So guys.
Im still with problems with imei.
Im on omega v17 and if i restart my phone the imei goes to 049...
So i have to delete efs folder . Reboot. Copy a backup folder to efs folder . Reboot. And the imei is correct.
So today i did that

Installed Perseus kernell
Installed modem dmf1

Nothing changed.

Decide to install modem dlk7 (as i read here on forum this combination dlk7 with dme6 ) would have no chance to work out.
So i installed dlk7 and made que erase . Reboot. Copy. Reboot efs folder.

And. .. dlk7 with dme6 WORKING. .
Imei is ok and i connect to network normally. Of course same problem. If i restart i lose my IMEI.
So my question is. How could this combination functions ?

May my backup be one from old firm. Version ???

Would recommend you to flash unrooted rom and reset your binary counter then visit samsung service centre...

Hey everyone,
You must have heard about the latest stability update.
There have been major changes to the working of kernel/modem/efs with the roms ME6 And MF2.
Kernel everywhere in this post means the one packed with me6 or mf2 unless specified.

1)All the custom ROMs based on ME6 or MF2 require the modems XXDME4 or DXDMF1. Or you won't get signal.
2)The kernel will modify the efs so that only XXDME4 and DXDMF1 modems can read it.
3)Once you boot up with the latest kernel, the efs will be modified, and you will need to stick to XXDME4 or DXDMF1 modems even after changing ROMs.
4)The modems XXDME4 and DXDMF1 are compatible with all the kernels (even 4.1.1)
5)Modems can't be changed if you are on a rom based on ME6/MF2.

If you haven't Flashed ME6 or MF2 based rom yet. - Backup EFS First
You will need to flash a custom kernel with the rom or a previous stock kernel.
Any kernels in this kernel changer are safe to use.
To flash a rom based on mf2 or me6, download the rom and the kernel changer. Flash the rom as you normally would(try not to choose the modem and kernel).
Then without rebooting, run the kernel changer and choose any kernel you want (the latest safe stock kernel is dme1)
If however, you want to change modem later on , downgrade to a non ME6 or MF2 ROM then change modem.
If you get a corrupt imei after changing modem, restore the EFS backup you made earlier.

If you have flashed ME6 or MF2 based rom. - Your EFS has been modified, No changing Modems(Only XXDME4 or DXDMF1) Backup EFS anyway.
If you aren't getting signal - flash this modem (DME4) or this one (DMF1)
If you made a EFS backup prior to flashing ME6 or MF2 based rom then downgrade to a non ME6 or MF2 ROM then change modem. After reboot you won't have imei. Now restore your EFS.
Even if you do not have a previous EFS backup then try the same procedure, but don't change modem. If you get signal, then you were lucky(happens in case you flashed a custom rom or didn't flash the latest kernel).
If you don't get signal then you could try this-
1)Copy your EFS folder to a safe location.
2)Delete the EFS folder. It will way can't but don't worry.
3)Reboot. You might have factory mode (yellow colour text on screen) and no lockscreen.
4)Copy the backed up EFS folder back. (Replace All)
5)Reboot.

If you can't get rid of factory mode(yellow text overlay) even after recovering imei, try this-
Enter all the commands into terminal emulator one by one and hit enter after everyone. Don't forget to give SuperUser permissions to it.
Code:
su
rm /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
rm /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
echo -n ON >> /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
echo -n ON >> /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
chmod 0744 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
chmod 0744 /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
reboot
Honourable Mention -
Thunder Roar Rom has been configured to allow modem change without corrupting efs - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2338033

P.S. The Mod himself recommended me to post in android development section.
At the beggining of first post, it says :

" All the custom ROMs based on ME6 or MF2 require the modems XXDME4 or DXDMF1. Or you won't get signal."

So , is it possible to explain How I´M HAVING signal , Imei and EVERYTHING with Omega V17( DME6) and DLK7 Modem ?
As stated it SHULDN´T function at all.

I think that there is still something wrong with ALL this history of what Should work or not about latests Update...

or that´s just crazyness from my head ??

That will be my latest option. As I mentioned Above, there MUST have something strange about all this stuff...

I´ll keep on trying to discover that :)

Thanks.

Well according to wesamothman, you can't change modem on me6 unless you are on his rom.
Maybe you flashed ril as well that's why.

Man,

Only if Omega v17 installer did.

Aside Omega installer, I Just Flashed Perseus Kernell and the Modem DLK7 itself.

So, I´m not sure about the difference about RIL , Modem, Baseband...

But, Never did anything about Ril...

Guys, I have a EFS backup, but it's in .tar format. Any idea how I can restore it?

Not sure how this backup was made. The guy who sold me the phone forgot. He was a drug addict, anyway... :silly:

-----

I'm not having any troubles right now. But I have this backup and... just in case, you know. Otherwise, I can try and make a new backup with dr.ketan's method.

Will do.

Alright. Now, another thing.

I currently have the XXDME4 modem installed, but I figure there's a newer one available, which is stable & all. Care to provide a flashable .zip, please? If it's stable & safe enough to switch to from this modem I have now... :D

Downgrading back to N7100XXDME1

Hi

Utkarsh Gupta, i am already on the DMG1, If i have to downgrade my rom back to N7100XXDME1. Is it straight forward, considering i have the EFS backup before even upgrading to DME1.

Just to let you know, while i was upgrading from DME6 TO DMG1, MY IMEI became null and i used the same EFS restore, to put back the IMEI.

I just want to go back to DME1 as i am having serious battery drain from DME6 onwards. For me DME1 was very very stable.

I'm in a bit of a pickle here,
I updated directly to MF2 including the stock kernel. derp.

After figuring out the issue I realized I don't think I have an EFS backup anywhere, so I flashed back to the previous MC3 based build with the modem from it (Rogers).
Now I've got:
Baseband: I317MVLBMA3

My IMEI reads ok, but the system keeps crashing/rebooting, data comes up and connects but it all seems to crash after that.

Where can I go from here?

Just to keep updated, I've tried numerous mentioned things to no avail. I tried a data recovery on my sdcard hoping to find an old backup there but no luck, I also tried a data recovery on /efs but no luck there either.

At this point am I SOL?
