Hmmm I like my defender. It's the best by far. But thanks for the heads up.. i might try to add some padding around a corner on the inside of my case if I can find any.
Indeed. I'm thinking perhaps add a few parts sided foam adhesive pads on the corners of the Note 8 before putting it inside the Defender case.I have the defender case as well and I totally agree with the helmet analogy. I've had defender cases in the past but never really had a problem though. But I think the difference this time for the note 8 is there are too much glass on this phone and the curve glass is weaker than the normal phones. The bezel of normal phones would normally add protection from drops. I also notice that on my note 8 defender with my phone in it, it slides around inside the case very slightly. Nothing big but it's not a snug fit. Maybe if it fits more snug it may help prevent the damage.
Sorry to see your note 8 damage.

Please let us know how it goes and your results, might result to using the same technique.Indeed. I'm thinking perhaps add a few parts sided foam adhesive pads on the corners of the Note 8 before putting it inside the Defender case.
Last defender case I owned was for the iPhone 4s , similar situation was encased from new. When I removed it to sell it all the edges of the brushed frame were scratched where the inside hard plastic was in contact with the phone.I'm wondering if anyone elses note 8 is getting scratched to hell and back by the case. The sides one my black note 8 have small scratches everywhere. There are also tons of scratched where he plastic rests on the top and bottom bezel. It's never been in another case and went in the OtterBox while restoring all my data. I've had defenders on my last 5 phones and this is the only phone that I've had this issue with. Probably due to the super gloss metal edge finish and it's not as snug as a fit as I think that have been in the past.

I did have an issue similar on the Note 3 but my Note 4 and 5 were flawless when I took them out. I'm beyond upset that this is the way it is bc there is no way OtterBox will rectify the situation. It's not even the fact that a phone I paid 930 for is scratched it's the fact that I like my devices to look new when I sell them and was really debating selling my Note 8 and switching to the Pixel 2 XL even though I use my spen for work religiously.Last defender case I owned was for the iPhone 4s , similar situation was encased from new. Since that time I've never used cases that were were made with hard inner plastic frames.

Yeah, I understand and feel the same way myself.I did have an issue similar on the Note 3 but my Note 4 and 5 were flawless when I took them out. Do you recall ever dropping your device? I have been checking mine every couple weeks because I'm paranoid now and still looks perfect. I also have a Dbrand skin installed on the back, wonder if that will help if the case is infact to blame for the cracked glass.Just like others have stated you couldn't even tell there was damage until you removed the case so a screen protector would not have helped.
I dropped it once. Anyone that says "their screen cracked on its own" is liar. Most people don't understand how microfissures can weaken glass without showing any signs. Then one day it falls from the couch to the carpeted floor and shatters.Do you recall ever dropping your device? Is this your first Defender case? I've always had them on my phones and the design has always been the same. Outer shell is rubber, inner is hard plastic. Did you have the holster clipped in when the phone dropped? I always have the phone in the clip for another layer of drop protection.I dropped it once. I just think the otterbox defender for this phone was not engineered well enough.
On my note 4 commuter it was soft rubber against the phone with the note 8 defender it's hard plastic against the phones glass.
Second defender case. Just comparing to the commuter I came from that protected better. Is this your first Defender case? I've always had them on my phones and the design has always been the same. Good points raised and probably a fair assumption I'd say.I don't think it's because of the design of the Defender case. I've noticed with a lot of the popular cases people's phones are still having the corners shattered when dropped a certain way. I think it's the way the phone is designed.
I have the Caseology Legion and people are having the same corners shatter when dropped based on Amazon reviews.
Personally I hated the curved screen and all class body. I'd rather have a flat screen and plastic back. Besides most sane people use cases on these phones so what is the point of making the back glass if you put a gigantic case on it?
That's the hard part though. guarding the corners and sides with the curved screen.Good points raised and probably a fair assumption I'd say.
Im thinking if perhaps the cases had thicker corners or edges with a more absorbing rubber materials it might help.
