup.txt
NOTE: This example configuration only holds the parameters critical to booting with latest GIT. Ask the person supplying you with 'roms' for additional parameters needed. See FAQ section for more detail on parameters.

    Android
Please browse the main HD2 Android forum for various recent builds.
It is always important to install a recent kernel. See post #3 for how to.

    Cotulla

Hi I hope that no one hates me for posting the same question again but I noticed for cotulla there is a patch and I have downloaded it. The only thing is I am not sure how to install the patch. Does anyone have any idea how? I put it in the root directory but noticed no change.

Is there a certain program or folder that I should move the patch into? Any help would be great thanks. :D
