Does anyone know if German o2 carrier eSIM works with the Pixel 3a? Some people suggest it works some it doesnt... also, how easy/fast can you switch between the esim+sim for data? How easy can you select esim for data and vice versa? Can you also deactivate a sim if you dont need it?
O2 says that eSim will be supported on the P3 and iPhones by end of September. I'd call to make sure or head over to Reddit and ask for confirmation. You need to go into the menus to switch data defaults. It's not difficult and only takes a few seconds. There are a bunch of data options you can choose from with respect to which sim to use and if you can get data while using one or the other. I believe you cannot deactivate the physical sim currently but there was a thread a week or so ago about deactivating the eSim. I'll look for it a little later if you can't find it.

Is there some toggle widget you can switch Data usage between esim <-> sim easily and quick back and forth?
Not that I've seen but it's a good idea. I'd also like to see a toggle that will allow quick switch for phone calls rather than going into the menu or leaving "ask everytime" on.

No problems with O2 eSIM. Changing sim for data or calls is also working.

You can deactivate only the eSIM for now. For the physical SIM unfortunately it is not possible.

That is total nonsense of course. It of course will have an impact, especially if the two cards use different frequencies. There need to have a seperate connection being opened which draws more energy.
In standby mode, there's no constant connection with the towers however, only when you have data connection or voice call connected.
But theoretically DSDS does draw significantly more energy in some cases, for example if you are travelling in moving vehicle and both line would need to register with new towers pretty frequently.

Damn this makes me doubt if I should start using DSDS in my Pixel 4.

I take the train every day to work.

If my battery starts draining more, I'll have to rollback from eSIM to SIM one of the two.

Sent from my Pixel 4

There was one detail earlier this thread I want clarification on:

When shopping for a 3a, and choosing a correct model that supports dual sim, the box will have two IMEI numbers? Is it safe to simply buy a used a G020G if I can't verify this on the box? I know to avoid the Verizon model, but is any G020G model a safe bet?

Personally I'd like to see the startup screen where it says put in sim or use your esim option. Then you should be good to go. If it only says put in your sim then you have a VZW phone and avoid it. 2 IMEI should do it but that could be forged perhaps. How about the IMEI beginning with a 99 and not a 35?
