Does Your Moto X Ever Get Hot?

I'm thinking about getting a Moto X. I usually get a top-tier phone, but this one has really caught my eye.

I want a high-end device, but the "best" phones are all rather large. When I started looking at all the different "mini" versions, it turns out most of those phones are about the same as the Moto X. Nobody is really packaging their best phone with a smaller display; all the minis are pretty much 1.7GHz dual core units with 720-line displays. Compared to most of those the Moto X really fits my hand, and I like a lot of the features.

One thing I'm curious about is the operating temperature. My last three phones have all gotten pretty hot from time to time, but I read in a review that the Moto X draws a bit less current, and as a result it also runs a good bit cooler than some faster phones. This phone does seem to get a lot of life for a 2200mah battery.

Has anybody noticed any heat from this phone, or that it's particularly cool compared to other phones you've had? FWIW, I'd be using the Verizon version with 32GB.

Thanks in advance.

I must say the Moto X is the of the coolest higher end phone I've used. There is absolutely no issue with heat on mine, even with a few hours of video running.

Both Samsung and LG phones can quite hot for me. Naturally any phone will get hot with prolonged GPS use.

i mean it gets warm, but thats it. i wouldnt call it hot compared to my Gnex, which would literally be on the verge of burning my face off. only time my X gets warm is if im using it while its charging. other than that, no problems at all

I guess it all depends on what you mean by top tier. If by top tier you mean a phone that works great as a phone, feels good in your hand, has a nice screen for its size, no lag and stock android plus, with the plus being very useful extras like touchless controls, motorola assist and active display, then the Moto X is top-tier. If by top-tier you mean has the best specs on paper but has lag due to its ridiculous OEM skin, drops calls and can't hold a 4G LTE signal well in weak signal areas, then by all means get the top-tier GNote3. I had it and returned it and got 2 Moto X's instead.

Never gets hot even when I WiFi tether my computer to it. My GNex used to get boiling hot when I did that.

as a result it also runs a good bit cooler than some faster phones.
What do you mean by faster? The CPU clock speed? Because I tested it side-by-side with the GNote3 and the Moto X beat the GNote3 in every data speed test I ran and opened apps and loaded web pages noticeably faster than the GNote3.

I don't think so. My note3 consistently pulls faster data TMob vs TMob on speed test.

I am on Verizon. The Moto X and the GNote3 and even my GNex all do well in strong signal areas. Where the signal is weak, the Moto X outperforms them all.
Hmmm... Probably. Didn't get to test x at work on day off. I switched to T-Mobile. My note has been pulling faster on TMob vs x on atnt. Note is still pulling down faster at apartment. At work, that will probably be true, x pulling down faster on a weaker signal. My refill runs out today on my note and might be awhile before I get to test again.

I'm too facing that issue. but that doesn't impact the usage or performance of x. even many of the youtube users checked that it is heating up little but not as xperia z2

This morning i woke up and my x was at 125° or 52c not sure if I have an issue or not but it seems like the general opinion is that it runs cool.

To me it seems that the front and back of my TMo Developer Edition is too hot. Just got an app to meaure the temp and its 39C without any serious load (facebook or just web browsing).

Anyone else has measurements to compare?

My dev edition gets hot with Maps navigation such that Maps just dies. If I charge it when using navigation, Maps dies quickly. Else it lasts for a while longer before dying. My note 3 and note 4 can go on and on with navigation even being charged at the same time.
