No I check that and I was good I tried odin 3.0.7 and 0.9 version and nothing hmm I'll have to check another windows computer I think to test and see I have the files on my SD so I'll recheck but I don't know if windows 8 is my issue but when I rooted I ran windows 7 and it worked. And tips to help maybe something else I didn't try

Windows 8 is not your problem, i have done this on Windows 8 with all 3 versions of Odin. Verify the Samsung drivers are working properly. You should see a com port when in download mode

Please just tell me whether or not I need to install the SDEXT FIX if I only need to root using CFAutoRoot?

The SD card fix worked just fine...i have zero issues writing to it. If you are rooting the official and only doing recovery you might be fine, if not just flash and it should solve the issue

You are not helping me here. I wouldn't root if I know it will cause this problem. That is why I am asking to have an answer from someone who did this already.

refer above

That's weird. I am in a similar situation. I have a T-Mo Note 3 rooted with De La Vega, stock ROM, but with TWRP recovery. I am also on AT&T via Straight Talk. I was expecting that it would not allow me to update because I was rooted, but when I checked for an update, it said one was available. I started to download it, but thought better of it and cancelled. I remember that there were problems before with people updating rooted phones OTA.

I think i'll just do it the way the OP says. I'm gonna get on that now.

EDIT:

I see that someone posted a link to a TWRP recovery as well and said that it works. I am already familiar with TWRP, is there any benefit to switching to Philz Recovery?
I prefer TWRP and I was able to flash ROMS I wasn't able to with Philz....TWRP flows better and is way easier to navigate....try it out you won't be disappointed

My flash went great and I'm now putting everything back. The only problem I incurred was when I flashed the first time, I got stuck at the "Samsung Galaxy Note 3" and blue "Rebooting Recovery" screen. When I flashed the second time, I unplugged from the computer immediately after the flash while the phone was rebooting, and have had no problems since. Everyt'ing Irie now. :good: THANK YOU SO MUCH TEKHD FOR THE GREAT INSTRUCTIONS!!!! :victory:

Wait for the official CWM. Philz is similiar in look so you might go with that. TWRP does have a working version so there's that option as well.

The SDEXT FIX is for an issue that some have with the SD card, but not all of us have that issue. If you don't have an issue accessing the SD card or moving apps to it then you're fine.

One more question though, will I be able to flash cwm recovery using Rom manager after I root using cfautoroot? Or I still have to wait for the official release from cwm?

And do I have to install the extsd FIX If I only want to root?
Odin 3.07 works with Windows 8.1, it's what I used. If I need, I can upload it.

hello all
was wondering if someone of greater mind could assist here is the odin version compatible with windows 8 because when i jump into download mode my device dose not show i ran the drivers and still nothing.

1. Thank you
2. To ask a dumb question, do you have to do a full backup first? Since this is flashing a new ROM, won't this mean we'll have to reinstall from TIBackup or something?

yes, noob question, I just used Odin the other day and I flashed over a current T-Mobile ROM but I just wanted to ask the dumb question just in case.

No you don't want to restore from a nand backup because it will overwrite the system directory unless you are already running a kit kat rom. If you have a MI7 rom you "may" run into problems. people are saying that they have had success running JB roms with new new bootloader. Also TBackup does work. I restored some of my apps that way.

I can second TBackup working with Kitkat to restore apps.

If you Odin the TAR file you won't be able to go back to 4.3 as this updates the bootloader. Dragonstalker might have a solution by now, but I haven't checked that thread.

When I Odin'd the TAR I didn't lose any of my setup or apps, it just updated everything. IF you go back and FLASH a ROM, like the Odex/Deodex, then you will be starting from scratch. I did this option myself with no issues.

Hope that helps.

Pull your battery out. Hold the powerbutton down and count to 20. Put battery back in. Hold Vol DN+Power+Home keys.
Then press volume up to go into download mode.

Then you will be able to Odin your phone again.

@dragonstalker is correct, you will need to re-odin your phone. The CF-Root did this to my phone as well (not saying it happened to yours, but I know that is what did it to mine), kept saying booting to recovery in a loop, not being able to do anything. Had to battery pull and re-odin my phone.

To get around rooting with cf-root, you can just flash philz recovery and go under PhilZ Settings, re-root system, then download super su from the market. It was easy as that.

Same thing happened to me. After attempting to CF-Root (which cause the recovery loop). I just pulled the battery and put my phone back in download mode, flashed Philz, then ran CF root again. Almost completely backwards lol, but it worked nonetheless.

Great job and excellent instruction even a noob could follow. :good:

I was on Tweaked and odined the rom only so far. I did no wipe and all my apps are still there, only dropbox FC'd. It is running super smooth as is. I was considering TWRP and allowing it to root automatically. Have many people tried the posted version of TWRP and had good results. I have no problem waiting a few days if needed for an official TWRP release for our device.

Thought it was just me when it first happened. Now i know i'm not going crazy. Anybody else getting the amazing disappearing apps?

I went to go pull the modem.img from my phone and noticed that Es File Mgr is gone along with a half dozen other apps.
