This is pretty funny.
My Verizon Fascinate started getting the 2.3 update last night. I noticed that while the update is downloading, it has mounted a filesystem on /data/fota.
In that filesystem is ipth_package.bin.dd
In that (text) file there is a link to download the OTA firmware update directly from innopath:
(The link is messed up because I haven't posted enough to post outside links)
https : // dl11 . innopath . com:443/prod/v1/fota/6888273.dat
That dat file is a zip archive, with a standard android patch update.
This is probably only of technical interest to a few.
Anyway, seems like the update will install on a rooted device as long as you have all the stock apps installed. I found them from here:
http: // forums . androidcentral . com / verizon-fascinate-rooting-roms-hacks/105468-rom-odin-ed05-stock-rom-radio-kernel-not-rooted-leak.html (untar, and mount the factoryfs.rfs on your computer to pull out the files you need).
The automatic update didn't seem to work, so I copied 6888273.dat to the sdcard as update.zip, then did adb reboot recovery to put the phone in recovery mode, and selected "apply update.zip" from the stock recovery. No idea if it would work with clockwork installed.
