Anyone know if there is a good, legal, GPS navigation program that I can DOWNLOAD? The Garmin link is dead, and every other program I've checked (Tomtom, Copilot, others) requires purchase of an SD card.

Thanks for any tips.

Try NDrive,a portuguese gps program, quite good.
in Portugal, it has a good advantage, over competition: an excepcional POI database.

It is known for some "imaginative" route calculation, but it has regular updates, and it's getting a little smarter.

and it is not expensive, starting at 30€, depending on maps needed.

Link is for english version of the site, but they have in other languages.

Hey, thanks for the tip. It actually looks good but I should have mentioned that I am in North America. The North American maps alone for that cost $104 in addition to the 30 euros...

I might consider it if there are no cheaper options.

Big country, big maps... big $ :D

But if you tick only North America map, the total will be 80€ (104$?), no need to pay the 30€.

So, the price it's already down, from your initial expectations! :D

PS: not trying to sell you nothing, just trying to help. ;)

If you don't have an SD card at all, then Google Maps is your best bet. But if you don't have a data plan (or are not in 3G coverage), Google Maps is not appropriate.

If you have an SD card already, then you can install a taster version of TomTom, install TomTom Home on your PC, and then purchase the maps through it. The maps will work on any SD card, no need for a special one.

I definitely appreciate the suggestion - I tried it but it rejects the Xperia. Never had so much difficulty spending $100 in my life! I might just stick with Google maps because maybe I won't hit my data plan limit since I might only use GPS a few times a month.
