EVR-AL00 root situation

@antiochasyylum what is your two cents on AL00 getting root? I ask because if root possible, we could in theory get Google apps to work properly like on L29.
And, if I could find definitively, any information on if AL00 truly has the same bands as L29 then no one would buy the more expensive L29 and simply get the AL00 assuming root was possible for AL00.
What are your thoughts?
I would still buy the more expensive global version, I don't like those Chinese roms !

Well, imagine if both had root but similar price points like they do now where the AL00 is priced much cheaper.
We could easily buy AL00 flash L29 and save all that money.
This of course assuming they are literally the same hardware and antenna bands. I still can't find any definitive answer on Google search if they are the same hardware or not for bands

I'm going to go out on a limb with this and say yes to the antenna bands are the same, normally from past experience the bands are turned on or off based on software, but normally both phones will have the same bands, as for the rest of the hardware can be different or different revisions. Omitting the large 8/256, both 6/128GB for the most part should (keyword "should") be the same. But obviously something is different because one's ID is AL00 and the other is L29 which is embedded in mobo, which would be where the change can be and probably is different. which is why the L29 build.prop would have to reflect AL00 for it to work.

But thats a hunch based on past HTC experiences.

they are the same

from experience (mi mix had a huge following on this and it went nowhere, bands are controlled by many other things like antenna interface-folks kept thinking an SOC would somehow provide all bands that they were just switchable-they aren't-the only band ever turned on on some devices has been say like a band 20 for Europe on some devices-recall (even opened these to look) Samsung's Latin American devices (with an "M") had different motherboard components versus say the European or Asian counterparts (The M versions have u.s bands-go figure but not the U.S or Central American versions for the tab series)

anyway, they are the same in this case (have used both in U.S)

I made a root 2 days ago through TWRP
freeza is nothing to do with!

@Joker2010 - congrats on the self root method. However root its self has been available and in use on select devices for over a month. I personally have had root on my L29 since the day after .172 was released.

Topjohnwu shared the method on Twitter a while back. However just pushed it to Canary builds.

Again congrats. It's a community here, however credit must go to @freeza for collecting and publishing everything for us.

I do not detract from the merits of the @freeza on popularizing the receipt of the root
But his method, like mine, is based on the new Magisk-v18.1
Without this, getting a full root would be impossible!
Root, obtained in such a way as now climbs into the sdd42 section, i.e. recovery_ramdisk_a -> / dev / block / sdd42
In other words: either root or TWRP, they don’t live together yet ...
And even stock recovery stops working, I think!
I don’t know if OTA updates will come now

I was rooted on 17.xx :cowboy:.

Either way, it doesn't matter, we have Root. End of debate. :good:

How did you root without loader unlock - now OEM has ceased to provide codes. The pay-for services should be avoided for making revenue out of community efforts - the demand just perpetuatues their work. I'm a dev albeit windows/linux but can help if needed with loader unlock , how far have you all got ? I own an AL00. What forum/group/twitter do you want me to join ? What I would also say is that once a cut mod is flashed then obvs the updates will stop. From experience Chinese phones are OTAd regularly so I tend to keep the ROM but use adb to uninstall unwanted chinese crap then install specific gapps and framework + keyboard etc. On occasion Ive modded the stock ROM to take out the crap, rebuilt and flashed the partitions with adb or the entire ROM with Odin. Of course future OTAs overwrite all this but it can be scripted using PowerShell on Win or easier on Linux. L29 unlikely to see much work going forward so why bother ??

So, just to be clear, there is no way I can currently unlock my EVR-AL00, right? I didn't get a global version, because they were too expensive to re-import back into China.......... where I am based.

The two services I have found via other people's posts: global-unlocking-solutions and funky Huawei. Are they no longer able to access the unlock code.

Do I need the unlock code to remove Huawei launcher or other apps via ADB? I don't think so, I will go study up now - I wonder if this is the only way I can add a launcher like Nova. I have time now during CNY to mess around with the phone a little, but will need it functioning and working smoothly when I return to work.

Maybe I just need to suck it up and use EMUI... Now I feel a little like an Iphone user. OMG.

Still have a lot of love for this phone though.

I sent a question to a site global-unlocking-solutions.miiduu.com are they could unlock the bootloader on a Huawei mate 20 X. The answer was that they are working on the issue and should be checked frequently on their development site.
I suggest more people to query the various sites that offered unlocking to generate big interest in this issue and may be this will speed up the unlock solution!

FunkyHuawei is selling unlock codes again for $146 USD.
imei.by from Belarus are selling the same codes for 2000 Russian rubles ($31).
I've already got my code from them, but have not tried the unlock yet.

I can't believe I'm paying this much for unlock code.
36USD for me.. I did it, I hope this gets justified immediately with all the advantages of having a rooted device.

Damn! that was fast, I got the code in less than 5mins... not even 3!!

I paid around $16 from ministry, including PayPal fees. Will try the unlock code later and feedback. Very quick response, minutes.
Do you have a EVR-L29? or AL00?
Where can we find ministry?
What are your thoughts today (since you posted about this)
Do you still get OTA updates even though it's rooted?
Are you able to use TWRP?

That's a reasonable price considering the extortionate prices of codes these days which should be free

If Huawei wasn't the only manufacturer making a 7.2" phone with a flagship professor and amoled screen I wouldn't have ordered but unfortunately there is nobody else

I would have went with Xiaomi mi max 4 pro but unfortunately they've decided to keep it midrange

If they launched one with amoled and Snapdragon 855 I would have preferred that instead

This paying for unlock code for your own expensive device is bullshit that needs to be stamped out

Well Hawaii aren't offering unlock codes period. That's a security decision they've made. It's people who are getting codes unofficially. But I have to admit, with the support for custom ROMs, it was well worth unlocking. First I went to EMUI 9.1 beta custom ROM, globalised. It is very good, smooth and fast.

Now I'm on rr ROM, and loving all the customisability. On the go mode is my favourite. The sound and screen aren't as optimised (good) as on EMUI ROMs, so I will need to play around with them. For example, no automatic hdr mode when playing Netflix or YouTube or other content. Considering that's why you have this phone, for the multimedia, that's a big trade off. I'm sure someone will come up with a fix though.

Ministry of Solutions. But as far as I know, you can't get any unlock codes right now. I have AL00 phone. I'm running RR ROM right now.
