This does have a use. Im say 4 hours from being at a charging point yet I know I have much less than that, 2 hours, and I NEED to use it. I can give up my amazing looking screen to make it usable for how long I need it.

This would have been nice last night when I was at the drive-in movies in a completely dark field and a "no lights" rule. I was swapping a few texts and even on the darkest setting, the screen was still too bright. I noticed someone in front of me using their phone and it was very annoying. I'm sure my huge screened N1 was a lot brighter than their tiny flip phone screen. It would also be easier on the night vision.

Anyone use F.lux for their PC? The shade actually makes it a lot easier on the eyes at night. I would use this purely for the yellowish taint one at night times. Thanks would be great if it is included in one of the more widespread roms or be available as an .apk.

file this thread under awful.
why not go greyscale instead of being forced into a duotone, acid freakout screen environment.

anyone who finds this battery saving technique cool needs to seriously get some professional help.

Those of you bashing this can piss off for all I care. Personally I would love to have this option of DRASTICALLY improved battery life in emergency situation (such as a long commute and forgot to charge the phone :p). I find it incredibly cool that we can exert such powerful control over our devices. Now, if this isn't for you then shush and go sit in the corner.

As for DDM123's reply to sprinkles, ouch. Destroyed.

My thoughts exactly...
But if the choice is no phone at all, or one with a red tint for two more hours, I'll take the red tint.

I don't really understand why people are having such a problem understanding why this could be useful. No-one is suggesting you use your phone in this way as the norm, but some of us are stranded away from chargers for long periods of time. If you end up finding out you're going to be stranded away for another 4 hours and you're already on 20% and need to use your phone a lot still, this could be useful.

I do not have a problem with this nor said this was useless, you're right it might actually save you some battery when you need it most, but I doubt it will save you that much when you're actually using the phone. Although our display takes up most of the battery, there are other factors that drains it as well. With 20% left your best bet is to not use the phone unless you need it, phone on idle takes up 1% per hour and your 20% will still go a long ways.

Not saying you guys are wrong to be looking forward to this Mod, what is useless to some might be useful to others. I just don't see myself sacrificing the look of my N 1 just for extra battery life that's all. :) If I'm that desperate for battery ill have an extra battery, a car charger and a wall charger handy.
