ATRIX 4G MB860Upgrade to Android 2.3 now available (Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates) or here.

Note that is does *not* say that the ATRIX 4G MB860 "will remain on Android 2.3" This means that they have not officially decided that it won't get ICS, or that it will get ICS. This is still very much a possibility. Just dont expect it within the next 6 months :D

In all honesty, I'm not holding my breath for an ICS update for the Atrix, seeing how slow they've been to get Gingerbread rolled out. My phone (TMo UK unlocked) still shouldn't have it...

CM9 is probably our only hope given the relative lack of developers and from what I understand about the changes between 2.3 and 4.0 even this may be difficult. Although at least if the Optimus 2X and various tablets with the Tegra 2 get ICS updates we'll have working graphics drivers which is a big hurdle to overcome - although there may be issues with closed-source drivers if our kernel varies from those used on other devices by a significant margin...

I am pretty sure that our CM7 port started with a kang from g2x, now that g2x is getting ICS we will be able to kang ics roms if the source is too difficult to work with... or if the g2x gets ICS before the source is released. Either way I know we will have it in some form or another on our phones. I plan to just go buy a darn ICS phone as soon as one hits a decent price point.

Official Motorola information about ICS update :

A note about Ice Cream Sandwich:

We are planning to upgrade DROID RAZR™ by Motorola, Motorola RAZR™, Motorola XOOM™ (including Family Edition) and DROID BIONIC™ by Motorola to Ice Cream Sandwich. We will provide more precise guidance on timing after post-public push of Ice Cream Sandwich by Google, as well as any possible additions to this list of devices.
It's available here : Motorola Android Software Upgrade News

I really believe that I will never go Moto again, the support for this phone is a nightmare!

OTA Gingerbread was worse than Froyo, ICS will probably more even more problematic, I hate to say it.. as much as I love Motorola phones, they need to be more like HTC with their bootloaders, and more. However, ill continue to donate to developers at CM as they're doing a better job with android then every manufacturer's developing team.

Yeah, I hope the Atrix will get ICS but as you say it'll probably be more to do with LG than Motorola :p

Although notice that they don't even mention the just-released Atrix 2 in that announcement, and they do mention a Tegra 2 device (the XOOM) so you never know... Now where's that magic lantern?

If it makes you guys feel any better, Radioshack is completely pulling the Bionic from shelves indefinitely due to some rather hilarious hardware issues, including a melted battery, dead screens... etc etc.

So yeah, Motorola will update a phone that at least one retailer won't sell but won't update a better phone? Nice.

CM9, when it finally arrives, would still need the ICS drivers to run properly. Without those MANY issues will surface and most of them will either end up being ported from other similar devices or simply given hope on.

I know...I had to switch from my Vibrant for some proper GB and we had CM7 since June so go figure...

Without a Moto release there will be no CM9, not the great one you're looking for anyway, so stop with the Moto hate and start praying for a release instead if you're THAT much of a fan.
