It's not my tablet but lithium batteries don't like heat and when the car is parket in the sun the temperature inside de car can reach 90ºC
Are you living inside a volcano or something? [emoji12]

When it's directly on Sun the surface is not exceeding 55-60C even the metal ones. Most li-ion batteries are operational till 60C and some can even reach 80C.

I believe that something else happened to that tablet not just the heat

I have an easy cap capture USB device installed with a rear view camera and the easycap viewer software. The camera works perfect, but for some reason i can't get the actual software to auto detect when i shift to reverse. Can i get Tasker to auto launch the software when it detects the signal and minimize when the signal is gone?

i installed this but the problem is the capture usb device detects noise and that is considered signal so i cant use the signal method...
i ended adding a relay connected to the reverse light to activate the 5v on the usb device.

If anyone is interested in Android 6.0 for using in Car I have ported the usb changes from Oxydo kernel to DC-Kernel and use OmniRom-HOMEMAKE. Its working well and it has got Double Tap to Wake as I don't keep the screen on 100% of time. Thanks to @daniel_hk for his good .........
This was awesome and I am now using this as my daily driver. Could you please upload the merged version to github, so that further improvements made to dc kernel can be merged into this?

Thanks a ton.:cowboy:

Hi everyone! I have my nexus 7 installed in the car, it has the timur's USB rom and it is connected to the speakers through the FiiO e10 DAC, but here is the problem - the potentiometer does not seem to work, the volume's level is always constant, the volume is too low thereby ;(

any hints - is it the dac, or something that should be made within the nexus?

So what's the best?

So as of today, what's the best combination of ROM/Kernel for a fixed install on a car of the nexus 7 (2012) Grouper, with lollipop 5.1.1? Taking into account the USB OTG charging and USB audio known issues.

i am now on CM13 and my install would involve just tablet pop with magnet holders and aux connection (and obd2)

Can someone suggest me a good interface how to? i am using car dashboard but i am looking for something for elegant and functional.

Personally, I could not find anything I liked. What I ended up using was Nova Launcher, setting the icon size to 150% and making the grid size 5 wide by 4 tall to make everything nice and big. I like it.

I'm currently using a seat-bolt mount for my Nexus 7 Grouper with just simple aux cable and 12v cigarette lighter outlet charger. Works nice and doesn't take up any viewing area from the windshield like suction-cup mounts would; also more discreet than just having the tablet in clear view.

Robust Seat Bolt Tablet Car Mount on Amazon

ROM: GtrCraft's Unofficial PureNexus build with ParrotMod (no voice recog, but fastest build I have tried)
DashApp: AutoMate (very customizable, even in free version, and also most aesthetically pleasing IMO)

what have you done for the UI? i am thinking of multi screen interface since i will be connecting it with OBD also. for mounting i will be using neodymium magnets.

I think this thread is way beyond what I need, but I figured I would ask here.

I'm going to use my old Nexus 7 2012 as a Waze device 99% of the time. I might browse the internet occasionally or play YouTube or a video or something, but it will mostly just be for Waze while driving. So I've got my tablet, mount, Anker charger from Amazon, Anker 1ft cable from Amazon for charging, and that's all I really need. Which ROM and Kernel should I install to get the fastest possible response and lowest battery usage while idle? I don't really want to turn the tablet on and off each time, unless there is some kind of quick booting ROM, because right now it takes a good 60-90 seconds to boot (guessing). Any advice would be appreciated!
