So I guess my phone's back glass became worse over time. I didn't do anything special with it, just used the phone. I don't think it's waterproof anymore at this stage. I also believe that the lifted back glass extends almost up to the power button and also halfway to the right corner of the device on the upper back side!

Have a look at the photos. The first three are magnified, the fourth one is the original size to get an overview about the issue.

I'm going to post this also on the Sony support thread (http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperi...-plates-backs-coming-loose/td-p/346370/page/3) and since they allow photos now, I'll see if I can attach some "eye candy" to my posting there!
I think mine is lifted more than yours lol. I honestly forget it's like this.

so did you have a water damage with it or are afraid of water now? Can you show as photos of how your phone looks like?
I did get water damage and don't dunk it anymore. My notification light had stopped working. It halfway works now because comes on when charging but not for texts and stuff during day. I have 2 of my watermark things red even though flaps were closed. I don't own a camera that can take photos so nice and up close like you have. I haven't bought a camera in 7 years. I just stopped letting it bug me about the lift. Sometimes I look at it press in etc. But not like it helps me. Phone is still working for my daily use perfectly fine besides no underwater pictures anymore.
When I tried to ask sony about it a month ago or two they just said they don't fix anything with water damage because that leads to tons of problems so no point to send it in. They just wouldn't listen that it went in though glass being lifted. I didn't feel like messing with them anymore and taking chance of having no phone for a month and all they do is send me my same one back.

Can this thread be made sticky ? as this is the most important issue for the device and will help people know about it.

this is actually a great idea! It would definitely benefit many people. I would also suggest to include a hint about the survey which is meant to gather data about the issue. Maybe in the thread title or the first post?

yes, as the issue is confirmed, and many users have lost their devices, it would bring awareness to all who own the device, and caution them.. may be we should contact the forum mod here to help in making this sticky. and also yes, the existing survey should be linked in the thread.. one more column you can add in the survey is the Images column, where pple can put the url to the image of their device..

you would actually have to contact and talk to forum member "Rekoil" because he created the survey and is the only one who can add columns, I only have the link to it it in my signature :)

Gosh, why didn't anybody think about adding a picture of each users device (propably only of those who are affected) before? This would have been very helpful and interesting. I fear, it might be too late now because hundreds of people have already completed the survey.

I'm going to write to rekoil now and possibly the forum mod if I can.

so I have written to one of the forum moderators about what you suggested and to the user "rekoil" who created the survey and asked him if he could include a question in his survey which enables people to post a link to a photo of their XZ. Additionally, I've written to the creator of this thread and asked him, if he could include the survey in the thread title or link to it in his first post.

Let's wait and see if and what happens!

Do Sony now officially cover this under warranty. When I spoke to them 1 month ago they claimed it was not an issue they were aware of and therefore could not guarantee it would be covered until they had inspected the handset which would mean a charge if they deemed it not covered.

I still have my Z with this issue and did not want to send it in until there is a guarantee.

No wonder why Apple products are so popular. Sony needs to learn from Apple when it comes to customer service.

How they could be unaware of the issue despite all the media reports is a joke.

Well, a sealed phone, needs some spot to drain the inside heat, where is that "spot"?. if there isn't a spot, then the phone release the heating from anywhere, like the back plate?.

Here in my country, the telco companyes didn't comercialized Xperia Z, so I don't know where to ask for repairs.

I am still without my phone.

I have now been without my phone since 07/08/2013!

I have emailed them several times and keep getting the same generic answers like:

"I can confirm that this has been chased"
"I can confirm that your phone is with a technician"

Not happy!

Next week I have some free time and I intend to go with the phone to Sony Service and ask them what they are going to do about it. I don't think I will ever put my phone into water, even If they do something to repair the backplate problem.

I just went to Sony a few days ago. First of all, my phone is an export set, no warranty whatsoever. I went there knowing that I must pay a sum to get my phone sealed again. It costs $160 to reseal my phone! -.- They gave some bull**** excuse saying that other parts will be affected by resealing but ive seen the teardown video and I don't see anything that can be affected just by replacing the seal thing. Should I just put my phone in a 3rd party repair shop?

I've been having this problem, too. This seems to be a problem with the Firmware though, because they work in Service Tests -> LED/Illumination.

However, I've been watching my back plate for weeks now, and even though the phone got ridiculously hot (with CPU temperatures up to 70°C and the spot over it barely touchable for more than a few seconds without burning your fingers) at some times my back plate shows no signs of lifting off, water resistance isn't affected either.

in what week was your phone made and did you have the latest 4.2.2. firmware from the beginning?
