Does the OG Droid have a locked bootloader?

I seem to remember the Droid always being unlocked, is this true? Have someone saying it was locked and the root method unlocked the bootloader.

Never was locked. That was the big draw for the development community that allowed for a good kick start for apps and tweaks of all kinds on Android.
