EMUI 10.1 is really close.

I just installed 10.1 and am disappointed. It seems that disabling animations in the dev options no loner works. There are now animations every time I change windows which makes it sluggish.

It may be my imagination, Firefox also feels slower.

After using 10.1 for a full day, I can say for certain that everything is laggier: swiping back, swiping down on the status bar, bringing up the keyboard, tapping buttons in any app. I'm very disappointed.

My experience with 10.1 so far is similar: Overall a little bit laggier than before.

For me it's gotten really bad. It feels like the CPU is running at 20% of normal speed. Everything I do is so much slower. Even something as simple as turning on and off the flashlight is now delayed.

Is there a safe way to downgrade back to 10. 0?

Omg I fixed it. It's sooo much faster now, completely back to normal.

The solution was to disable all of the autoscans in the Huawei "Optimizer" app. Ahhh feels so much better now.
You mean the four entries under "Settings" (Smart tune-up, auto clean junk files, auto update cleanup database, online virus scan)? Ok, disabled all of them, let's see.

Yes. But when I woke up this morning, my phone was slow again! I noticed that there was message about "Play Protect" being on, so I opened the settings and see that it's scanning is enabled (I had always kept this disabled before the update). Within 30 seconds of disabling it, my phone is now fast again.

It's really bad that these background scans have such a huge performance impact on the phone. I noticed that in the update Changelog, there is a note about some improved deterministic latency engine thing. Huawei must have really screwed up the kernel's cpu scheduling.

Unfortunately there are still some times throughout the day where it will get laggy. The intermittent nature of the problem is probably because it's related to scheduling of background processes. I really wish we could see detailed cpu stats on nom-rooted phones.

Thanks. That Play Protect stuff was also activated on my phone I noticed. However, I don't think it's Huawei that does it. Looks more like a standard Android thing, according to this link:

I'm going to try doing a factory reset of my phone after I back up everything. Something is still very screwed up about 50% of the time. I can't even zoom smoothly in Google maps anymore.

All fine for me with 10.1.0.245

Hello everyone,
I am glad to report that I have no trouble after updating to 10.1.0.245(C636E5R1P5) here in Germany.
Akku works normal with 58% and 1 hour display on after 3 days.
Phone responds faster and the speaker-volume is the same as it was before.
Call-recording has vanished as reported and taking hires pictures with the camera works a little different.
The Huawei-Browser is faster than chrome and gives me an all in all better experience.
Greetings Psykitt

Hopefully, this will be the last time I post lol, but I think I've finally found the real cause of the problem. After hooking up "adb logcat", I seeing that the "powergenie" app was spamming the log with thousands of crashes. It appears that is what was hogging all the background CPU.

All of the logcat spam disappeared and my phone has been running fast again for last few hours (fingers crossed that it lasts) after running:
`adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.huawei.powergenie`

So if anyone else has a slow phone, check the logcat first.

Looks like they forgot a tiny bit in that big-ass 10.1 update: today I got a small update of 8 kb in size, named "system parameters" ?

(The change log says it's for "performance improvements")

Do you think there is the possibility of updating the security component (the one that generally comes in the form of a patch) thus avoiding the update to 10.1? Thanks so much.
