[Discussion] WW (International) Rom Vs. CN (Chinese Tencent Games) Rom

I am not sure why people keep claiming that OTA does not work after converting. I have converted my Tencent version to WW and I get OTA updates without any problems. Anyways, I have another problem. The WW version keeps killing apps when I close them. Thus, nothing stays in RAM. I did not have that problem on the CN ROM. I looked through all the battery settings and can't find any obvious reason to this. I have even manually put some apps to be "allowed in background", but they still close. Any ideas?

UPDATE: It seems like the phone kills apps if I launch them again from the home-screen! But if I use the multi-tasker, they are still running. That is such a weird behaviour! Why would the phone think I want to re-start a running app just because I tap on the icon on the home screen instead of using the task-switcher?? The CN ROM does not behave this way, nor any other phone I have owned. Can someone else confirm this?

I got my phone today in the UK. Its the International version with 12GB and 512GB storage. It comes with the WW software. Does anyone know why there is nothing OTA but there is a ROM on Asus website to upgrade? Mine came with a 5th of June 2019 patch.

Not hijacking this thread but I have some concerns, please. Does someone help me?

1- Any downsides of getting the chinese version and keeping it that way to keep getting OTAs?
2- Will I be able to flash google services and apps on the chinese version?
3- Is it rootable and unrootable on chinese rom?
If so, will we still be able to receive OTAs when rooted?
4- Is there's any way to have call recording without root on the chinese version? (I mean built-in support like xiaomi phones for example)?
5- Is the RAM management really as bad as I've heard? (check this review at 6:10). I mean I want to have full use of the full use of those 8GB ram.
6- Is there any way to flash a global rom and keep getting OTAs? What about call recording? Or additional other features?

Thank guys.

1. I am on the CN rom and there are no downsides from my experience.
2. Yes you will. No issues just install Google play store and you are all done.
3. It's rootable. Regarding OTA; you will stop getting them the moment you unlock the bootloader and root. So unlock+root= -OTA
4. Call recording comes inbuilt. No need to install third party recording apps.
5. Ram management seems to me normal, you simply need to know how to operate the device which will take some time to know the quirks of it.
6.You can flash the global rom but you will have to flash updates manually by placing the update file in the root of the device every time there is an update.

I was on global WW rom it’s great but not working very well with Tencent version always have problems start with no OTA ... now I go back to CN rom and I just disabled all Chinese app and make it totally English , there’s some deferent between WW rom and CN rom like armory app not like WW rom and I installed asus weather the font of number not like rog numbers on original rom on widget all other is working great on CN rom with no problems at all .

Guys does the ww rom has a better temperature control? Because many people on my country's forum reported that the temperature on ww is much better when playing games. And also does everyone on ww rom experience lag that can be solved through reboot? Thanks.
Using CN ROM, my phone gets throttle (frame drop) when temperature reach 47 degree C while playing PUBG (Max Setting) and live stream using Omlet Arcade with the Active Cooling Fan attached. Armoury Crate for CN, doesnt have the option for temperature control.

I'm anticipating my phone by end of month and am still on the fence about CN w/OTA or WW w/ manual updates.

Does anyone want to share their reason for switching to WW or vice versa?

I have the tencent version and flashed the global ROM, flashed fingerprint ect to WW and I get OTA updates, it's exactly like buying the global version but for less money. The WW firmware is way better than the CN in my opinion, no Chinese charging jargan and a few more features for gaming. There was some lag on the WW version but the latest update fixed that.

Let's Discuss the Pros and Cons
Feel free to share your input, opinion...

CN - Chinese - Tencent Games Edition

+ Slightly Faster across the system
+ No Facebook Bloat preloaded
+ Minimal Google Bloat
+ No preloaded YouTube - Easier to install YouTube Vanced
+ WiFi is stronger (Detects more networks around you than any other device)
+ Hidden extra ROG Theme
+ Faster OTA (From ROG I History)

- Many apps still have Chinese Fonts and Content
- Dual WiFi gets disabled after reboot
- Chinese Country Name in Contacts App
- Tencent Bloatware in System

WW - International - Republic of Games Edition

+ Everything is in English
+ Gamer Profiles have more function in Armoury Crate
+ Classic Theme option at first boot which allows to select a stock-like Theme
+ More LTE bands supported compared to CN Version

- No Dual WiFi Feature
- Themes are not working
- Minor lag across the system
- Facebook Bloatware in System
- Mobile Manager App shortcut is not available on the launcher.

Anything else?
gamegenie on the CN has the refreshrate button
while the WW has the live button where u can stream to youtube or twitch straight from ur phone

xmode on the WW has a slider for touch sensitivity and steadiness whilst not available on the CN rom
