Extended battery

I bought the extended battery thinking I'd stand it fugly-ness. It worked very well and I got a lot of use throughout the day but it was just too uncomfortable for me. I dunno why but I just can't grip it in a comfortable position, I think I might just get an extra standard battery.

I will probably get flamed for posting this, just because people are so fiercely divided on issues like extended batteries.

I'm going to put my opinion out there for anyone on the fence though...it might help.

I ordered with my corporate discount...ever since the extended battery showed up, I knew I had to have one. I was pleasantly surprised that the ordering system let me add one to my basket when I got my phone. For $35 bucks, this thing could be pure crap, and I probably wouldn't shed a tear.

Sure enough, there it was when my overnight package showed up. I never even bothered with the original battery or battery door. Popped it in, plugged it up...yeah, the charge time seemed excessive, but beyond that, there I was with my brand new phone.

Now I live in Dallas, so I immediately went to the actual speedtest website in the browser and rocked some 4G...it seems like there is going to be some nice utility there.

Then I got in my car and drove to Austin for SXSW...and here I am at work on Monday, and I'm at 27%...haven't charged once.

The moral of the story, in case you aren't aware, is that Austin is not an LTE market.

I can't speak for 4G, because no one can. You and I are both early adopters. This may be the price we pay for being in the front row. Did you really expect sunshine and roses? I'm guessing these devices won't see acceptable thresholds of juice until we are running custom firmware...guys...that's why you got the HTC in the first place and not the Atrix...

That's why Verizon is forking over unlimited 4G when they admitted that tiered plans will be here as early as May...that's the price of admission.

So let me make a recommendation that I don't consider bold at all.

If you are in a 3G market and have problems with the battery life, cast aside a little vanity and double your battery life...the extended battery will probably be one of the best price/performance ratio purchases you make this year.

If you are in a 4G market and are unwilling to sacrifice an extra quarter centimeter of depth on your phone to double your battery life on a device that was rumored to have suboptimal battery life long before it launched...

Ain't that 14 day return window grand!

Seriously, does the extended battery door REALLY make a difference to you?

If you answered yes, good news...I heard Verizon just got last year's iPhone 4 in, and it's a very slim device.

EDIT:

Would like a case that fits (my only gripe), but that's how the cookie crumbles.
Thanks for the dose of common sense!

There is a 1600mAh battery

Did anyone else see on Amazon (sorry, can't post links yet) and Newegg that Seidio has a 1600 battery for the TB (I guess it fits the TMo myTouch too)? That's not much better than the 1400 that it comes with, but might get you an extra hour or two and you don't need to have that huge battery on the back.

I'm hoping for an 1800 battery that doesn't add any or very little bulk. Fingers crossed I guess.

I got mine in the mail yesterday and it's not as bad as the pictures make it out to be. It does add size and weight but I think over all a negligible amount. Just need a case, but my holster from the Droid X works fine for now, just not the back plate.

For $35 with corp discount, the extended battery is well worth it. The size is perfectly fine to me.

With this initial HTC kernel, it already lasts a full day, and is just like how my extended battery was on the inc after voltage mods. Once HAVS and modified kernels start popping up, it will last even longer.

i agree, the pics floating around make it look horrible! and it really is not taht bad. adds amybe a 1/4 of an inch if that to the size in back. besides my stock rubber cases sides bowing a lil, my stock case actually fits with the extended battery in... so obviously its not that big.

I'm curious if the new evo 3d's 1730mah battery will fit it looked similar sized
Wouldn't that be something if yet again, the Evo battery worked in the verizon phone, and had that extra capacity. Makes you think that Verizon might want to sell those big 2700+ fat-batteries..

Just a quick update, since I've had the extended battery for about a week now.

Additional battery life or not, I'm getting dismal battery life on 4G either way...and if I had to compare it to anything, it would be to an LG Optimus on stock firmware...if that means anything to anyone.

When you get CM7 cooking on that device the difference is night and day. I'm hoping to see a similar turn-around here.

With that said, that is a phone that is out there in the mainstream that millions of people use every day and don't complain about. The Thunderbolt is getting a bad rap for something a lot of other phone manufacturers don't mind doing...sticking the end user with a bum deal to save a few bucks on the battery and shave the device thickness.

To some extent it's a sin, but on the other hand, I'm just glad this isn't the HTC Inspire and I'm not stuck with no recourse.

I foresee great gains in battery life will be made with good custom ROMs and updates to applications like Juice Defender. At which point my extended battery will do what I bought it for: doubling my device's life, rather than making it get me through the day.

I was happy to read similarly positive viewpoints on the new battery door's form factor in this thread. After a week has gone by, I can confirm, I wholeheartedly recommend the purchase...In fact, if Seidio comes out with an even bigger battery like ~3,500 mAh I will probably buy that too.

I hunt for a case for the phone every day. I will be sure to post here as soon as I find something that works.

Right now, I am scratching my head as to why they would not offer something like this. It will just be a waiting game.

For now I got the ZAGG screen protector and I am pretty impressed with the quality.

Pros:
It offers really good protection.
It seems to have an airtight fit if you apply it correctly.
It doesn't appear to be very picky about whether I just throw it in my pocket.

Cons:
Expensive.
The texture of this screen protector is not for everyone as it can be "Sticky"

Thoughts:
Your skin's natural oils seem to make fingers glide a bit better over time.
Lighter strokes don't tend to create as much friction...the phone is very responsive.

After a close call with the bootloader, I think the Thunderbolt has a rich Dev future ahead of itself. Can't wait to see what kind of performance the first custom kernels will yield!

I gave in and got the Extended Battery at Verizon and an extra rubber case to cut up...

I flew to Houston for a one day class and that 4G ate the battery up... I wanted the extended battery for travel.

Here are some pics. Notice that my DINC (Also cut a rubber case) has the same fatness as the TBolt with the extended batteries. I think I can live with the battery as is not too bad at all.

Got my seidio battery charger adapter for the TBolt. Sure Wish they made the battery same as the DINC... But then they could not sell us all new
stuff. :D:eek::rolleyes:

Glad to hear you are getting good results with the extended battery. I Think I will be happy with it...

The TBolt is a large phone anyway the battery does not add that much to it. Just wish it was a smooth back like the evo extended battery is.

It's like Verizon gets the hand me down crap... LOL :p

I am having an issue with my extended battery....

Not sure if this was addressed elsewhere in this thread.

My battery will sit at 100% for far too long. I think it is thinking that I have the old battery installed still.

Is there a way to fix this?

I honestly am very happy with the extended battery and like the extra size. It feels like it gives a little extra notch and makes it easy to grip on to. Battery life test will be conducted today.
