Nope....I have never gone over my minutes or messages...so an unlimited everything (or just unlimited talk and text) is worthless to me. Obviously others mileage will vary.

I have been with Verizon for 13 years. I got the unlimited data smartphone plan when Verizon first came out with the HTC Thunderbolt and LTE. That was March of 2011 (I think) and Verizon did away with the unlimited data plan about 3 months later.

I just signed up with verizon in september 2011 and missed my chance to be grandfathered in for the unlimited data. A few co workers signed up in June and got in. Oh well, verizon is getting their money out of me regardless. Here's my data plan:

Nation Wide Talk and Text 450 $59.99/ I use about 200 minutes
Unlimited messaging $0.00/ 600 messages
10Gb Data plan $50.00./ I average about 9Gb of data a month
Total Equipment Coverage $7.99
Sub total $117.98 without tax
with 19% employer discount and tax included:

$106.01

Not bad, which is NOT unlimited but I'm happy with it :D

Ive started seeing the throttling, speed test will say 30+ download cant stream 480 p videos without constant buffering. Although i did download a large file and that was very fast. Selective throttling, ive seen it on youtube and netflix so far

They have already been throttling me. I can not even stream a youtube video without constant buffering. Been this way for awhile especially during peak hours.
Yep. I even connected to my vpn to test this. Amazingly, youtube then worked fine.

I'm currently trying to figure a way to keep my vpn connection active, as it keeps dropping after 1-3 minutes on the note 3. Appears to be a kitkat issue that should be resolved with an update.

Luckily I was given unlimited when I bought my note 3 as they screwed up two orders.

When they went to fix it their service team opened the account to where the customer service person had open acess to let my son and myself to stay unlimited. The csr didn't give that information over easily though.

I had already ordered t-mobile phones and was about to cancel with verizon.

So that might have had something to do with It...I'll be on the plan till 12/16!

Edit: I'll most likely end up getting throttled too...they make the rules...we have no choice but to follow...until someone bigger us (even though we pay their pensions and multi million dollar profits) steps in.

I just got a offer from verizon for a 18gb share plan for 35.00 less a month then I pay now.

I have nation wide family plan
1400min
Unlimited messaging
Unlimited nights and weekends

100.00 a month plan

(1) unlimited data line -47.85
(2) 2gb lines -47.85 x 2

Puts me about 243.00 a month for 3 lines.

Not sure of I should switch...18gb is pretty decent and I will not get throttled.
Depends on your situation...I personally couldn't take that deal, my kids use between 30-40gb a month each and I usually average around 50gb. All streaming and tethering to the ps4 or Xbox one.

I see but you do realize your days of streaming that much data are coming to an end right? you will be throttled back to the point there will do point in trying to stream anything video or game related.

I thought about taking this deal and applying the 35.00 a month savings towards a 50mb broadband connection.

Depends on how they consider "high demand areas" If I do get throttled I'm sure there's developers out their that know how to remove the throttle like they did for t-mobile variants.

To the grandfathered unlimited people who say you're currently getting throttled by vzw: How do you know you're being throttled versus general network congestion affecting everyone? Have you been with another vzw customer/phone who was getting much faster speed at the same time and place as you were getting unusually slow speed?

Or more generally I guess: How can you tell if you're being throttled as opposed to some other issue affecting speed at the moment?

He said he used a vpn connection and didn't have any issues with videos buffering. A vpn connection would make all data carried within it indistinguishable from any other data. It would draw the data from the Internet connection of the machine running the vpn server so you do have that limitation.

I have an OpenVPN server at my office and use the OpenVPN Connect app to connect to it. Never had a problem with it disconnecting, but it's a pain to get working properly. I also know that I have held a couple pretty long VoIP calls over the VPN while driving and it didn't seem to have an issue with IP's changing between towers or anything.

Correct.

Thanks. Currently working on setting up an openvpn server. But like you said, it's kind of a pain.

Apparently the issue with my router's built in vpn has something to do with going from ipv6 to ipv4. Confirmed by connecting over 3G and it does stay alive. It appears openvpn should work fine with LTE.

You'll get it figured out after about a week of trial and error and a hundred poorly written tutorials off Google. If you get in a jam, pm me and I can offer what I know.

Maybe time to dump Verizon, their data is kind of slow than before in the last a couple week. I used to get around 40-50mbps download speed at home, now I get around 12-15mbps, big difference. Maybe time to switch to t-mobile which is much cheaper.

Got it. This guide is is pretty spot on. Just run everything as administrator.

Hmm...vpn still dropping sometimes. We'll see. It's up and running for now anyways, and it auto-reconnects at least. It actually looks like it's happening when the radio goes idle, which it does often - for power saving purposes I would think.

I was about to buy an unlimited data offer on ebay, I might still do it cause I use a lot of data. I hope this scare tactic does't change the usage of unlimited data users. Hey, it's your account, it's your data and we should do what we like. If Verizon doesn't like us using they're unlimited data and to bad. It is what it is, they should force out then :D

Humm..an unlimited data offer on eBay? I didn't think you could transfer ownership of an account. I'm not sure one way or the other. Just be careful it's not a scam.

I'm treading carefully in this venture, hoping I can still cash on unlimited data, despite however it might be throttled :D

I highly recommend everyone go to the FCC website and send the chairman a email saying you support his move to block Verizon from throttling unlimited data plans. He's our only real hope now so the more emails he gets the better our chances
