Exactly. These phones are NOT cheap. The one thing I love about Sony is their product design. That is the only reason I buy these phones. The waterproofing is a huge plus though but obviously one that we can't enjoy.

People are like "His phone is waterproof! You can dunk the phone in water and it'll work" I'm like haha yeah...

I've just left it as it is. But it really frustrates me to see that it's not sitting flush

@theprince1991 Yeah, I'm thinking the same. I'm shaking inside and fear if someboy might ask me to show if my phone is really waterproof. I'd love to do so, but I'm scared. When I then say: "Well, usually, but I guess not this one..." They'll laugh at me.

So are you staying away from water and rain with your phone as much as possible or do you just use it normally and if it breaks, it's broken and you hope that Sony fixes it under warranty?

My phone was not working fine due to a possible water damage, so I sent it to the repair centre, in Paris. I got it yesterday repaired after waiting 3 weeks and guess what..the back panel is not glued properly so is not water resistant any-more!!! Not even them can glue it correctly.

Sony after-sales service sucks! and Xperia Z is not as water-resistant as we were told

I don't get what they did all the time if they didn't fix it? Did they have the phone just waiting there for three weeks?

Are you going to send it back?

Yes, they fixed the initial issue that I think was due to a faulty flap and water damage. But when they closed it after the fix they didn't glued it well! It's very noticeable since if you make pressure you can feel some air coming from inside form the border. Specially if you make it slightly wet, you would see bubbles.

I will complain about the service and I am not sure about send it again soon, I cant afford 3 weeks without phone right now, they don't give a substitution phone. If Sony was Apple I would have been given a new phone the same day I went to the shop!

I had mine repaired twice, it's now coming loose again... I've had it. Gonna give the Xperia Z1 a chance, if it doesn't hold up I doubt I'll ever get a Sony again. Luckily according to EU law, after one faulty device and two crappy repairs/replacements, I can cancel the purchase for a full refund (I actually have the right to ask for interest on my money, but I'm not gonna be difficult :p).

There's a higher chance of me waking up in bed with 3 hot girls than Sony honouring their warranty. I'm not terrified... I would use the phone when it's raining because a little bit of rain shouldn't damage it but I'm not going to go in the pool with my phone anymore, or dunk it in a glass of water to showcase it's waterproof "capabilities". I'll update with what happens in my case.

I've just talked to amazon.de about the issue. While they agreed, that it is indeed a problem, they absolutely refused to send me a new device as an exchange, no matter what I told them!!

I even told them, that, according to EU law, I can choose between sending it in for a repair OR they sent me a new replacement unit. Of course I wanted the second option and it is my right to have it like I choose to. Still, they refused it.

Best of all: If I should decide to send it in, they would repair it in "our own repair center, this phone has to be repaired here, there is no other option!". But, their "own repair center" is the official and only Sony repair center in Germany!

So I could sent it in by Sony warranty, but I wanted it to do via amazon.

I'm so disappointed right now...I've been a loyal amazon customer for at least 13 years and this is how they treat their customers? They simply refuse what the law says...

I don't know what to do now.

Should I talk to amazon again? Maybe request to talk to this customer service guy's manager or supervisor?!

---

BIG Edit: I've filled out their customer support form and was obviously disappointed and selected that another employer should call me.

That guy called me and he suddendly offered to me, that he can refund to me the WHOLE PRICE I've paid back in April! I bought it for 518€ (including shipping) and I would get that money back. All I have to do is sent back my device to amazon and then they'll refund the money to my account!

Once I have my money back, or even before if I choose not to wait, I can then order a brand new XZ from amazon (or somewhere else if I like) and receive full 2 years of warranty again!

Best of all: I'll get 518€ back and a brand new XZ at amazon costs only 450€ right now -> new device, without this fault + 70€ extra cash!!!

Guys, what should I do now? Go this route and order a new XZ and hope that it'll be fine without the issue OR wait until the Xperia Z1 is available, which should be at the end of this month and is currently listed for 611€?!!!

Or God beware, order a Samsung S4 active/Galaxy S4?!

I guess, once it's released, the price will go down even further...but even as of now, it'll cost me a mere 93€ to upgrade to a new Z1 (611€-518€).

What would you do? Or is the answer obvious?

Btw, the amazon guy said, I don't have to send it back right now, I can wait 30 days...

How sure are you that the new z does not have the issue?

If I could get money back, I'd rather give the Z1 a shot.

This phones design is crap.

basically after prolonged use and short charges the battery expands, happened to 2 of my devices. Once the battery expands, it slowly opens up the xperia, this causes the back to come loose near the bottom.

Another cause is Alcohol spills on the phone (some silly people have dropped vodka or wine on it) .

Then if you leave your Xperia in direct sunlight in warmer countries, the heat will soften the adhesive and repeated exposure will wear the adhesive and it will come loose.

The adhesive is a poor quality Chinese made tape. If yours has come loose, DO NOT TRY TO RE-HEAT IT AND STICK IT. If you want to use the same gasket, carefully wipe (do not rub the adhesive, the glue will come right off) the adhesive with "cellulose thinner" let it dry (few seconds) and then stick it back on, otherwise best option is to replace it.

Ive had the battery issue with 2 devices so I had to replace the battery and rear adhesive. So I know the problems.

Hope this helps.

I'm trying to prevent this from happening to my more than a month old Xperia Z by not putting on a protective case so the heat won't be trapped hopefully to prolong battery and the device itself from heat degradation. I also don't put the phone in my pocket right after use as usually when I surf using mobile data, it tends to get warm especially the part where the CPU is.

It's good to find out that the design of the Xperia Z has this tendency. This discussion helped me a lot in taking care of my Xperia Z as I'm planning to use it for a long time.

My xperia Z also suffered loose top left corner of back panel. It is not a very big deal but i'll fix it one day. Thanks for all solution from this topic.

By the way, I use C6603 in USA (bought from Singapore) . So i should buy the glue and fix it my self instead of send to Sony ?
