Does the sensation support 5ghz wifi? It didnt see my 5ghz network for some reason.. strange if it wouldnt since the mt4g had it.
Well, not exactly.Damn this stinks. 5 is better range..
True but as long as you have good signal 5GHz has less inference as I understand it.Well, not exactly.
http://compnetworking.about.com/od/wirelessfaqs/f/5ghz-gear.htm
"The higher the frequency of a wireless signal, the shorter its range. Thus, 2.4 GHz networks cover a substantially larger range than 5 GHz wireless networks. In particular, the higher frequency wireless signals of 5 GHz networks do not penetrate solid objects nearly as well as do 2.4 GHz signals, limiting their reach inside homes."
Potential trade-offs either way you go, but bottom line the Sensation doesn't currently handle 5Ghz.True but as long as you have good signal 5GHz has less inference as I understand it.
Swyped from HTC Pyramid, using XDA Premium App.
Have you tried turning on wifi hotspot? Maybe it uses 2.4 for standard data and 5 for creating a hotspot? IDK, just throwing it out there.Sorry to bump this from the dead, but does anyone have any proof that it only has the 2.4 GHz band for WiFi or that it's a software issue?
It is not a software issue.Sorry to bump this from the dead, but does anyone have any proof that it only has the 2.4 GHz band for WiFi or that it's a software issue?
Are you sure you were seeing 5Ghz access points? I have yet to hear of any dual band device...I currently use stock rooted MT4G, but have started to enjoy the Virtuous Unity Glacier ROM that gives us Sensation's abilities. I have noticed that normally the Glacier finds 5ghz w/ no prob, but w/ Virtuous Unity it's gone. I suspect a missing device file in the ROM build, but don't know where to find what's missing, or how to re-integrate them. Any ideas? I have both the stock ROM for TM Glacier and the 1.27 Unity ROM.
Spec:
MT4G unlocked, rooted, and nand for reversion.
Factory Glacier and Virtuous Unity Glacier 1.27
The G2 and the MT4G only do b/g/n but they can both connect to 5GHz WiFi.It is not a software issue.
It simply does not have a 5GHz radio...
One hint is also that on the specs page you only have 802.11 b/g/n and not 802.11a which is 5GHz only...
Really? Where did you see that? I cannot believe they wouldn't put a dual band WiFi radio in this device. After checking, I've seen that MT4G is also 802.11a capable (not only b/g/n like our Sensation) which means it's a dual band device.
Sensation on the other hand is not.
