Display Ghosting

Mine has it and today I went to a Xiaomi shop where they had several models in exposition. The Mi10T they had did have ghosting but much less than my Mi 10T pro. However I was surprised when I tested the Mi10T Pro. With the same settings as mine there was almost no ghosting at all. It looked and behaved like the Mi 10 they had next to it. And also I realized that mine has a yellow tint that the one in the shop did not have. It's clear that there are some units with a screen problem and mine is one of them so I asked for a reimbursement and now I don't know if I may risk it again with another unit or if I should go for the OnePlus 8T.

Display lottery, hate that.

I was to import mine (overseas), so if I get unlucky with the display, I would have to live with that.
The problem, the display is the part of the phone where I'm more picky, so unless I can check one in person to search for display problems I'll avoid buying one.

Mine does not have a yellow tint and ghosting is minimal, so I guess I'm the lucky one.

Stupid question, is reading mode turn on your device?

I checked that all screen options were the same in both devices. I even turned on automatic screen brightness in the shop's one to compare to mine.
It's not that you look at the screen and notice anything really wrong per se. It's just a very noticeable "ClearType" effect on the letters when they are scrolling or moving because of a change of view. As if the letters got thinner whole moving and the color fringing or the anti aliasing gets out of the letter for a few pixels and then it goes back to normal when it stops.
I thought it was something normal due to the LCD nature of the screen and the 144Hz refresh rate until I went to the shop and I looked for the same things in the exposition unit. If you look for this effect you will find it there just not so noticeable as in mine. And also I noticed the difference in color even using the same settings.

Yes, I notice ghosting on my device, but I don't mind it, I'm not expecting a phone with an IPS panel to not have ghosting. Even top monitors with IPS panels have ghosting.

Luckily I don't have an issue with color or yellow tint.

Same on my unit... Though it was just a cheap IPS but apparently I got a faulty unit. Great!

And the only reason why I bought this was because I was fed up with getting a bad oled panel (green tint, black crush).

Eu unit...
I have a global unit. When I scroll, the text changes colour very slightly, from yellow to white, but there is no loss of anti-aliasing. I do notice slight ghosting of the letters (looks like smeared paint trails) when scrolling slowly, but its very slight and most of my IPS phones show this kind of behaviour.

Scroll down to the 5th image on this wiki (the clear brown fox example). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clear...spatial anti-aliasing,fit into the pixel grid.

Does this describe your situation?

Wait, so you are speaking about black text on white background? Yes, it does slightly change color like on the Wikipedia picture. What bothers me more however is white text on gray background (like in youtube). Smearing is quite visible when scrolling there.

I know IPS displays have higher gtg response times, but this still seems quite disappointing for a high end panel. I've compared it to an iPhone 8 at 60 Hz which has less ghosting.

I have dark mode on. I don't have any of the anti-aliasing effects. Only the slight smearing I mentioned before which happens on both dark/light mode.
As for the colour change of the text in dark mode, it's so slight I can only notice it in a dark room on low brightness at night.

I don't really have color change either. It is just the white background "smearing" into the text during scrolling which makes it look slightly grayish. But it does look similar to what you posted.
Smearing in dark mode is pretty apparent on the other hand.
It is hard to compare our experience just from chat, as the perception of this issue is probably highly subjective.

It turns out my screen was right and it didn't have any problem. I was suffering this issue
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75939435&postcount=6

After applying the commands in the post and checking again with the unit at the shop, both screens are now at the same color tone and the scrolling effect is much more subtle.

Even if I didn't have this issue I have disabled night_display.
Out of curiosity, what were the settings on your phone?

Settings on my phone were:
night_display_activated=0
night_display_auto_mode=2

I set auto_mode to 0 also.

I didn't check the values before but looking at the documentation for this setting I found this:

Code:
/**
  * Auto mode value to prevent Night display from being automatically activated. It can still
  * be activated manually via {@link #setActivated(boolean)}.
  * * @see #setAutoMode(int)
  */
  public static final int AUTO_MODE_DISABLED = 0;

/**
  * Auto mode value to automatically activate Night display at a specific start and end time.
  * * @see #setAutoMode(int)
  * @see #setCustomStartTime(LocalTime)
  * @see #setCustomEndTime(LocalTime)
  */
public static final int AUTO_MODE_CUSTOM = 1;

/**
  * Auto mode value to automatically activate Night display from sunset to sunrise.
  * * @see #setAutoMode(int)
  */
public static final int AUTO_MODE_TWILIGHT = 2;
I guess that I had it in 2 before because it was way more visible at noon than in the morning.

Anyway, now I've found that in settings for reading mode you can adjust it to all three options (disabled, only at twilight and at certain hours). I could swear that it wasn't there when I had the problem or that I didn't see it which is strange.
Also when I had it set I couldn't turn it off in the MIUI settings. I selected and unselected reading mode and it didn't do anything. Only through ADB I was able to disable it.
