Albino's developement thread is meant for development, meaning posts should be focused on bug reporting (with logcats) and assistance in improving the ROM. Development threads on XDA are NOT intended to be 24/7 tech support for everyone who has issues with the ROM.

But even the best Android modders out there need some help configuring or changing settings once in a while. So this thread will be a great place to ask all the tech support type questions you have that aren't really related to the further development of the ROM. This will then leave the development thread a little less cluttered with day to day support questions which will allow Albino to read through the development related posts faster so he can continue improving this great ROM.

XDA members who don't have the 10 posts required to post in development threads are more than welcome to ask their questions here as well! In this thread there is no such thing as a dumb question!

ALL QUESTIONS ARE WELCOME HERE!

(In the development thread, that rule does not apply. Many questions will be dumb there and will be answered accordingly.)

Before we get started I will say one very important thing that applies to ALL ROMs. Before you ask any questions about any ROM, read the first post of that ROM's development thread. I promise you that you will find many of your answers there.

And finally, if someone in this thread helps you, please take a second to click their 'thanks' button! Someone has taken the time to assist you, and clicking thanks will make them feel appreciated so they come back the next day and help someone else! You get 8 thanks a day, don't be stingy with them! (I'm not even talking about me. I'm not looking for 'thanks'. Save them for others who directly answer your questions. They will deserve it.)

To the experienced users who might be able to help your fellow XDA members asking basic questions in this thread, please take the time to do so. You were new to all of this once yourself. You needed some hand holding and basic coaching on simple stuff at one point. Pay that forward! And be patient with repeat questions, but don't hessitate to try and teach someone how to use the 'search' feature either.

How to best ask for help in this thread!

Give the following information when asking your questions. This will greatly help the community to find you an answer.

Are you S-On or S-Off? (If you don't know, you are S-On)

What firmware version are you using?

What is the build date of the Albino ROM you are having trouble with?
(Go to Settings>About Phone>Read the Build Date)

What have you already tried to fix the problem? (No point in telling you to try 12 things you've already done)

And I can't stress this last one enough...BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE!!!

Please don't ask your question in this thread AND in the develoment thread. If you do you can expect to get flamed in the development thread.

Some of the most frequestly asked questions....

Where is the actual development thread that has all the download links?

Click here. It's all in the first post.
You can find the most up to date changelogs and download links in that first post as well.

If you just want to update from your current install of Albino's ROM, you can use the Goo Manager app that came with it. Check your app drawer.

How do I install this rom?

1: If you are coming from another ROM do a full wipe
1a: if this is just an update to THIS ROM BASE you can simply wipe cache and dalvik cache
2: Flash gapps (not needed if you are simply updating from an earlier version of this ROM)
3: Reboot
4: Enjoy CyanogenMod 10.1

I have a question about Bruce's CM10 Android 4.1.2 ROM. Is there an awesome thread like this one for that ROM?

There sure is, you lucky devil!

Dag nabbit! How come I can't scan networks? And why won't my MMS's work either?

Because you need to read this thread and do what it says, my friend!

I'm still getting the annoying blinking data bug on T Mobile USA? I thought Albino fixed that!

It does appear to be fixed. However the fix breaks data for Sensation users in Europe. You have to make an adjustment to the build.prop to fix it in the USA. See this post for instructions on what to do and enjoy reveling in the death of that bug.

I live in a different country and my WiFi doesn't work!

Read this about country codes in WiFi. Enjoy the working WiFi goodness that follows.

I cannot live without Sweep2Wake! How do I put that kind of voodoo magic on my phone?!

Simple. You check out this post and follow the instructions.

Suddenly ADB doesn't work. It can't see my phone. What the bleep has gone wrong?!

You need to update ADB to be compatible with Android 4.2.2. It's a security issue put into 4.2.2 by Google.
Dkephart has created this easy to follow guide explaining how to do that.
(If use that guide, give Dkephart thanks.)

What happened to the Developer Options in the settings menu?

To prevent every noob from messing with those settings and screwing up their phone, the CM team hid the settings so you can't change them by accident.
To view this menu go to the Settings>About Phone>and tap the build number 6 or 7 times.
The Developers Options will now be available in the main settings menu

Gasp! The advanced reboot menu that lets me reboot into recovery or bootloader is gone! Can I get it back?

It's still available. It's just no longer turned on by default.
Go to Settings>Developer Options (See questions above)>and click on Advanced Reboot

My phone is constantly rebooting when on this ROM. Am I doing something wrong?

Maybe, maybe not. Rebooting has been an issue since the beginning with this ROM. It's gotten MUCH MUCH better and continues to improve daily. It's a ROM in development still, so there is always going to be that chance for the ocacsional reboot. Don't freak out if it happens once in a while. But if it's a regular occurance, try the following...
1) Your battery may be loose. Put a peice of thick paper next to the battery to wedge it up against the connector pins. There is a great guide somewhere around here with pictures, but I can't find it. If anyone posts the link to it in this thread I'll add it up here.
2) Some Sensations can't handle being underclocked to 192 (but some can). 384 is the minimum stable clock speed for some Sensations. There's nothing you can do about it other than set your minimum processor speed to 384.
3) Try not to undervolt at 192 or 384 either. Too much undervolting can cause reboots.

I think my battery is draining too fast. What is normal?

Don't judge battery life by how long you go between charges. Judge it by how much combined 'screen on time' and 'phone call time'. Those are the two biggest battery drains in any smartphone. When the battery is down to 2-3% you should see about 2.5 hours of combined screen on and phone call time on a good stock battery or 4+ hours on an Anker. (I've never tried other batteries which may givedifferent results). That may takes you 6 hours since unplugging or it make take you 3 days.

If you're not a power user though and leave the phone in your pocket most of the time, you may see 2-3 days between charges, but less than the 2.5 to 4 hours of screen + talk time. The battery is being used when the phone is idle, so if you have 40-50 hours of idle time, it will cut down on the total screen on and talk time you'll have on a charge.

Of course depending on your set up and screen brightness and all that sort of of stuff your milage may vary. The numbers I'm giving here are examples. And they only apply to the Sensation running Albino's CM10.1 ROM. On another ROM, expect totally different battery results.

If you are seeing something like 1 hour of screen + talk time and the battery isn't even making it through a single day, something's wrong. If you've got the original battery, go buy an Anker one. They aren't expensive and the difference will shock and amaze you.

If your battery is new and you get 1 hour os screen + talk time, ask about it specifically. There's probably something specific wrong with your set up or a rouge app causing wakelocks.

Should I wipe my battery stats to help calibrate my battery?

No. It's a giant waste of time. Calibrating a battery isn't a real thing. It's a myth.

Wiping battery stats isn't without it's place though. I like to do it occasionally to clear my battery graph so I can easily see if changes I make mid battery cycle are being effective. Things like trying to squish a wakelock or something. It's nice to be able to start over on the battery stats sometimes to see if the change was effective. But this will NOT help your battery life.

I get a TON of wakelocks caused by Google Services Framework. What gives?

Google thinks that your phone is thier phone and that they can have their stuff run 24/7 for whatever reason. If you're willing to sacrifice Google Talk and Google Search (Googel Now) and don't mind if your signal bars always stay grey and never turn colors, follow this guide....

You can end the Google Services wakelocks, improve your battery, and if you don't use GTalk or Google Search now, you won't even know anything is missing.

I hear that AC!D Mod is awesome. Can I use it on this ROM?

Yup. Click here to find out how. Thanks to Shawa2 for the write up!

I still see graphical glitches. And my bar code scanner doesn't work. What gives with that?

Disable H/W overlays in the developer settings. Don't know where to find developer settings? Look at the 5th question in this thread.

Sweet mother of god! My wifi isn't working! Don't make me rely on mobile data speeds! I need downloads NOW!!!

This is a common issue for people who are S-ON and have flashed the rom improperly? Use 4EXT Recovery to flash your ROM, enable smartflash and reflash the ROM. It should fix the problem.

Man this ROM is awesome! Can I donate to Albino somehow?

Yup! He's kind of shy about it and certainly isn't asking for it nor does he expect it. But he certainly deserves it.
Here's his note about the matter from the development thread...

I really didn't want to do this but people keep asking so here is a donation link if you want to buy me a coffee or pack of smokes (I go through a lot sitting on the PC messing around lol) go ahead. But not required or expected by any means

Happy Flashing

Just post the link to this thread when they ask a basic question in the development thread. The questions that are dumb questions in the dev thread are more than welcome here.

I also would hope that people who take the time to answer those questions in this thread do so with patience and understanding. Remember, we were all new to this ourselves at one point. We ALL needed a little hand holding in the beginning. There's nothing wrong with asking questions! (As long as it's in this thread nad not a dev thread)

That being said...to all the experienced users please check this thread out regularly and look for people you might be able to help out. XDA is a beter forum when everyone is trying to help each other.

wifi can't connect

Deal All,
I'm just installed this amazing rom but I'm finding a seriuis issue:

wifi can detect all the networks around but can't connect to them. Just saying "Saved" or "Connecting" for a few seconds.

I tried fixing it with all the tricks I found in the forums (wipe of all partitions, boot without SIM, wifix, getril, boot.img flash, static IP) but no way to make it work. Tested both the 201230306 20130307 versions.

In the past I had the same issue installing android1234567's kernel on CM9 Opensensation. I solved using tamcore's kernel. This time I'm just using the kernel packed in the rom.

Maybe different hardware? Mine is European Sensation, not 4G.

Thanks for your support.

Are you S-On or Off?

What firmware version? Have you tried changing firmware?

It's really strange that you can see the networks and not connect to them. Obviously the Wifi radio is working. But you're having authentication issues. This is not a super common problem with this ROM. That leads me to believe that your set up is messed up somehow. And that's a good thing because it probably means it's fixable.

If all else fails I would bet this can be fixed by doing a full RUU back to stock and starting over. Re-root and s-off and flash Albino's ROM fresh. But let's not jump to those drastic measures just yet...

Oh wait....sorry it just hit me. I've never made this settings change myself so it didn't cocur to me right away.

You need to set the Wifi settings to the Europe region code. Europe uses different Wifi frequency bands than the US does, so your phone is trying the wrong frequencies to connect.

Go to your Wifi settings in main menu. Click the menu button (the one beneath the screen, second from the left), then click ADVANCED, and 5th row from teh top you should see Wi-Fi Region Code. Click that and switch it to whatever country you are in. I think Europe is listed as 1 county if you're actually in Europe.

Let us know if this helped!

Thanks for the thread, that's the thread I've been looking for before I had 10 posts.
My question is not very ROM related, I could not find any thread here or using google talking about this, but I saw a post today in the ROM thread (and I cannot find it right now) so I'll give it a try.

Background of the question:
Someone asked if it is using space to let appollo or another google app since it is on the system partition. Another answered that's ok and he has a custom partitioning of the System / Data, as the ROM is using so little space.

My question now: I am S-OFF, I know that it might be possible to flash / modify the MTD (?) paritioning / system / cache / data to have more space for apps for example.
I have been doing this on my HTC Desire using the alpharev custom HBOOT from this page (http://alpharev.nl/)

Has anyone here modified his partition system ? What would you recommand as partition sizes if running the ROM from Albinoman ? How would you proceed ?
Any experienced problem ?

Thanks in advance.

Unless you have REALLY specific needs to do this, I wouldn't mess with it. It's very easy to brick your phone when partitioning the entire internal memory. If you make it unreable somehow it coudl be very difficult to recover it.

And there probably isn't a huge need to do so. The internal storage has 1GB of memory. That should give you more than enough room for a couple hundred apps and all of their data. Keep in mind that the apps using large amounts of data space will all use the SD card anyway. So they take up even less room internally. And most apps are only like 0-5MB anyway.

The system partition is about 3GB so there is deffinately extra space that you could be using there. But you could expand the user partition to maybe 3GB. Is that extra 2GB really worth it? Especially when you can just go buy a 64GB SD card for like $40? Or a 32GD SD card for like $20? Then you'll have more storage than you would ever needon a smartphone with 0 risk of bricking the device.

However, I'm not your father and can't tell you what to do.

So if you still want to try it...start your research here.

http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...ng-htc-sensation-4gb-internal-memory-for-data

Then research some more. And then some more after that. Make sure you REALLY know what you're doing.

I see your point, I don't have 4 Gb internal or system. Adding both I can count 2 Gb.
I still have 443 o on system and 564 on Internal so I guess I'll be safe for a looooong time.
HTC Desire had such low memory it was a must to do so, we also had A2SD and so on. I also did a ext3 partition on the SD card of my sensation and did not see any improvement, so I went back today to full FAT32. I evolve just slowly from desire world / thinking into sensation but still, I'm learning ;)
I guess the juice is not worth the squeeze in this case. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: [FAQ] FAQ and Troubleshooting Help for Albino's CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 ROM

First of all, thank you Skipjacks for this thread! You have made a n00b feel very welcome!

My question is regarding Acid Audio with this rom... I have come from Frankinstine's 4.1.2 AOKP build and the sound really blew away! I have a pair of beats headphones and I don't feel it's as loud on this rom and even gets tinny at high volumes.

Is it a complicated process to flash? Do I need to remove existing audio setup (DSP)? Do I re flash acid after any updates to this rom? Where be the links I need?

Thanks in advance!

Sweep2Wake : How to enable it

Not a question but something I just found out and want to share with other noobs on this ROM.

I already heard about sweep2wake, did not know what it was. I just flashed the 7 mar build so I had to redo my /system/etc/init.d/99kernel adjustments. I found out that the sweep2wake is to be enabled here and not in any other settings or apps !

Why would you want to activate it ? Well IMHO and coming from HTC desire, we had trackball wake, which was very useful. On this ROM you either have Power Button or Volume Rocker wake, which I did not like. Sweep2Wake enables you to wake your device by swiping from the HOME button to the Search button. Pretty cool for me.

How to do it ?

  1. Use ES File Explorer or any other file manager allowing you to go up to the root.
  2. Go to /system/ etc/ init.d
  3. Edit the 99kernel file with some txt editor (You need to enable root access to save the file !)
  4. Find the line # Enable Sweep2Wake
  5. Replace 0 by 1 or 2 if you want backlight or not.
  6. Reboot
  7. Let your screen go to sleep
  8. Slide your finger over the buttons (starting from home)
  9. Smile / Say "Sweeeeeet"
  10. Thank Beri

I don't know if it works or not as I've never tried it. But here is the process to try it and find out.

Make a full nandroid backup of your current set up so you can revert if this screws things up. I cannot stress this enough.

Freeze DSP manager using something like System Tuner. Don't uninstall it so you can go right back to it if this fails.

Reboot into recovery and flash the Acid mod.zip. You are on your own to find the zip file.

Reboot and see what happens. If its all messed up simply reboot into recovery and restore you nandroid backup and all will back like it was 10 minutes prior.

Whatever happens, report the results back here so others can learn from them

data

Thanks for this thread SkipJacks

After doing a clean wipe you know even after flashing the newest gapps i noticed that my phone still remembers my wifi password and a bunch of settings that i had in the previous rom. I usually just do a clean data wipe and dont mess with the other stuff like wipe dalick cache and things of that nature. almost like it didnt fully wipe everything. My question is, is there another way to erase the data that saves my wifi password and system settings?

using 4ext btw

Two things which hasn't been for the last two builds.

1) If I try to enable video-recording with the front-facing camera (the camera app crashes with the message "Error cannot open gallary").

2) In previous builds I was able to do a Network scan (by that I mean I could get a list of available Network operators).

But now if I attempt to do this I get the error "Error while scanning for network".

Any idears on howto solve these errors?

Albino's developement thread is meant for development, meaning posts should be focused on bug reporting (with logcats) and assistance in improving the ROM. Development threads on XDA are NOT intended to be 24/7 tech support for everyone who has issues with the ROM.

    Battery: the tiresome topic!

I'm using this ROM for quite a long time now, normally I'll try to just keep silent and ignore battery related posts, especially in the dev thread. As I could see in the past months, this just would not help, why I decided to become active in this forum as well. I think that some users must be "forced" to silence (no offense!). To state (once again) that there is definetly NO battery problem with this ROM, if so there may just be some "general" problems with jellybean on our device, which could be sorted out easily. I'll take the time and write a detailed post how you can configure your device and receive results like following:

http://imgur.com/a/xSdpK (It's a gallery of six screenshots, would take to much space in here)

    summed up:
    • screen-on time: ~4h 30m
    • device awake: ~5h (if you look at the screens, you will see that the difference between awake and screen on is because of the wakelocks, which are needed to make it possible that you could use services like mail, whatsapp and so on in deep sleep)
    • deep sleep: ~20h
    • total time since boot: 1d 1h
    • wifi on: 1d 1h; no airplane mode, full sync on all the time
    • battery left: 4%, shut down some minutes after the screens were uploaded (to be fair - it's an Anker, ~4 month old)

What did I do to achieve this? Let's start with the "lineup":

Let's move on with the configuration, first of all the kernel:
    • mpdecision on
    • ondemand governor, balanced profile
    • max/phase2/min/scroff freqs: 1566/972/384/594
    • 2D/3D gpu freqs: 200/267
    • I/O scheduler, read ahead size: sio, 128kb
    • minfree: medium (4,8,16,32,48,64)
    • ksm: disabled
    • fsync: enabled all the time (not dynamic)
    • vsync: enabled
    • sweep2wake off, backlight buttons dimmed (which doesn't have influence imo)
    • no UV
    • (don't forget to delete the original 99kernel from init.d, as it would conflict with the sultan 99z_kernel)

    swap:
    • single swap in system: 350mb
    • swappiness: 85 (you have to change this one manually in the init.d script)

Swap has an influence on battery life (at least imo), because it will help that some apps just don't have to load again and again, especially those you will use quite often. In the end it's up to you, but I made great experiences using swap in this configuration. I'm testings since some weeks to eliminate lag, with these settings I got magnificent results as you can see. Multitasking improved alot as well.

Additionally I added maps, dropbox and facebook to greenify, as those were some processes which wanted to keep my phone awake very much. Also I added some of my apps which used to create wakelocks as well, you will have to see on your own (using betterbatterystats, monitoring). Greenify just is a great app, which I didn't know for a very long time.

Processes I completly froze (because I don't need them and some of them were creating wakelocks as well - If you need them, maybe add them to greenify):
    • Talk
    • TalkBack
    • Picasa Uploader
    • E-Mail
    • Exchange-Services
    • Apollo
    • (basically this relies on your usage, you have to check what creates wakelocks and decide on your own, what to freeze/greenify or what you just will accept)

I disabled google now in the settings, still using the search bar though. I don't know what I could have forgotten, I think that's it basically. My usage was not "heavy" as I don't use my phone to play games with it or watch movies all the time. Mostly I'll surf the web, read articles, use WhatsApp, check and write e-mails, sometimes I would even call somebody ;). Data sync was enabled all the time, over night as well, no airplane mode or tricks like that.

If you got questions or I maybe forgot some details, here is the right place to discuss such things. I don't want to brag with this post, although I was surprised on my own, what you could get out of this device using this ROM. People often forget, that this is Android 4.2.2 and our phone is 2 years old and far away from beeing officially supported. I know that those battery moaners can't be silenced forever, but it needs results like those to prove they're wrong. I hope I could make clear what I did, not just posting the result but also going into detail how everybody could achieve those results on his/her phone.

tl;dr: 4h 30m screen on time, battery life is great, everything else is user error and/or laziness - proved!

    Acid Audio How-To Install Guide

As promised, here's all the links and details you need to install Acid Audio for your Sensation on Albino's CM10.1 ROM. For the full information on this MOD, please read their XDA thread HERE

First of all, all credit goes to TEAM AC!D !

    What you'll need
    (source Version 7 build 2802/2805 for ICS/JB)

    Step by Step
1- Put the downloaded files on your phone's SD card
    2- Reboot in to Recovery
3- MAKE A NANDROID!! (you've been warned! the process works for me but devices have lives of their own... cover your own back!)
    4- Flash "[AOSP3]AC!D_Audio_Engine_v7build_2802.zip" first
    5- Flash "[AOSP3]AC!D_Audio_Engine_v7build_2805.zip" second
    6- Wipe Dalvik Cache
    7- Fix Permissions
    8- Reboot & Enjoy!

    FAQs
When I flash Albinoman's next build, will I lose AC!D and go back to DSP Manager?
From my experience - yes. I just flashed a new build (wiped Cache & Dalvik first) and I went back to DSP. What I recommend is putting the AC!D mods in the same folder as the new build and flash them all in one go. It only adds 2 minutes to the process!! (Obviously in the right order! Build, Gapps, AC!D 2802, AC!D 2805)

Special thanks to Skipjacks & aidanski for helping me find all this out
