The "HTCDriver_4.2.0.001" won't install on Windows 8.1 Pro. Not even in compatibility mode. In device manager "MTP" is not right leading I cant access my phones internal storage.

Any solution for Windown 8.1?
You're not using the latest driver, get the latest from HTC's site. Should be version 4.6.001 or later. Wasn't working on 8.1 several weeks ago but an updated version might be available.

I cant seem to find it anywhere, "HTC Sync Manager" (drivers should be included in it right?) is the only thing I can find on HTC's website and installing the latest version of it doesnt help either! Can u please post a link to the 4.6.001 or later driver?
Here's a screenshot of device manager: http://share.pho.to/3tmIE/nq/original

Thanks

I'll extract it for you later. Need to update this anyway

64 bit or 32 bit?

I'd been trying for ages to get fastboot to work on Win 8.1 but using a combination of the methods above worked.

1. Uninstalled the USB root hubs and let Windows reinstall them
2. Installed latest HTC Sync Manager
3. Installed latest Clockworkmod Universal drivers

Plugged my in my One in Fastboot mode and it worked.

Btw, did u mean extract from "HTC Sync Manager"? The drivers included in it doesn't work, the sync manager installs on 8.1 but while installing i see same sort of "error" when installing "HTCDriver_4.2.0.001.exe", bunch of command prompts open and close quickly.

here is an solution. works not for me, but maybe for you

and here is another universal driver by Koushik Dutta:

fastboot not tested, not enough time :(
Installed the universal driver and it sees "Android Device" but "MTP" still doesn't work, fastboot dosen't see device. I need this damn "MTP Device Driver" working.

Did that, still no "MTP" :/

Latest HTC Drivers
Latest HTC Drivers extracted from HTC Sync v3.3.21 and HTC Sync Manager v2.0.61.0

Latest Driver Version (HTC Sync): 4.0.1.001
Latest Driver Version (HTC Sync Manager): 4.2.0.001

BMP Drivers are the same for both sets of drivers.

For those who don't want to have to download 120 some MB of bloatware called HTC Sync ;)

------------

MD5 CHECKSUMS
Sometimes downloading from the internet can yield a corrupt download. To prevent this, make sure you always check the md5 checksum (also known as "md5sum") of the file. This method verifies the digital integrity of the file by verifying its digital signature with the MD5 algorithm.

After you download each file, make sure to check that the md5sum matches what is given.

How to check the md5sum of a file:

Windows:
For windows you need to download the md5sum binary. I recommend the one from my dev-host.

After that, copy the file you're trying to verify to the directory where where you downloaded the "md5sum.exe"

Once that is finished, do SHIFT+RIGHT CLICK (inside the folder window) and choose "Open command window here"

Then type the following ("fileNameHere" must include the extension):
Code:
md5sum fileNameHere
That will output a hash, which you can compare to the ones above.

Linux: No need to download anything, md5sum binaries are included in all distros, as far as I know.

Open a terminal and type the following ("fileNameHere" must include the extension):

Code:
$ cd path/to/download/folder
$ md5sum fileNameHere

Two important notes:
This method can be used with any files you download, as long as the download site (or the dev themself) provides the correct md5sum.
If any of the digits do not match exactly, you need to download the file again.
Can you please provide drivers and instructions for Mac users as well?
I am using Mac OS X. I was happily debugging on my HTC One X when I was on Android 4.0. I recently updated to 4.2.2 and now the adb has stopped detecting my HTC Once X. Can you please help me fix this?

Any official update for Windows 8.1 drivers yet? To get the "MTP" working so the PC sees the internal storage.
MTP works on Windows 8.1 without any special drivers. It should detect it and install it's own driver. it's only fastboot that doesn't appear to be working yet on 8.1 for some people.
