New build with May security patches

New build available for download (regular 'microG' build):
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=818222786056032289

  • Security string 2018-05-05
  • Squid kernel r22c with few addl. ASB patches
  • Android System Webview M66

Regarding 'Substratum' - I haven't received any feedback regarding my recent test build, so I did not (yet) make a substratum-enabled build...

Finally downloaded your OMS build. I can confirm it it is working, tested with Spectrum substratum theme.

ROM is working as expected so far.
I will definitely be using your ROM as my daily driver. This ROM is the best microg ROM currently available.

Can you compile an OMS build with the latest security patches?

Many thanks for your work.

Once I get confirmation/feedback, that all is OK, I'll also link it in the OP.

The only problem is that some apps notify me that they require Google Services and to function Google services must be updated.

This is a microg issue that has been solved by a microg fork called Nogoolag. It is available on github.

Are you aware of this issue? While I can use the nogoolag version of microg, I do not know if it has the same security hardening features that your version has.

Will download new version and report back tomorrow. ?

Yes, I know that some apps cause such issues right now, this has already been reported in several issues in microg at github, so waiting for the developers to fix it.
I include the microG binaries and apk's as prebuilts, the other security hardening features are code changes in various AOSP/LineageOS based repositories, so independent from microG.
Therefore, if you would like to flash the Nogoolag stuff over my build, that should be okay (I however prefer to stick to the "original" microG stuff in my build)

I have dirty flashed the latest OMS build you provided and have not encountered any problems so far.

I will be using your OMS microg builds as my daily driver.

Many thanks for providing an OMS microg build with the latest security updates.

Hey, great job with the rom.
I have been testing for the past two days and so far so good. The OMS support makes it even more functional.
The only issue I have been facing is the occurrence of ghost touches. But I'm yet to confirm the culprit. Could be the overlay issue or some rogue xposed module I use.
But overall its a great work.
Thank you so much.

@MSe1969 - Flashed your microG OMS hardened build on my Osprey today and it's been runing flawlessly ever since. I appreciate it a lot!
@jemail - When you are installing Substratum themes, what option do you choose to apply the layers? Android 7 - Lineage or OMS? I tried Lineage and it said it had some errors, though most applications happen to display the theme with no major problem.

Wasn't aware there was a choice of theme install methods. So I guess I used the default choice whatever that was. I don't recall any errors in log char. As spectrum has been updated when I redo the theme installation I'll see if both methods install and report back.

This ROM is my daily driver as it is very stable and reliable, haven't experienced any ghost touch problems so far.

Spectrum does look great - I should get it if it ever gets free or a discounted price. I myself run Swift Black. It is weird that you didn't know there's an option to choose the appropiate layer based on what your system is running. There's Lineage, OMS, Samsung and I believe one or two other layers. One is asked to select any before proceeding. I did Lineage with Swift Black and though it came back to me with 'some errors', the system as a whole, looks quite dark UI. :D

I agree with you on this ROM being a daily driver - rock stable and snappy. @MSe1969 - thank you very much for your efforts keeping us up-to-date on Lineage. I hope OMS keeps receiving love in the future releases.

I realized I flashed Squid kernel over and OP states it currently has a fork of Squid's build with more recent patches. Is there a way anybody can provide me with the default kernel of this ROM for me to flash, please?
@MSe1969 - By no means asking for ETA, just a random question on the table. When a new update is released, could I perform a dirty flash? (Wipe dalvik cache, cache and flash ROM build.)

The kernel of a ROM Zip is the file boot.img, which needs to be extracted. You can then flash it using TWRP (image flash) or via fastboot. If you simply want to use my fork of squid kernel, simply dirty-flash my ROM again. And in general, if you update my ROM, you can in general always dirty-flash, BUT -and here be careful- with regards to compiled/overlaid themes, I think you would first have to revert all of this, before you can dirty-flash. The respective XDA threads for Substratum/OMS should have more information.

Wrt June ASB patches, I'll start tonight to push patches to the LineageOS Gerrit (hope my account issue there has been solved), if I find the time.

New release with June ASB Sec. Patches, part 1

Hi all,

a new build (regular 'microG build' - the substratum-enabled one is still being worked on) with June security patches is available for download:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=674106145207492327

Will update the OP and post an update here, when the OMS build is ready, too.
Regards, M.

I think you should be using OMS with this build now. As lineage or legacy will be used only when there is no OMS support built into the ROM.

@ajaysingh23 - Thanks for your input. Unfortunately I first was trying Lineage instead of OMS when applying the layers with Substratum. After reading your reply, I selected all the layers and disabled. Enabled back with OMS and continued... I'm afraid somehow the system UI is broken because at times I face not too often freezes of the system as in, perhaps the application I'm launching gets stuck trying to run and after few seconds, phone reboots itself. The Motorola logo does not appear, it is Lineage OS logo right away, which, if my past Android experience respond correctly, is an indication the problem is located in the ROM, not the kernel. I'm not implying @MSe1969's build is faulty - it was clearly the mistake applying the Substratum layers at first...

Up to this point, I guess regardless of disabling and enabling with the right option will not serve of help. I'd need to perform a clean install and make sure it is OMS instead of Lineage if I decide to use Substratum. There's no a more aggressive approach towards deleting the layers entirely, is there? I'm open to wait till July's build - we are close to it. :p

Besides that random reboot every so often, the ROM is smooth and I love the fact F-Droid installs updates and new .apk files without the user having to tap the 'Install' or 'Update' button. Again: thanks for your work!
