Yeah!!! My device is on the way to my home... hope that root can be achieved in quick.... 
+$50 for whoever can root and provide a way to restore the stock icons!I hope so too - that would be very nice
I'll pledge 50 dollars to the cause for root - Im not even all that concerned with unlocking the bootloader, I just want root so I can get my ps3 controller working with it, lol.
But its a gorgeous device and its IR functionality makes it hands down the best alternative to a Harmony remote you could ever have. This thing is a winner from Sony. Please devs make it a winner for us!

The ps3 controller is also one of the reasons I want root, that and to make custom widgets for the Ir remote!
so far, the only thing i could do with this device is ADB.. i can adb with it, execute commands, but i have no idea where to start.. i'm afraid to try the Gingerbread methods for root as i might brick it (although i can easily ship it back to Sony and have it fixed)... if some dev can point me where to start (fail safe).. i'm willing to try..
Is there even a "system.img" dump for this device? Is there recovery mode? Fastboot mode? Does it have a bootloader similar to the Xperia phones? An answer to any one of these could help in making a root. Also, I think there isn't many devs working on this because a device costs too much and devs are usually not loaded with cash. If only sony would give them away like they did with the Plays...
