I have an issue regarding snapchats memories. Over time I have had a lot of backups to the server fail and they have piled up a 2.5 gb mass on my phone. I would like to manually find these files and back them up. How can I do this and have them in a useable format? (Btw at the time I was unaware that videos were not automatically saving to my my phones storage, but rather going online only)

Hi Guys.... my issue is deferent from all above, and it seems strange for me, the \data\data\com.snapchat.android folder is not available completely on my HTC 10 device running android 7.0 while as I checked on my SAMSUNG galaxy tab 4, it was there.... is there any suggestions on what is the reason behind that or how to solve it?
Yeah each oem handles things differently. Also snap chat is working on a way to store the photos in a way that can't be intercepted. Making them encrypted so only the app can show them.
Actually I don't want to open pictures... I want to use Casper app with root permission and it is trying to detect my current login session in that mentioned folder /data/data/com.snapchat.android/shared_prefs, but unfortunately the folder is not found.....
You mat have issue there as snap chat has been blocking root users now for a while.
Yes they are, but if you are logged in before rooting, then you will be in safe, Casper.io is a third party app that can login to snap chat, but if you want to login both apps at the same time you need to use root in casper and in this case you will not been banned, but this method need to detect login session that can be found in that folder
Yeah I know, that is how I use it. I was just looking up Casper (I only use snap chat for my kids as no adults I know will use it lol) seems people are still getting banned from its use. Snap chat is working hard to block things like this.

If your phone is rooted, here is the directory where Snapchat stores all the stuff:
/data/user/0/com.snapchat.android/files/
There are many folders here that store different stuff like the thumbnails, bitmojis, filters, and of course stories and snaps also.
The 3 important sub-folders where you should search first are:
media_cache
gallery
file_manager

Hello guys, Im running F1 VM https://f1vm.com/ on my samsung galaxy s8 running android 9.0 imitating a android 7 nougat phone and It is rooted but I am trying to find where snapchat/whatsapp keeps original photos received from other contacts. I cannot find the /data/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_image_snaps folder in the VM. Also, when I take a photo with an iphone on a burner number via snapchat and send it to the VM, i cannot find the photo in the root folders on the VM. I have saved the photo in the chat. But i cannot find the original photo saved in the chat within root. How do i know where snapchat saves photos "saved in chat" ? Thank you
Where is this mysterious "/data/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_image_snaps/" folder. Which version of snapchat are you guys using? what device? what android model ? please be specific everyone
I dont see those folders or files within those folders. My phone can't be rooted but I did a snapchat test VM and it still doesn't get made

8I managed to decrypt a SnapChat. It was a relatively simple process.
1. Load the snapchat in the app, but don't view it.
2. Copy the .nomedia file from the "/data/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_image_snaps/" to your SD card.
3. This part you may be able to do on the phone but I emailed the file to myself so I could mess with it on my desktop computer. Make a copy of this file just in case.
4. Go to http://aes.online-domain-tools.com/. Change the input type to "file", upload the picture, set function to "AES", set mode to "ECB". CAUTION: It says on the website that data is transmitted over their network UNENCRYPTED!!! So be careful!
5. Using the key Xzanthurus provided, "M02cnQ51Ji97vwT4", paste that into the "key" input area on the site. Press "decrypt".
6. Once decrypted, download that as a binary file.
7. Change the extension to ".jpg" instead of ".dat".
There's your picture! (assuming you did everything correctly lol).

EDIT: For more information on getting the actual key: click here.4So I've went into the /data/data/com.snapchat.android/ folder, and it is only about 200KB, so the image/video files can't be stored there.
I also noticed if you have a new message, and you close and open the app, it will have to redownload it. So it seems that snapchat is storing the images in the RAM.
So I dumped the ram of my snapchat PID, using this method. I had to download a compiled gdb binary.
I then used photoRec to scan all the *.dump files [I concatenated them all first, the file was about 100MB]. For filesystem I said "Other."
All I got was one txt file. It seemed to be xml, and contained a lot of usernames of my friends, but that's all.

Snapchat save picture under /data/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_image_snaps. You then have to copy and paste the file out of the folder, and rename the file extension from .jpgnomedia to .jpg
I can not find where the videos are stored. That's how I found this thread.3If you can't find the video folder, it's because it deletes it and the videos when they are not loaded. They are stored under /data/media/Android/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_video_snaps/ in mp4 format with a .nomedia file extension. As soon as you navigate away from the app, they are deleted, so I set up a tasker gesture to allow me to copy them while they are loaded.
As people said before, the images are stored in /data/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_image_snaps/ with the jpg.nomedia extension. If that folder doesn't exist, try making sure you've received and loaded a snapchat first. The images seem to stay until they're viewed.2
I have not had time to check this location, however I have sort of discovered a workaround. [HTC Rezound CM10.1]
Ideally you should have a wifi toggle in the statusbar.
Open snapchat and then click on your snaps, after it loads the images [It will say "Loading image..", then "Tap to view"], turn off WiFi. Then you can view the snapchats [pic or video], and before enabling wifi, wipe Snapchat's data.
This way you can screenshot while offline and they will not know.
Alternatively you can use TitaniumBackup. Backup app while logged in, after viewing snapchat offline, restore data from backup so you do not constantly have to login.
