I know for a fact that my rear glass has lifted, when i removed the shatterproof film i could see inside the phone, but i think waterproof is a gimmick anyway, whoever thought of taking the phone in the bath anyway

I think my problem was permanently solved back in december when I have replaced the glue , and lowered the NFC spring. It's been 5 months and the back panel is still there, not lifting an inch, an I've put my phone in some minor water tests, and no problems. So if Sony doesnt fix you problem ( wich was my case ) go to an particular service to fix the problem.

PLS guys link me a glue type from e-bay which is 100% safe from lifiting again! :highfive:
The XZ is such a well packaged 5" 1080p phone thats waterproof and narrow profile, hence I don't mind tolerating its negatives. Z1C is nice narrow but will miss 5". Z1 is way too clumsy/heavy.

My 1st model 13W08 had usual lifting of back glass, leading to numerous water entry but survived. So I removed the rear and its foam seal. I then coated both sides with Dunlop (or Continental) Contact Adhesive glue. Its called CA glue and its rubbery and flexible in nature. My phone was then like a submarine hatch which lasted for about 8 months. After that, the CA glue seals gave way owing to tight jeans and flex. This time water entry rendered phone unusable permanently.

I now have my 2nd unit of XZ (since I already have 2 units of docking charger DK26). Its 14W08 seems sealed tighter than earlier models.
But I'm 100% sure it will give way again soon, owing to heat buildup coupled with very tight jeans pocket.
I thought of SuperGlue but you need to be real fast and accurate. It might not be seal to waterproof as it won't fill small gaps.
This time I shall use Araldite 90 minute Epoxy 2 part glue (strongest ever) to permanently seal the phone.
Further repairs is not an issue for me. If it breaks, its now only USD300 to get another.

Hope my comments can help. Do feedback if you can.

I want to buy XZ with 13w09. Is it likely to lift the glass too?
Newer dates seem stronger bonded.
But there is still flex and heat buildup, expect all (ALL) XZ's to eventually have rear glass ungluing.
And as many know, water damage can be irreparable. So one needs to take pre-emptive measures, instead of wait till damaged.

My current XZ 14W08 still seems strong, but in a few months it will also unglue itself. Will Araldite it shut soon.

Lucky, I chanced upon this chat.

My XZ has been with me for more than 1 year...

This seems dangerous.

I do notice XZ tends to warm up fast and easy...

I am using ExistenZ ROM now and I lower the CPU max clock speed to prevent heat build up inside the device...

I posted here last time that my Xperia Z of 4 months was still ok but now I tested it to take photos in a swimming pool (3 to 6 inches deep and not more than 10 secs long per shot) and now is water damaged. I don't think I have the back panel issue but it weird because the water damage started on the SD card port then the 2 camera lens blurred after a few hours all strips turned pink except for the headphone jack.

Its not difficult to test for water seepage. Try closing all your tabs except one, blow lightly into it and feel for hissing and feel for air coming out of any rogue seams.

OverTheEdge-I think its still more likely back panel, unless your freq moving the numerous covers has rendered them compromised. Looks like you need dry out phone and hope for recovery.

Back Panel-I'm convinced any original seal will eventually break open. 1) heat buildup will melt glue, 2) flex in tight pockets actually move that foam seal 3) liquid exposure will eat the glue of seals.

External Speaker-I also can see that frequent washing with soap etc will clog up the lower speaker holes, rendering sound very weak. There is a hollow waterproof channel inside grill, water enters fully into it when wet, eventually it will clog or speaker will weaken.

All in all, its not a hardy waterproof phone. If it does not get flooded, the speaker will weaken to unusable. I have stopped washing it or any deliberate wetting. Hence, the waterproofing only comes in for emergency purposes.

Any comments welcomed

I'm not really sure about the back panel since the headphone jack strip is still white until now. But I think I have a better chance having the phone repaired for free if it is indeed because of the back panel. The most frequent flap I've used to open is the USB port and it's only because to update my phone and transfer some data, I could say I've opened it like 30 times in 10 months. I have the charging dock and bluetooth headset to avoid opening the flaps.
