Having downloaded twrp_x5max.img from needrom and used the adp method of installing the TWRP.img (https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-twrp/). I get the following error message. "writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: download for partition 'recovery' is not allowed".
So How do I get the TWRP img loaded into the Doogee X5Max (not pro) android with marshmallow?

I have tried using SP FlashTool and it says installed successfully, but I still get the default recovery program, after the dead robot with triangle and a exclamation mark inside, when booting into recovery using keys or adb command.

Is there another way of getting this image file loaded into the recovery partition?

I have followed all the set up steps in developers mode, so why cannot I use adb?
The trick with DooGee phones is this.

Read the instructions/get files on here

https://www.getdroidtips.com/root-install-twrp-doogee-x5-max/

and make sure you have the USB drivers installed but then follow below,

Do not have the phone plugged into the PC.

and extract the two files out of the TWRP zip into the Flashtool folder to make it easier to point to the MT6737M_Android_scatter.txt if that's the one your phone uses.

Start Flashtool and check it's got the scatter file chosen in the Scatter load file box and the bin file in the other box and then Click the download Arrow.

With the phone switched off remove the battery.

Plug the phone into the PC via the USB port.

Press and hold the power button on the phone. With luck Flashtool should quickly say it's completed/ok.

NOW! Do NOT reboot the normally.Put the Battery in and reboot to Recovery mode.If the phone starts normally you may have to go through the above again. If the phone is allowed to boot normally before you enter Recovery mode for the first time after flashing TWRP it can remove it.

If you successfully get to the TWRP screen then Choose to reboot but choose to switch the phone off just for good measure. Now boot normally and then shut the phone off and boot into recovery to see if TWRP has taken :)

Warning! If you get prompted to install the TWRP app say no.You don't need it and if you did install it and allowed it t update it messed up my phone and I had to restore a Nandroid backup!

Note:You can have TWRP installed and not root a phone and just use it to make a Nandroid backup.I do this on my DooGee X5 max pro using a stock rom.I was running Mokee custom rom which I loved but had to recently go back to a Stock rom as Google have changed their security and my Banking apps will not work on Custom roms any more :(

I tried using,"Exposed" software to Mask the custom rom but it didn't work. It's a shame as really liked Mokee. Luckily I found a clean Stock DooGee rom so I'm happy again :)
