I heard it is possible to clone the MAC address on Epic touch so you can use the cellphone with Freedompop wimax. Has anybody tried that on Evo V or Evo 3D? Is it at all possible?

TIA

Any luck with this? Seems to be within the exception to DMCA. Hacking device to allow compatibility with another network.
Provided the Evo3d, V completed the contract or paid the ETF.
Just have to spoof the wimax mac address right? I wonder if it's an allocated range you have to get within or if you need a donor device (perhaps a shattered screen evo design?)???

It pisses me off and is clearly anticompetitive monopolistic anti-american isht that Clear won't activate an out of contract evo 4g or evo 3d. When these were through sprint, they used the CLEAR towers. The Wimax is 100% compatible. Clear doesn't want to compete and now that Sprint owns a controlling interest in them, there's no need to compete. Same with Freedompop - their wimax portion would work just fine with evo 3d and 4g... they are mvno'ing sprint/clearwire wimax. Such bull****. Class action qui tam? Unfair competition, Sherman antitrust, lanham act violations??? Sick and tired of these carrier cartels.

I just need to figure out how to make the wimax mac stick and I think I have found a way

Update: I have not found a way to make the mac stick. All you have to do is dial ##3283# then press edit thne put in your MSL then press wimax then press "Realm" then change it to 'freedompop.com', then go back to NAI and change it to you freedompop device's wimax MAC followed by '@freedompop.com', then presss commit. If it sticks, you have WIMAX on your evo

Hell yeah!!!! Wonder if you could forward this to @Freedompop4G to help them??? they've officially announced sanctioned use of old sprint phones finally (whereas Clear is still being an enabling little *****). But, even where Freedompop claims to offer byod evo3d (evo 4G IS working byod), evo3d keeps showing unsupported on their freedompop.com/byod activate page. Driving me furious. They say "Dev team" is working on it but won't give a time frame. Really CANNOT wait until Chairman Wheeler @fcc starts kicking some ass and asking tough questions of sprint and the other cartels. So if they really are working on getting sprint phones (wimax) to work but they are just having a difficult time on the tech side, perhaps your solution will help them? IMHO :)

Menu/Commit the answer?

I am running brad560's Sprint Updated version 3 Final custom ROM on a sprint htc EVO with freedompop. I have been able to get the wimax settings to stick in the ##DATA# screen, by pressing the MENU button and choosing "COMMIT". The phone then reboots and the NAI changes stick!

I have not, however, gotten 4g WiMax to work, despite the progress above.

The custom ROM does, however, let me use the EVO as a hotspot on 3g service!
