Decided to put some extra notes here for those that only read the last page. :D Also put this in the OP.

Just a reminder regarding the newer recoveries, CWM 6.0.4.5 and TWRP 2.6.3.0, they are in flashable zip form on succulent's blogsite linked above. You should be reading his blog info anyway, so just scroll untill you see the links for those recoveries. If you run into a problem flashing the zip, one of the simplest ways to get the job done is with Flashify. Just unzip the recovery zip to get the image file. Put the image file on your device and flash it with Flashify right from within you current OS, ie; CM10.2 etc.

Regarding ART runtime: Since it's still "experimental", YMMV with the results you get. Also, Google may decide ART isn't feasible and dump it going forward.

A couple of things to note, not all gapps packages are ART compatible, the gapps I linked from 1209 do work, I'm not sure about the ones linked on succulent's blogsite from 1208. I believe the PA zero day gapps are also ART compatible.

With ART runtime, it is generally better to initiate it on a fresh rom install and before you install all of your user apps. Btw, it's normal for it to take a long time to initialize on the first reboot. I found that it generally takes a while to "settle in" and should become more fluid/speedier overtime.

Always be sure to have a nandroid backup so you can easily go back to dalvik if ART isn't your thing.

One last thing about ART, Xposed Framework does not yet support it. It will appear to work but it does not. Matter of fact, with Xposed installed on your device, it will revert ART runtime back to Dalvik. Since I love using Xposed, this has kept me from using ART except to test it.

Mike T
Ah ha! There is the problem. I have xposed framework installed, that is why it kept reverting to Dalvik. Not giving up xposed so I guess I don't get ART until it's supported by xposed.

I tried installing both eemc and sd card versions but received the following error:
"set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
E: Error in /eemc/B&N Downloads/cm_ovation_11.0_21DEC2013_HD_SDC.zip
(status 7)"
Did anyone else get this error or have any idea to resolve this issue?
Thanks,

Yeah, did you take the time to read the OP or any of this thread? You're using an old recovery CWM 6.0.3.2, you need to update to either CWM 6.0.4.5 or TWRP 2.6.3. which is listed in the OP

I suggest you read the OP and also read over blog page by the dev succulent before going forward.

It works great using it right now. Just make sure you enable ART. Pretty much makes the nook a usable tablet again. Just make sure you have ART compatible gapps or you will get errors. Seriously ART is the ducks nuts! Kitkat didn't feel that much faster than the carbon ROM on here until I turned on ART. I did a full reinstall as I was having errors from the wrong gapps. SERIOUSLY DO EEEETTT ;)

...unless you prefer xposed framework than don't bother because it isn't going to do anything. Saying it makes it a "usable tablet again" doesn't really make sense either. Do something to your tablet to make it not usable or something?

EDIT: OK, I may eat my words.. Lol. Just turned off xposed and turned ART on. Took a while to redo everything on first boot but all the programs seem to launch much faster now. Going good to mess with this for a while and see if it's better than having the features of xposed framework. Here is hoping they get an ART compatible version out.

I recieved the same error message. Updated to the newest cmw posted in his blog I am on the new recovery. Did a factory reset then tried to install rom. Is the part if using terminal to copy over recovery needed if you already have updated cmw?

maybe I just need to redownload rom zip?

i really want to try this, shame i have a HD =<
I use both HD and HD+ both with CarbonRom. IMHO, you're not missing much by not having CM11. The differences are mainly Graphics. This is one of the best reviews I've found http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/11/android-4-4-kitkat-thoroughly-reviewed/ comparing KK and JB.

"Gravity Box KK", Exposed Framework, module will bring some of the features of CarbonR, but not as cleanly. Some of the other Exposed framework enhancements are available for CM10.2 as well. The developer of the Ovation/KK has made some changes to touchscreen and I'm wondering if that has something to do with the fix of 'twitchy touchscreen' that there is a fix for here, but has nothing to do with hummingbird. I'd like to know about TRIMfix too. I don't see much in speed performance but I know nothing about ART vs Dalvik other than what is in the posts before this one.

If you're a flashaholic, you'll be missing the action of continuing development for a short time. I"m sure that someone will bring an KK to the HD as well.

I'm also confident that there will be a thread here soon in Android Development for a KK rom.

Yeah that's what I ment by 'usable' everything just seems more responsive. Google are definitely going in the right direction with this!

Don't know why you received that message with CWM 6.0.4.5, try installing TWRP 2.6.3, see if that will allow you flash the rom and gapps. Then the rom will install CWM 6.0.4.5 back by default.

Sometimes a reboot into recovery from a failed flash and trying again will also work. Hopefully, you'll have better luck with TWRP.

For those that have ART working, I keep getting "unfortunately the process .gapps has stopped" error using the 1209 Gapps linked in the OP. This is on a fresh install, tried clearing cache, still persists.

Any ideas to fix?

You need gapps for ART. I'm using Paranoid Android stock gapps 4.4.
I believe PA hosts on goo. Do a search for PA gapps for 4.4.
Sorry I don't have a link handy.
Flash the new PA gapps, reboot, then change to ART in Settings --> Developer Options.

Reboot. It'll take a while. You should be good to go.

I read both the OP and the blog. The recovery files are for internal recovery. Last time, I replaced nook's internal recovery with TWRP, I didn't have a good experience. I wondered if there was a recovery file that could be written on sd card.

Anyway, I flashed cwm to internal recovery and successfully installed cm 11.

Thanks :good:

Glad you got it working. I know that you already installed it but going forward this may be a good TWRP 2.6.3.0 sdcard recovery alternative.

Thx. The PA Gapps are working great.

Hopefully the OP will get updated as it implies the 1209 Gapps it links to are ART compatible.
