I was able to get tethering up and running, but attempting to add 'WiFi Hotspot' to the quick panel settings proved impossible for me because SQLite kept throwing errors about 'Cannot open' when I attempted to access the settings DB.

Anyone have luck adding it as a quick panel icon?

Didn't even try that which would be nice. Im just using "HotSpot Toggle" from the playstore on my home screen.

What version of SQlite were you using? I just added WiFiHotspot to the quick panel without a problem using SQlite version 2.1, if you're using an older version that could be why your getting errors. uploadfromtaptalk1403242177275.jpg

the xposed tether module works after a reboot, and then a few minutes later it returns to provision check. I am on an unlimited plan fyi. I could never get it to stick. The wifi patch and script edit worked except for the quick tile, i repeated the last command seperately and then it too worked just like an above posted mentioned, it threw out some memory error non-sense, cleared the quick tiles and magically the WifiHotspot tile appeared available.

I too got permissions error on sqlite even after using the corrected run.sh script.

Who knows, its working now though just fine.

Here's the steps i took to get the WiFiHotspot icon using SQlite version 2.1. (1) Open SQlite and select "APPS". (2) Select "Settings storage" then select "Settings db. (3) select "System". (4) select "notification_panel_active_apps_list". (5) select the "pencil" icon on the top of the page. (6) write in WiFiHotspot ; at the end of the list. (7) click "Save" then back out and reboot. uploadfromtaptalk1403270957300.jpg

I know this might be a dumb question, but what program are you using to edit SQLIte ? I downloaded one from the Playstore and there is no apps area.

I used Sqlite editor v2.1 its a paid app. You probably installed SQlite manager which is a free app. uploadfromtaptalk1403407713776.jpg

Thanks, this worked - first try. I am replying on my tablet tethered to my phone which I can now control with a single tap of the icon. It was worth $2.99 to me.:good:

Are there other simple improvements to be made with this SQ editor?

Has anyone figured out the best way to enable the wifi tethering capability?

I know on the s4, all the roms came out with this feature, it seems the s5 is still not rooted yet, what is everyone using, exploit or app?

I'm on one of the standard share everything plans and just got my new S5 yesterday, after having a g'nexus with cyanogenmod for just that feature. Anyway the tether feature is built right in. To turn it on, choose "Settings", "More networks". Under there you'll find both tethering and mobile hotspot options. It does do the "authentication" check, but as long as you're not on an unlimited plan, it should let you right through.

There was a lawsuit last year that changed things. As a long time Verizon user, it surprised the heck out of me when I found the article today. And even more so when things just worked. As a new poster I can not post an outside link. Check out cnet slash news slash what-verizons-fcc-tethering-settlement-means-to-you-faq

Hope this helps!

I gave up the unlimited data plan and went with the Share Everything with 6gb of data. I did an analysis of my data usage for the past year and found that I never used more than 2gb a month. The unlimited talk and text is more important to me than unlimited data. Although I use the web quite a bit on the phone, I use wifi at home and at work, so it limits my 4G data usage substantially.
Verizon will eventually find a way to eliminate unlimited data altogether, or with some of the new Internet legislation being pushed throttle the bandwidth to the point that it's useless.
I don't understand what people are doing to use 30gb a month or higher unless you are using the plan as your home ISP service connecting multiple devices, or streaming movies all day long.
nobody gives a crap that your on a 6 gig plan if your not contributing to the tethering post goto > wherepeoplecare.

Which version of "HotSpot Toggle" ?
There are a couple by different developers.
Hotspot toggle by Mehdy Bohlool. Not using it anymore because i ended up just using Sqlite to install one in the quick panel but it worked good when i was using it.

I have a S5 phone rooted using towelroot and I'm having trouble getting tether to work. I downloaded the linked Xposed app and installed it. Then I went to the mobile Hotspot option in settings and it still does the provision check with Verizon and tells me to contact them. I'm kinda new to this and any help would be appreciated...was there something else I missed?

You should make sure that once you install Xposed that it's updated to latest version, then you need to add the 'X Tether' module. Go into Xposed, and go to Download, search 'X Tether' and download/install that.

Thanks, just came back to explain that I figured it out. I didn't realize that it was a module to the "Xposed installer "app. Downloaded that and selected the module, rebooted, and off we go.

Didn't see a thanks option...I'll hit it if I find it

*edit*found and thanks added

my tablet isn't finding my x tethered S5

Hey all! Long time reader, first time poster. Here's the deal. I am rooted, got xposed, downloaded x tether. When I went to the hotspot it worked no permissions or verification. Unfortunately my tablet isn't seeing whatever my S5 is putting out. It's an Asus Transformer pad Infinity. It used to connect to my GS3 with treve mod wifi tether just fine. I'll keep searching and fiddling around. I await your replies. :)
