Does the HTC U11 Oreo update make phone encryption a default setting?

I recently upgraded my HTC U11 (Asian) to Oreo via SDcard method using instructions from thread below:

After upgrade/full reset the phone always encrypts itself at start-up. Phone encryption can't be changed at Settings-Security-Encryption and credentials. Any suggestions on how to disable this?

Encryption is forced on all devices that ship with Marshmallow up.

You have to format your device in TWRP to remove.

Why would you want to remove it? if your phone is lost/stolen, the thief can simply plug your phone into a PC and take all your files.
