DRM stands for digital rights management. It's used for distributing digital content for money. If you tell me why would anyone want to copyright their family pictures shot with a smartphone camera to sell it, I'll buy you a beer. :)

I dont have the source since I read it months before I bought the phone, as for the DRM maybe I got the term wrong but what I remember is that the phone uses a propriety software which gets deleted when unlocked....antways I'll take your word and go ahead and root....thanks

I heard that unlocking bootloader and rooting removes a DRM for the camera which affect its performance... Is it true?
That's true but only on Sony phones as far as I know. I haven't heard of any other manufacturer (OnePlus included) doing that. You can root without worries.
