*EDIT* I don't know why it wasn't working for me before but now I have 95% working Substratum on stock including play store and most of my paid themes.

You must be rooted! I am on latest @aer0zer0's november all-in-one-BTS( can be found here on xda)

So if this theme is applied can you still update via ota? I know you would loose root at best.
You can disable Substratum themes before you start the process and re-enable after. Substratum doesn't effect root or ota.

1 download ota and stock_twrp_magisk_boot.img /

2 reboot bootloader /

3 reboot recovery /

4 flash ota /

5 press home /

6 flash stock_twrp_magisk_boot.img

7 reboot system

8 profit

After December update I can't even get the quick settings to change to dark but Substratum's still working the same for rooted user's. Build overlays / reboot and enable

Can't get to work Pixel 3 Android 9 /w December update. App's theme ok but settings and notifications remain white.
Build all modules than reboot and enable. Sometimes it take several reboots and you may need to switch from dark to lite mode or vise versa under Settings / display / advanced. Hope that this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

So, everything works ok it's just the Settings UI and Notifications that seem to switch on and off at random, everything else is ok.

Could this be a Google Pixel 3 specific issue? Reboots did help when initially installing. Just cant get the black Settings UI to stay.

Lol I thought you were talking about a theme when you said Pixel 3. This is a thread for the essential phone and I have no idea what's going on with your Pixel. Sorry maybe your right and it is a device specific bug?
