AS flashtool does not work for 7.1.1 how to proceed to install nougat 7.1.1 and enable root and install twrp?
Inside the FlashTool data folder that contains all models, find yours (F81XX),
and while FlashTool is waiting for you to do something like Flash a ROM,
copy / paste the 39 (Marshmallow) script to 41 (Nougat).

Upon flash, confirm using the 41. script and the warning, and done.

I thought there was a more elaborate explanation on how to use flashtool, It's been a while since I used it. Is it an option to use Sony's flashtool to flash the new ftf (it seems it can handle an unlocked bootloader) and then continue for root and twrp?

  • I had to reinstall flashtool 0.9.23.2
  • copied the 39.fsc file to 41.fsc
  • I pressed Tools - bundles - create to create a n ftf file
  • I used the frech vesion of 41.2.A.2.223 to create an ftf file
  • Then I pressed the flash symbol with my phone already connected in flashmode
  • I selected the french FTF file to flash
  • Then I cannot get by the message reading device info
What to do to get the flash to continue?

I recreated the ftf fileand flashed again, the operation is almost directly done, nothing hs been flashed, the phone boots in its previous configuration, so no Nougat 7.1.1

Super user not found

I have flashed boot.img and the latest TWRP on to the system as instructed and I got OKAY in both the cases. But I am unable to go to a screen where I can install superuser. I tried holding the volume up and volume down during the reboot. But it is booting to the home screen always. How do i enter into that mode?

through adb root , adb shell I can see all the root folders (I am getting the # sign in the command indicating I am root.) But when execute "su", su is not not found is the error. I think this is because I did not install the super user. How do I do it?

PS: My device is Sony X Performance with Android 7.1.1 Build number :41.2.A.7.8 Kernel version :3.18.31-v24

Turn your phone off completely.
Wait 5 seconds.
Hold power and volume down.
Once the Sony logo comes up release power, then a few seconds later release volume down.
Profit.

First of all, thanks for the guide!
I did this procedure a couple of days ago and it worked perfectly!
I am trying to do it on a different Xperia X Performance (I unlocked the bootloader already) now however and it doesn't seem to work at all. I am doing everything from a mac, but that shouldn't be the problem.
After flashing boot.img and rebooting, I am stuck at the Sony screen (Black font). I can continue to flash the recovery and even enter it to install the kernel and supersu but when I reboot after that I'm back at the bootloop.
I have now tried it several times and restored my phone with the official flashtool each time but it looks like my phone won't be able to be rooted at all...

Any idea as to what could be the issue here? I really need to get rid of the bloatware :)
Sounds like you are flashing a kernel version thats not compatible with your software.
What software version and what kernel version are you using?

Now that you mention it, that might be exactly what's wrong. I'm on 7.0 and trying to flash AndroKernel V26. My other phone was on 7.1...
So should I update or use an older Kernel Version and then update?
Thats the issue. I would update to 7.1 then do root/recovery, otherwise you are flashing the 7.0 kernel for nothing as flashtool will overwrite it anyway ;).

where do i get matching boot.img from?

ist it just the file from the andro pluss kernel.zip?

I got me the right kernel v29 for the latest Firmware
Im on F8132_41.2.A.7.53_R1D_Thailand Generic_1304-6595

I managed to make TA backup on 6.0.1.
Update to latest FW.
Unlocked Bootloader. Install TWRP.

Where do i get right boot.img from ? Does it matter to be the right one from F8132_41.2.A.7.53_R1D Firmware. Or does yours simply work (your boot img is only compatible to v26 kernel?)

Thank you so much for you help !

By the time this f8132 is updated to Oreo I'll have the xz1. I don't think anyone is or will be doing anymore advance ments in kernel or rom's etc for f8132.
