I imagine your theory is correct. I recall some of the same issues reported with the Chinese mate 9. I rebranded my AL00 to L29 before even attempting root.Yes indeed.

I tried to rebrand first also but the currently available TWRP is not compatible so I couldn't do that.I imagine your theory is correct. I recall some of the same issues reported with the Chinese mate 9. I rebranded my AL00 to L29 before even attempting root.
I used the TWRP posted on funkyhiawei's site and it worked fine (I did use a different TWRP to root, but the one on funky did work to backup/restore the oeminfo partition)I tried to rebrand first also but the currently available TWRP is not compatible so I couldn't do that.
You will have no problem rooting/rebranding AL00 unless you get the eMMC version. And the eMMC is not unique to the AL00.So I might be able to purchase a VKY-AL00. I was wondering if this version is for sure able to be rooted? TWRP installs and everything?
Thanks
EDIT: So it looks like I'd have to use TWRP to flash the dual sim European model to this dual sim Chinese model?
Okay, and what about the VKY-L29?You will have no problem rooting/rebranding AL00 unless you get the eMMC version. And the eMMC is not unique to the AL00.
Chinese Vs Rest of the world, but for my best knowledge they are the same hardware wise. You can also "Rebrand" from one to another. I did it...Okay, and what about the VKY-L29?
What is the difference between VKY-L29 and VKY-AL00?
I don't see any support for the VKY devices in TWRP?

I'm having issues unlocking the bootloader because there is to "OEM unlock" in the developer options with my VKY-AL00 and can see you successfully rebranded to a VKY-L09.PieceofSlice,
TWRP is fully supported. Works without a problem.
With the L09 and the L29.
Im running TWRP with a full root (without error 1) with a VKY-L09:good:
