Like the title, can the Dual SIM function be enabled on the US Unlocked version?

No, that would not be possible
1. Dual SIM devices have 2 IMEI numbers which each of them is assigned to each SIM slot on the device
2. You would need a different SIM tray since US model doesn't have a dual SIM tray it only has a 1 SIM 1 SD card tray
3. Even if you manage to get a tray with Dual SIM capability the device hardware most likely does not has the dual SIM pins inside, and even if it does is most likely useless since it does not have a second IMEI assigned to it.
That thread is about adding an SD card to a dual-SIM phone already using two SIM cards, which is not the question the OP is asking.
