100% won't work, EE don't have the ability to unlock the Pixels yet as they're not 6 months old.

If you bought it from EE then you're stuck using it on EE until the 6 months is up.

Not quite accurate ...

They do have the ability, it's just that they won't.

However they do have discretion to unlock a device before 6 months if they consider it exceptional emergency service. You have to plea your case in writing and it's still at their discretion ...

Technically correct, they *can* but they won't as CS won't go out of process and potentially risk disciplinary action to do it.

For "emergencies" It needs to be authorised by a manager who will submit the request, CS won't (or at least shouldn't!) do it before 6 months has passed.

It's not standard CS you have to go through for this 'discretionary' unlock. You have to go through the emergency emt escalations department which is why it has to be done in writing and with evidence of proof of ownership and proof of genuine reason for the unlock and even then it's still only at their discretion.

Has anybody ever managed to get EE to unlock a phone within 6 months? As in, by writing or emailing into them?

Going abroad later this week and this is the only phone I have!

Yeah I have found comments and threads in various fora of those who have had it successfully unlocked (not with pixel but other devices) however it does appear you need a far better reason than merely just leaving the country unfortunately.

I wonder what these better reasons could be?

I have one as well and I can't manage to get it unlocked. What if we change the firmware from Verizon to the global ones? Will that make any difference? Cheers

I don't believe so. Changing firmware won't remove the sim lock which is tied to the IMEI

I see. Well its some sort of software thing since you can have another sim in if you're not connected to the internet..

It's possible a ROM maker may be able to disable the service that is running the SIM check and so flashing said custom ROM would resolve it somewhat, but tbh by the time that came around it'll be months and those of us eager to get an unlock will then be able to unlock with EE anyway.
