Hello,
I´m facing problems with rooting my Tablet SM-T-580 (Wifi Model) with Magisk or SuperSu through TWRP.
Im using newest TWRP 3.2.3-4-gtaxlwifi-OMNI6.
I did the following steps through TWRP (needed files are stored on USB OTG):
Format data = yes.
Did full wipe (everything exept USB OTG).
Reboot into Recovery.
Install Rom --> ULTRA LEAN OREO V11 for SM-T585.
Wipe Cache/Dalvik.
Install Magisk v18.1 or SuperSu v2.82 [ because In the first post it says under "EXTRAS": "2. Download : SuperSU 2.82 (With DATA Encryption)" ]
Wipe Cache/Dalvik.
Everything went through successfully --> No errors at all.
Reboot System.
--> Titanium Backup says: No Root permission.
Now I need your help:
1) What did I do wrong?
2) How do I root my Tablet successfully? Which tool do I have to use, Magisk or SuperSu?
It would be nice to get it working
Many thanks in advance.

Finally I localised the problem. Don´t know why, but with older Android versions the rom flashing and root installation routine described as above always worked. Did that with various phones and tablets. But for some reason with A8-Oreo and A9-Pie it will only work the following way (All needed files are stored on USB and connected via USB OTG):
- Open Bootloader and Install latest TWRP via Odin
- Boot into TWRP
- in TWRP --> Wipe --> Format data = yes
- in TWRP --> Advanced Wipe --> I clicked and deleted everything except the files needed on the USB OTG
- Now Reboot Recovery
- in TWRP --> Install --> Select Storage and Install (Custom) Rom
- Reboot System (will take a while on first bootup) and setup WiFi
--------
- ONLY if needed: - Turn off and boot into TWRP again --> Install --> Select Storage and Install OpenGapps (1. make sure you get the right one: 32 or 64 Bit Processor; 2. check Compatibility to your (Custom-) Rom --> chose right Android version; 3. Take the package size you want --> I always use the bare minumum which is "Pico" Package)
- Wipe Cache/Dalvik
- Reboot System and go through the installation routine and register your Google Account
--------
- Reboot System
--------
- ONLY if needed: Install latest official Magisk Manager ( APK file !! )
- Reboot into Recovery
- in TWRP --> Install --> Select Storage and install latest official Magisk ( ZIP file !! )
- Reboot System
--> Voila: All done. Root permission granted
- if you want, double check root status with one of the following apps: Magisk Manager, Root checker, Titanium Backup
The above installation routine worked very well for me. I hope, someone else can use this too.
Have a good day
