It's really difficult because this update fixed countless issues I was having with lag, faster fingerprint, etc. However, I really loved root.... So sad :crying:
I'm going to keep root for now, hopefully someone puts out a safe flashable update. I know this is stupid but I'm kinda pissed about the green battery icon again. I know why they did it and understand but its so ugly and doesnt jive. I hated it on JB and I hate it now.

Got my new safe N7. Sure enough, as soon as I inserted the SIM, it started to download the update. I caught it in time though. Disabled system update with Package Disabler Pro. I've still got this damned persistent notification on my settings App. Anyone know how to Clear this, and where the partially downloaded update is so i can kill it?

I had already knew about and disabled the update for my V1, so I made sure when the SIM card was put into my V2 that the update was paused immediately. And once I got home, disabled the updates via Package Disabler Pro. Not going to lose my chance to root.

Also, my V2 is much smoother and snappier, even without the new update. Very happy with V2 at the moment.

Do a factory reset without your Sim and WiFi, don't log into any of your accounts through set up wizard, pop Sim in, go to play store and quickly get package disabler, freeze both software updates. Then you'll be good.

Unfortunately, that didn't work. I popped my SIM in and immediately signed in to the Play Store, But by the Package Disabler Pro time installed and activated, the damn Update download had started. I paused it and disabled the Update Packages, but still left with the notification.

Found a workaround: Convert your Package Disabler Pro app from the Play Store into a sideloadable .apk

1. Go to Play Store and install Astro File Manager https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.metago.astro
2. Under the Tools tab, select App Manager. Find Package Disabler Pro. Backup.
3.There will now be a folder on your devices labeled "backups". Open the folder, open the "apps" folder within. You will see com.ospolicepackagedisablerpro.apk , copy this to your external SD Card.
4. Factory Reset (I know, it sucks) and remove your SIM card, but leave your SD card in.
5. Blow through Set Up wizard without signing in to Wi-Fi or any accounts.
6. Enable Unknown Sources in Lock Screen and Security Settings
7. Use the pre-installed Samsung File Manager to navigate to your SD Card where you put the .apk
8. Install, open, grant administrator, NOW sign in to Wi-Fi to activate the app. Still NO SIM CARD.
9. Once activated, search "update" and you'll see 2 entries. Disable both .
10. NOW pop in your SIM and sign in to your accounts. Profit.

I'm sure there are simpler ways, but this is what worked for me. Cheers!

Samsung really wants to lose their loyal customers. Idiots patched the root on new update and this is after the embarassing battery flaw. I skipped S7 edge due to locked bootloader, Note7 has the same issue but at least the root doesn't cause all those overheating and lagging issues like S7.

Now I am wondering if it is worth the trouble to switch to v2 Note7 hoping it has old rootable firmware and then HOPE that the genius devs here will find a method to root the new firmware.

Then Nougat will bring its own sets of rooting issues...

Really want to get international unlocked bootloader version but T-mobile's proprietary VOLTE and WI-Fi calling, rich texting doesn't work with that version....

Damnit! The phone started updating as soon as I got it. Didn't even think about it ruining the exploit. UGH!! I'm sure you've tried this but factory data reset doesn't wipe the update? Wonder if that'd get it working. @TEKHD thanks for all you do. I guess I'm waiting

Why is everyone sad about their devices forcing the download of this update??? I don't understand it because you would have to boot all the way into the setup, have data (WiFi) and your Sim Card installed... but all things considered, if you're planning to root the device, why boot up at all?!?!

When I got my replacement, my FIRST power on was to go STRAIGHT into Download mode. Why are any of you going through the trouble of booting up in the first place? When you unbox your phone, just follow Jovy's instructions and go STRAIGHT to download mode on your first power on. Worked for me just fine.

I just was thinking about root and it made me so sad that it's no longer an option of you did the update. I updated before I checked this... I'm just reminiscing of the good ole days

the update ran as soon as it connected to their wifi network to set up the phone. crap, can't root now.
Had a feeling this might happen, so never let new phone even boot. as soon as i opened the box, i went into dl mode and odined the sprint software. completed setup and now found that the phone will NEVER update. because it was modified illegally. I still have root.
