quick question, does rooting void warranty?
and if so, if i unroot and flash the stock rom back... does it still void warranty??

No, it doesn't.

Technically it does, but if the bootloader is locked, you can unroot leaving absolutely no trace.

HTC don't seem to care about them being unlocked anyway.

This is the important part ... HTC doesn't care. I've sent my phone in twice while rooted and both times it has come back factory reset with the boot loader re-locked.
