What you mean exactly by replicate? Every button and stick funcion can be remapped.

I don't have an xbox controller but I imagine that the kernel has the gamepad modules so if you are rooted it should work. If you are not rooted this is also possible but I would need a data capture so I can include it on the next release.

Yes I am rooted and I have PS3 and Xbox 360 wireless controller (with the usb receiver).

Let me explain exactly the problem:

For example if I use the PS3 wirelessly I have to use the sixaxis controller app and it can be used as a standard bluetooth HID controller.

The problem is that all buttons work fine even D-PAD ones but only with android interface or android games. The problem starts with the PC-Streaming games. D-PAD buttons don't work and many modern games need these buttons for extra functions.

It's possible they will resolve it with the next update, but I'm just curious if this problem can be resolved now...

I'm a technical lead on SHIELD at NVIDIA. :) So yes, they did say that. I had to get details from management about what I could say before I could make any official statement about improved controller support.
Hello sir! Can you confirm at all weather or not an Xbox 360 controller will work fully with game streaming with the next update? Or do I need to buy the Nyko controller / a bluetooth controller in general?

Onlive Controller

I use an OnLive controller. I haven't tried the XBox 360 Wireless dongle, but Bluetooth works great. If you're looking for a controller that has similar build quality and characteristics, I strongly recommend the OnLive one, even without the service (I don't have the service, just the control).

I'll give the dpad a try this weekend and verify it works on my SHIELD though, since I haven't tested that extensively.
Did you use the original Onlive controller or order a secondary? I have the one that came with the system and I could not get the Shield to recognize it. Apparently, the secondary controllers interface with the onlive system in a different way than the one that comes with the system. The secondary controllers only interface with a usb dongle.

i have the following controllers

PS3 controller
360 controller
OnLive Controller
OnLive Universal controller
Nyko Playpad Pro controller
Logitech controller

aper from the obvious problem with most of these controllers having issues with the dpad but the OnLive Universal controller works really great except from being very poor with when connected using bluetooth the signal goes extremely poor in performance but connected with usb its works flawless

i have only had the nyko for a day so will be able to tell how it performs within the next few hours of testing

So you have been using universal... I could get nothing out of the original Onlive controller as they will not link up directly. I could use usb, but the d-pad thing stinks. I'm also too afraid to root mine just yet, so the 6 axis app is out. I think I'm taking the easy route and trying the Nyko. It looks like Gamestop is trying to unload these quick. They're about $15 cheaper than the Nyko advertised price.

the nyko performs the worst :(

terrible lag, controls don't work correctly even after re-mapping. i just want Nvidia to work on getting 360/ps3 controllers working with the shield as the nyko play pad pro is utter crap!

also nyko controllers can't be updated using there app so users like myself are having to send out controllers to nyko for them to update the firmware on the controllers manually and so far i have waited 2 weeks with no reply on a shipping label :(:(:(

i swiched back to using the universal onlive controller and damn i played a good 4 hours straight on DMC with my nvidia shield hooked up using mini hdmi to hdmi in console mode and it works close to perfect, even alot of the time i forgot it was being streamed from my pc to my Samsung 55UED8000

i highly recommend the onlive universal controller for a companion controller to go with the nvidia shield, the nyko controller how been a huge letdown and to think of all the issues with the nyko being unable to be updated to latest firmware seriously i sugguest staying away from nyko products, i do not know what the hell Nvidia were thinking when they decided to partner with them, they should work with onlive imo as the onlive controller works flawlessly

For the Nyko there is a specific firmware update app for the Shield. Doesn't it work for you? If not you could update the firmware if you can access an Android 4.1 device.

almost every controller works with the shield pc streaming all that you need to do is
go to the root dir system/user/keylayout/
edit the values of the key you want either generic.kbl or specific controller .kbl file.

This has been discussed in these forums and is only for advanced users, in case anyone wanted to know.

Anyone knows wether any of Bluetooth Controllers has good build quality and what about their battery life? I am more concerned to play games in living room streaming from my PC which is located in Bedroom. Thanks.

With the onlive universal, the Bluetooth connectivity is poor but its good with USB? So that's with an otg cable and USB receiver? I bought the nyko pro pad, was able to update it through all that jb 4.1 crap and it still performs horribly. The triggers don't won't and there is terrible lag and the joysticks squeak after 30 mins of use. The shield is an amazing device but getting the best out of console mode is tough with all the controller issues. I'm still debating whether or not to get the onlive or ps3 with sixaxis

Trying to revive this post - I'm having exactly the same issue, with exactly the same setup as Conan.

Hi there,

I almost have it, but not 100%.

HDMI works
Ethernet works
USB hub works
Xbox controller works but D-pad does not, and that is frustrating, because every other button works fine and it's a joy to lie in my sofa to play that way. Some games need the D-pad and because of that this is not a solution.
Need my D-Pad for Dark Souls! Sadness abounds!

The PS3 controller works now if paired with bluetooth via sixaxis app. You need to use limelight however, in sixaxis app, enable the native gamepad option and it should work without any issues.

Hi there, I pre ordered the nvidia wireless gamepad. Sadly it's the only true wireless quality option without rooting (I did try the PS3 gamepad but I prefer the Xbox controller).

The Moga hero power is good too but it's expensive and again it's not exactly at the same level of the Xbox...

And I did try yesterday my wireless Xbox controller again after the new update of geforce experience just in case they remember to fix the Dpad issue, but they didn't...

I'll try again 4th of August with the incoming shield firmware update, but I don't have big hopes.

At least the new Nvidia controller looks really, really great.

I've been playing with a wired Xbox controller the last months and I really want to get rid of cables!

I don't know about you guys, but fortunately my PC setup is close to my 51" living room screen, within about 15' of each other. I tested playing Trine (Steam version) on my tv via the Shield console mode where I had multiple Xbox 360 controllers hooked up to to my PC via one Xbox Wireless receiver. Worked great. No need to buy additional Android controllers or root my Shield or use a micro usb adapter for my Xbox 360 controllers!

My nvidia controller arrived today. The build quality is solid. Sadly I can't really test it out as I soft-bricked my shield messing around with root. However, I can see bumping into the software buttons on the front when gaming intensifies. Over all I'm pleased. I'll let you know how it plays once the stock roms are posted to nvidia's site.

I have also just updated my Nyko Playpad Pro and it works flawless! Dpad support and fully functional! No loss of connection and no LAGG

Link to page. I tried searching around and couldn't find anything for editing the. Kl file fit the dpad if a ps3 controller
