Hy, Jimsey, where you get your micro usb jack ?

It's from one of the adapters which came with a powermat powercube, ( i used the powermat kit to do wireless charging mods on my S2, S3 and notes 1 and 2)
anyway the powercube comes with about 6 adapters for different phones, so I disassembled one of the unused adapters and soldered the female micro usb to the charger pins for the XZ dock.

if you don't have a powercube ( they are cheap as chips on Amazon), there are also loads of universal type phone chargers which come with several adapters for different phones, and these usually have either a micro or mini female usb to attach the different adapters to the charger, my local petrol station has one on offer at the moment for £2.99, or most supermarkets stock them.

alternately you can buy female micro or mini usb connectors on ebay, or buy a micro usb extension cable and cut the male plug off and attach the pogo pins to the wires leaving a neat micro usb solution

While all Sony charger are out-of-stock (my pre-order is still pending for delivery, no shipment info. could be commited by Sony Hong Kong), here's my version of DIY charger alone with some step by step guide. (Raw material is written in Chinese)

Altogether I've make up a Note2 stand for my beloved girlfriend.

Folk, enjoy!

Modified contacts and magnetic attachement.

Hi all.

There are alot of good ideas out there and I would like to share mine with you.
I was looking for a way to have magnetic attatchment of the charging cable to the phone as jimsey did in post #25.
However I wanted the actual contact to be magnetic.

This is how i did it.

Order magnets from supermagnete or somewear else, the price was just 5 EUR for 20 magnets.
Article: Q-05-04-01-G
Description: Block magnet 5 x 4 x 1 mm, ndFeB, N50, gold-plated

Order conductive silver glue price is similar to magnets.

Modify a microusb cable, attach magnets and solder the correct cable to them (polarity of the magnets is important, you dont want them to stick to the wrong contact on the phone).

Get to work!!!

"youtu.be/UUDwCWDgCSM" Video of the finished result.

Pictures of the project.

What have you done the XZ connectors? Have you removed the original plastic and placed some magnets there?

The charging dock works just fine.

The small black plastic bit in the down left corner in the first picture is the part covering the connectors. Just lift it up with a needle and use a sharp blade to cut it. Then attach the magnets with the silver glue.

Has anybody heated the back cover, removed it and retro-fitted a QI wireless receiver yet?

I've had a quick look at a couple of disassembly vids and a QI receiver should fit. I just have no idea if it'd work electrically if I hook it straight up to the battery.

Anybody?

I think I'm going to wait for this sony one to be released, we cant buy it yet in the uk:

I think this is probably going to be neater than trying to use a coil from a nexus 4 or similar.

Presumably you'd attach the coil to the charger pins from the inside, I definitely wouldn't go straight to the battery as although it might some overcharge protection built into the battery, the charger pins and usb will be the safest option.

;)

Made mine today, some MDF, and some spring loaded pogo pins U got off eBay to make a pogo cable for my N10.

Strangely,i thought the pogo pins were solid metal until I pressed one into the wood today and heard it spring back, really pleased to find that out cause my XZ just drops onto the dock easily.

I'm planning to cover it in some sort of vinyl to neaten it up but I needed a dock ASAP because of the stupid port cover.

Images attached, hopefully Tapatalk hasn't ruined them.

Hi, I finally made one charging dock for me. I use cardboard to build a copy of the original and use the pins from a wireless phone charging dock. My wife are going to paint it. ;)

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of building a couple of these docks for myself. However, i would like to build something modular, with a female micro-USB plug connected to the pins, and using Sony stock chargers.

My problem is that female micro-USB plugs are a pain in the rear to find/get in my country so i'm wondering if i could use a regular USB 2.0 female connector cabled to the pins as part of the dock and a regular USB male - male cable to connect the Sony stock charger to the dock.

I have very little knowledge in electronics but i figure as long as the charger outputs the correct voltage/amps the cables are just conductors and should work fine, regardless of connector types.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks in advance

Yep, that's absolutely possible, I used a miniUSB socket on mine, cause I have a bunch on my electronics cabinet, and because I have a ton of those USB mini cables that are no longer used except for PS3 controllers.

As long as you get the positive and negative the correct way around, and try not to make the cable _too_ long (as impedance will cause loss in power) then you should be fine.

You're right about impedance. The shortest USB male/male i could find are 1.5m. If that's too long i could always shorten them manually :)

Of course I'm right, I'm an Engineer  lol

By all means shorten them, just make sure you have some shrink wrap handy, nothing worse than messy cable work :p

What did you connect and how? And how is it not working? Does it not charge through the pins, or does it not charge at all even through the microUSB?
