Does this trip Knox?
Installing a custom recovery will trip Knox. So if you root yes it will. Not sure if you just Odin it.

I just tried mine and it connected in about 10 seconds. Rooting shouldn't effect your gps, flashing custom roms and kernels may. I'm just stock kk rooted

Followed all of the steps to upgrade and root my friends n3, after odin ing the recovery I got stuck on the reboot.message recovery not seandroid enforced
after googling the error it seems that the recovery file I used was a 4.3 recovery not a 4.4.my question is that the Philz thread says that the 6.0+ files work with 4.4 but I had flashed the 6.12.8 file and still got this error.looking around some more it seems that now the hltemo is not the correct file and we should use the 6.25.0hlte version, via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595995 can anybody confirm this? At the moment I cannot access recovery at all, just download mode, and it's my friends phone so I want to try to get everything lined up for when he comes over again. Can I odin the 6.25.0 file to get recovery and then flash ROM file? Will reflashing(odin) the stock nb4 file get the stock recovery back? I have tried both the 6.12.8 and the 6.08.7 file from Philz goo.Im site and neither one get past the seandroid message.
@iBowToAndroid used the mentioned cf-auto root on my friends phone and it worked fine, burrently on the official nb4 4.4 rom, rooted, but no custom recovery.

Yes flashing 6.25 will work, then flash a rom with root.

Not rooting?

Root Checker says I'm not rooted after doing step 4. I know I did all other steps properly.

It reboots and shows the red android but root checker says it's not rooted.

just wanted to say good job on making this guide bro... it has to be the easiest and most un-confusing thread on how to root your device that i have ever seen... and i like how you didnt use a reverted file server for the download links. my uncle wanted to root his phone and usually its a pain in the ass to help because he lives in a diff state and refering him to a how to thread is usually frustrating as hell for him to figure out the steps and find the download link in in which ever file server they use when hitting the download link. but just wanted to say thanks bro. wish more how to threads were this straight forward

Can this method work in SM-N9005 if I just download the right 4.4.2 firmware and carrier for this SM-N9005 and use the provided CF-Root and Philz recovery?
Because I see this thread is for T Variant. I have an international SM-N9005(Note 3).
Please confirm. Thank you so much for this very informative thread.
God bless you!

My question is this, in recovery, how do in restore "data"? I used custom restore and it gives me multiple partitions. I have tried all of them but nothing happens.

i dnt know if you got your answer. but there are roms out there that require you to enable developer options (pressing build number a few times), and from there you will see ROOT ACCESS. choose apps and adb. i use slimkat and thats what i do to turn on root

If you would use TWRP for your recovery, backing up and or restoring DATA, SYSTEM
or any other individual part of the rom is very easy and self-explanatory.

Good luck!

TWRP is great. When I updated to kit kat the recovery used was philz. If I could just restore the data I would be happy. Then I would install TWRP.

*** Nevermind, after a third Odin flash it worked.

So I've followed the instructions and after flashing the file in Odin the phone is stuck on the boot logo displaying "BOOTING RECOVERY" and will not boot. Help?
