wrong downgrade path

third post in hc soff thread. do this then flash rom

Instructions Part 1

This thread is not for discussing general Honeycomb problems so don't post here if it's not related to running this procedure.

To go completely back to stock and S-ON, follow the instructions here. The instructions in the link will work for either Gingerbread or HoneyComb, make sure you use an RUU for your CID.

  • Important: Charge your Flyer fully before running this procedure ( see section: problems below)
  • If you are on Honeycomb and got there by following other honeycomb install methods this procedure is not for you.
  • You must have a revolutionary hboot to use this procedure.
  • You must download the gingerbread RUU for your device unless you are going to immediately install a custom ROM or restore a nandroid backup.

Note: There is no FULL version downgrade due to the number of localized versions that exist for the Flyer.
You must download the gingerbread RUU for your device unless you are going to immediately install a custom ROM.

After following the steps above, you should be on a gingerbread compatible base with revolutionary S-OFF and CWM, nothing more or less than that.

  • Procedure

    1. download the file that you require as follows:
Be warned this is a this is not a complet rom, if you try to boot from it you will just get the wite htc logo screen:
      Code:
                 MD5 Filename
      --------------------------------------------------------------
      3G-Wifi: 26ea9aa7cdde5c0008446c421c1ac1cc [URL="http://hyuh.net/files/flyer/downgrade/PG41IMG-3G.zip"]PG41IMG-3G.zip[/URL]
      Wifi only: e0094cbb3ce14630e1d7e7dcc4274dd8 [URL="http://hyuh.net/files/flyer/downgrade/PG41IMG-WIFI.zip"]PG41IMG-WIFI.zip[/URL]
    2. If you are running this procedure the flash WILL fail first time, you must flash twice
    3. Method1: Using fastboot:
      • Get fastboot and adb tool for windows here, get Windows fastboot drivers here
      • Get Fastboot and adb for linux here
      Code:
      fastboot erase cache
      fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip <name of zipfile>
[I][COLOR=Blue]Flashing will fail with Error 90 first time due to hboot change[/COLOR][/I]
fastboot flash zip <name of zipfile>
[I][COLOR=Blue]The on screen indicator on the phone will not reach fully to the right end of the progress bar, this is ok[/COLOR][/I]
      fastboot reboot
    4. Method 2: Using bootloader - NOTE I strongly recommend using method 1.
      1. Rename the downloaded file PG41IMG.zip
      2. Transfer the file to the root of your SD card
      3. Reboot to hboot, which will detect and install the update.
Note it will require two passes to complete the upgrade due to hboot change

scotty1223 for giving me the kick in the ass to get this done :) Thanks scotty!

Thank you! This did it!

To be honest, I wasn't sure which path to take. I knew I had not used the HTC Unlock, and I had upgraded using a leaked ROM, but beyond that I wasn't sure.

Many thanks to Globatron & mcord11758 for solving this!

yea your problem was that teh RUU could not over write the S Off Hboot so when you ran it all your parts were gb but your hboot was HC. Glad you got it worked out, and yes thank you to globatron for all of his hard work here

got EU

Can I get a volunteer who has:
  1. A US WIFI Flyer
  2. Has upgraded to HC
  3. Wants to go back to GB but is stuck
  4. Doesn't mind if the HC version is the WWE one ( eg. wants revolutionary S-OFF on GB)

Sorry, but have a EU typ...i have just downgrade my Flyer.... it was really a hardwork for a newbee like me. I started two times coz i got the wrong RUU and had million lucks that my Flyer wasn´t break.... just do it like Globatrons procedure. But remember download first the right RUU for your Flyer.

I (prematurely) upgraded to HC via the official OTA. I used this method to go back to GB and used Revolutionary to achieve S-OFF and flash a recovery. I had a little trouble finding a downloadable Brightstar RUU but once I did, everything was straight forward and worked flawlessly! Thanks, Globatron!

Could someone help me please, trying to downgrade from HC but it's seemingly impossible.

The drivers aren't loading on my laptop, so I cannot execute fastboot to find which RUU I need.

I am in the UK, my Flyer is Wifi only:

HBOOT-1.11.0011
Radio-3822.10.08.07_M

Does any of that information help you, or am I going to have to somehow get these drivers to install? I've tried on two separate laptops, so I can only assume i'm being retarded.

Can I use this method on my flyer p510e with hboot 1.11.0011 and S-ON ? I've unlocked it via HTC dev.. also I'm on official HC Rom.
I saw a post in which a guy following this post had bricked his device( maybe he had some wrong step) ..so I don't want to brick my device as its my elder's brother gadget! So its better to have some knowledge first.

u must have htc sync installed on ur computer (because it need htc driver), but before u connect ur device to computer, automatic sync must be off first....

If you followed the easy install guide then you want to follow this this post

Please see THIS THREAD before doing this procedure, you might be able to avoid using the HTC unlock.

WARNING: This procedure applies to flyers (not View) only and should be used only if you get the following message when trying to downgrade:

"Main Version is older! Update Fail! Press <POWER> to reboot"

If you upgraded to HoneyComb using the Official OTA perform these steps, otherwise skip to section "Downgrade" below
    1. Perform a HTC unlock using the HTC unlock website
    2. Download this recovery download MD5: bb366b025dcc454ffe8b21b8bf0c72d0
    3. Download superuser from here
    4. Copy the su zip file to the root of your external SD card.
    5. Boot the flyer to fastboot mode
    6. Flash recover
      Code:
      fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
    7. Reboot to recovery and install the su zip file.
    8. Reboot to android
    9. Proceed with the downgradre procedure below.

    Downgrade
    1. First download the RUU for your device from this thread.

If there is no RUU for your region/operator, download one of the unbranded ones and create a goldcard

If you don't know which RUU to use see post #2.

    2. Download misc_version_universal.zip and extract the misc_version file from it.

    3. If you don't have adb and fastboot on your PC
      • Get fastboot and adb tool for windows here

      • Get Fastboot and adb for linux here

    4. check the version number for your RUU
In my example I am using this RUU: RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_2.00.405.3_R_Radio_20.3501.30.08 9BU_3809.05.04.10_M_release_194964_signed.exe
The version is the part highlighted in red.

    5. Boot your flyer up to android if it's not already on, with usb debugging enabled and connect it to the PC.

    6. Run the following command:
      Code:
      adb push misc_version /data/local/misc_version
    7. Run the following commands:
      Code:
      adb shell
$ su (make sure your screen is unlocked so you see a toaster notification if it appears)
      # chmod 777 /data/local/misc_version
      # /data/local/misc_version -s [COLOR="Red"]2.00.405.3[/COLOR]

Note that the number in RED is the version number retrieved in step 4.
You will see a message about backing up and writing misc partition

    8. Reboot to fastboot:
      Code:
      adb reboot bootloader

      [*]Relock the bootloader:
      Code:
      fastboot oem lock

    9. Run your RUU

If you have correctly completed the process you will no longer get the "Main Version is older! Update Fail! Press <POWER> to reboot" message and you will be able to downgrade to GingerBread.

Note: By choosing an appropriate value for the version it is also possible to return to a specific operator ROM if you have previously upgraded with a goldcard and you have a suitable original RUU. If using the procedure for a downgrade within gingerbread you must first root the flyer and skip step 8. For example you can downgrade from a WWE RUU to an O2 RUU.

    Special Thanks

To identify which RUU to use

    1. Boot the phone to fastboot mode
    2. Run the following command:
      Code:
      fastboot getvar cid

This will return the CID of your device. Find the appropriate RUU from this list:
The Xs that appear indicate that these numbers are not important for RUU selection, only the numbers which are not Xs are important.

    For Linux users

    1. Download the following file: unruu MD5=b8708edcce49b195e2d6d595ded77c40

    2. Navigate to where you downloaded the file and run the following commands:

      Code:
      sudo cp unruu /usr/bin
      chown root:root /usr/bin/unruu
      sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/unruu
    3. Download the appropriate RUU for your device.

    4. Extract the rom.zip from the RUU by running the following command

      Code:
      unruu -k <ruu file name>

      For example:
      Code:
      unruu -k RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_Wifi_1.36.1114.32_Radio_20.3501.30.089BU_3809.05.04.10_M_release_191235_signed.exe

    5. Run the RUU as follows:
      Code:
      sudo adb reboot bootloader
      sudo fastboot oem lock
      sudo fastboot erase cache
      sudo fastboot oem rebootRUU
      sudo fastboot flash zip rom.zip

    For mac Users

    1. Unfortunately I don't currently have a build environment on which to build the unruu command, however Mac are a small use case so I have provided the most common RUUs as zip file downloads:

      RUU_Flyer_BrightstarUS_WWE_1.36.1540.32_R_Radio_20.3501.30.089BU_3809.05.04.10_M_release_191425_signed.zip
      RUU_Flyer_BrightstarUS_WWE_2.27.1540.31_R_Radio_20.3504.30.089BU_3809.07.04.06_M_release_204116_signed.zip
      RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_1.36.405.3.zip
      RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_2.23.405.3.zip
    2. Run the RUU as follows:
      Code:
      sudo adb reboot bootloader
      sudo fastboot oem lock
      sudo fastboot erase cache
      sudo fastboot oem rebootRUU
sudo fastboot flash zip <rom file name.zip>
    3. If the RUU you need is not in this list, please request it or boot to windows/linux and extract the rom.zip
    4
Nice. I opted to guinea pig for globatron yesterday but being a Mac user required repackaging the exe. If someone can recommend a MAC RUU client/port/app...that would be great help.

    Zip versions:
    http://www.multiupload.com/NBJMHJFLAB RUU_Flyer_BrightstarUS_WWE_1.36.1540.32
    http://www.multiupload.com/O5ZLYG7NKN RUU_Flyer_BrightstarUS_WWE_2.27.1540.31

I didn't bother with md5's because the RUU will check the signatures anyway.

    Code:
    fastboot oem lock
    fastboot erase cache
    fastboot oem rebootRUU
    fastboot flash zip <rom-name.zip>
