Exynos Note 8 models are (probably) all dual SIM hardware - see pic

I doubt it is going to be as easy as just popping in 2 active sim cards but it would be nice, but since hardware and software is the same on F and F-Duos there have to be a way to apply a second imei from and old phone.
I'm familiar with root and flashing etc. but modifying system libraries is a bit out my depth at the moment, I'll try and learn but I'm sure you can F.. up royal if you don't know what you are doing and a note 8 is a fairly expensive device to use for training purposes :)

On my N950U1 (Snapdragon US Samsung unlocked, non-dual SIM), using Shortcut Master app, I found the working dual sim menu. See attached ss.
So also SD Notes could be dual sim capable.
hahah yeah that's honestly probably an easier fix than this wifi calling has been.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but are my understanding correct that the information we need between single and dual sim version for conversion from single to dual is already available under developer options but as view only, to get edit rights then root is needed first but also the correct file editor?

Where did it say that information was available in developer options?

Did you order the dual sim tray after you changed the files of your Note 8 to that of dual sim firmware? do you have any progress info that is if you are working on it? so after making your note 8 dual sim mode, does *#06# shows two imei window or just a single imei window?

I have been looking at the things online, but the one with changing s7 to dual sim shows cloning sim 1 imei to sim 2 and I don't think thats a good idea to have two sim running on same imei. i don't mind having one of them inactive if necessary but i am looking to see if there is imei available.

No, I have no use for dual-SIM. I posted the picture here to show that most likely all Exynos Note 8's are the same hardware, so the only difference between a dual-SIM model and a single-SIM model is the software. When I flashed a 950F-based ROM on my 950N, it did act like it was a dual-SIM phone, though I don't have a dual-SIM tray nor knowledge of how to add the 2nd IMEI into the EFS partition.

I see. Adding Imei is not possible i guess, because i read somewhere that every imei from note 7 or s7 is hardware id based so can only have the particular imei. i dont want to get into hassle of changing imei anyway. not sure whether its legal here or not, but i would like to stay as far as possible from it. better to not mess with it at all. If only dual tray is compatible with the note 8 with manual changing of active sim would be fine by me. i just want the 256gb of note 8 just because i would like to use dual sim without changing sim often and without having storage problem.

@ishanism
from what I read you can enable the access in developer options and then access via adb on a Windows computer but the phone will need root.
of course I forgot to save the step by step instructions for that yesterday but just google adb and root and you should find some how2 stuff.
I'm not attempting anything just yet, more learning to do first :)

I got the spare dual sim tray and sim 1 seems to be the default it reads first, tried with 2 active sim cards at the same time, however, with an inactive sim in tray 1 it still reads the active one in tray 2 and phone works.
so obviously it is about how to assign a second imei number

I haven't been able to try anything deeper yet as I'm a bit reluctant to root my single sim until my dual sim gets updates, it is still on august security patch etc.
I do know I could flash latest firmware myself but just don't think I should have to do that

i have an idea on it, but this won't assign a new second imei, you will get same IMEI for both sim 1 and sim 2 due to the hardware restriction of imei in new samsung phones. you will have to look at it yourself, or we can talk elsewhere, as I think anything related to IMEI is banned here in XDA. And I only have an idea, i am not sure it will work or not. So if you want to take the risk of modifying your efs partition, i can point you where to look but remember there is still the risk of your IMEI getting blacklisted because two sims will be using the same imei.

EDIT: wait when your tray 2 sim is activated, is the imei number same or different? because if it's different then there is every chance that there will be 2 imeis in every phone and it's just a matter of modifying your efs to enable both imei

yes it is only showing 1 imei but both slots work.
I wouldn't even attempt to duplicate the imei for both slots as I'm it would get blacklisted very quick.
IF... I was to try, I would use the imei from one of the old Samsung phones I have lying around but someone on another forum did mention it might be illegal so I'll look into that, not a 100% sure if it is only if you duplicate or make up a randon one, I mean if I own and paid for the phone I would take the number from.
However, I did end up with both a dual and a single sim so I wouldn't bother if it's not legal, it's just pure interest really

let me double check if it is showing up same imei when using the second slot, but I'm nearly sure it was

the imeis of dual sim normally differ only in the last 2-4 digits.
if it is different for tray 1 and 2 then we might be able to enable 2nd imei. else we have to say goodbye to dual sim as the imeis are encrypted and signed by samsung using hardware ids so it will be 99.99999999% impossible to get the compatible IMEI.

Hello .. I do not know if it can be useful .. I found a way to permanently activate in the phone settings the part about the selection of the double sim 1 & 2 ... the path is (root of the phone / Efs / factory.prop.. ... With root explorer use editor to change (ro.multisim.simslotcount = 1 / ro.multisim.simslotcount = 2) is restarting the phone ... The problem is that doing so the phone will be formatted with the factory setting ... I do not know if it can be useful and if you could try to see if they work the 2 sim online with just one imei ... If that works it would be amazing and I would buy the slot for the double sim .. Thanks a lot .. I wait for your answer .... Sorry for the language but it is not my native language

The file /efs/factory.prop is automatically generate from note 8 at reboot reading the nv_ram.bin file if you modify the file with editor and reboot is automatically set to 1. the /efs/factory.prop is included in /system/ build.prop. if you modify this file and put # to import /efs/factory.prop also if radio process modify to 1 the value the system set it to 2 and multi slot work perfect but the second imei = 000000000 and not work.

The unique possibility are:

1) edit nv_ram.bin and set the second imei
2) copy other nv_ram.bin from other dual sim phone
3) pay online service to set it but i not found nothing only unlock process.

Idea ?

I don't have a second active sim available at the moment to try, I tried with an inactive in tray 1 where my active sim normally is and put it in the sim 2 slot and phone worked fine but I somehow doubt that 2 active sim will work with just 1 imei as it would get picked up as two phones by the carriers/providers even if it worked and that could cause the imei to get blocked.

---------- Post added at 10:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:36 PM ----------

edit above* ment getting picked up by carrier as 2 different phones due to 2 sims but using same imei and that would get blocked.

people have been modifying sim trays for the s7's/s7 edges to run dual sims. pretty sure the hardware is all there for these devices. videos are on youtube.
