Hi,

I would like to test this ROM. Could you please confirm that the following steps are correct (to be sure that I'm not doing something stupid)?

####
Device: MB525 (Green)
The version I want to flash: latest (21.10)
Current version: MIUI 2.3.7
####

Backup:

1. contacts & sms
2. apps using titanium backup
3. reboot in recovery and create a rom backup

Flashing (all in the recovery):

1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Wipe cache partition
3. Advanced -> wipe dalvik cache
4. Choose the rom zip file and flash
|__a. first " CM10-20121018-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip " (As I've read it is unified version although mb526 is written)
|__b. second " update_for_18.10.zip "
5. Choose the Gapps and flash ( " gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip " )
6. steps 2&3 again
7. reboot

These are the sole steps as I understood (i.e. no kernal flash etc.). Please correct me if I'm going to do something wrong.

Thank you in advance,
Mark.

At the very moment, to be precise, for point 3. you shall flash 18.10 build and 21.10 update. The rest is ok :cowboy:

For backup your contacts are usually backed up with your google account, in such a case just sync to make sure account is updated.
And you can back up your smses, if you care, with any proper app from google market

Thanks corrinti! (I've also updated the original post according to your response)
Does it matter the "mb526" in the file name? (mine is mb525 )
BTW, Is the required kernel already in the ROM build?

Yes, kernel is in the ROM. It is for all 2nd boot builds by Quarx, at least till now

MB526 doesn't matter, though if any app would be incompatible because of it (someone somewhere reported it) then you can change it in build.prop file, and the easiest way is to do it with build.prop editor from GooglePlay - but take care with any changes or you will have to flash the ROM again :D

I see something wrong!

In the step 5, i think is wrong to make a "Wipe data/factory reset" i think you will need a wipe Cache and Dalvik...

Sleep mode

If someone has battery drain in sleep mode, you can try to do this steps:
1. Reboot phone. Wait for 10-15 minutes.
3. Insert the USB - nothing happens on the phone. (Notifications Debugging and connect via USB does not appear).
4. Take out the USB.
5. Reconnect USB wait minute or so.
6. Take out the USB.
Now device should sleep correctly.
Tested on latest CM10-20121018-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip with update update_for_18.10.zip

720p recording

I'm certainly stupid but I follow this thread since the first post and I never understood how to record a movie with a 720p resolution. All my videos have a 480p resolution.

Configuration : MB526 (Defy+) w/ last CM10 (24.10)

It seems a lot has changed since I last read instructions for custom roms and need some help.

I have am MB525 Red Lens running CodeName Android 3.6.5 with gb kernel (kernel-gb-234-451-134-signed.zip). I don't think I've ever installed a custom bootloader. Do I need to do anything different when installing the latest CM10 with 4.1.2 using 2ndboot rather than 2ndinit? Normally I do wipe cache/davlik/system then flash rom, flash gapps, flash battery fix.

This is a very subjective question, but in order to get the best experience, which ROM, bootloader and kernel should I be using?

Thanks
Do the same. No need to flash the fix i think.
Wipe cache, dalvik cache.
Install zip
Wipe them again.
Done.
If coming from anything other than CM10, wipe data. If not no problem.
Also flash the kernel update too after this ok.. or along with tgus after flashing ROM.
ROM big file >100mb
Kernel update small <10mb

Thank if I was helpful.
Cheers

Great workaround against battery drain in sleep mode!

Tested on latest CM10-20121018-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip with update update_for_18.10.zip

This is a really great workaround against battery drain in sleep mode! :good: :good: :good:
This method works very well for me and is always reproducable!

Before I had about 45 mA/h (2,5 %/h) while deepsleep during day (with 3G on) and about 30 mA/h (1,8 %/h) while deepsleep during night (by using JuiceDefender app, 3G and WIFI are off most of the time).

After appliing this method (which unfortunately has to be done after every reboot), i have just about 25 mA/h (1,5 %/h) while deepsleep during day and about 8 mA/h (0,5 %/h) while deepsleep during night, which are similar to the good numbers I had under Gingerbread.

BTW, using KSM, zRam and Swap don't influence battery drain, at least not significantly, in my experience. I got the above mentioned drains with KSM and zRAM enabled!

However, disabling "settings > location > access to my location" and "google > maps and latitude" options, as posted a couple of times on the development thread, *does* have some impact on battery drain, so I keep these options disabled.

I'm reading the development thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702 for a couple of weeks now and unfortunately it seems that they haven't taken notice of -=lov=-'s great finding yet. :( I think that there is something about the USB drivers not properly initialized in the Custom Kernels yet, which leads to the much discussed battery drains. I'm quite sure that this should be fixable by Quarx.

Unfortunately, I cannot post in the development thread yet (actually this is my very first post because I found this topic this so important).

Therefore I would like to ask somebody on this FAQ thread to try this method himself and give a hint
on the development thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702, so that the
developers and especially Quarx can take notice and finally fix the battery drain caused by the USB driver
bug (or whatever it is). :fingers-crossed: :highfive: :victory:
Thank you for your support!

Thanks to -=lov=- for his great finding and to Quarx for his superb CM10 ROM and Custom Kernel (if he is reading this thread nonetheless...) :D

Thx man!

I can even remember that it seems to be the same for me, although i didn't notice the coincidence.

seems to work even with plain charger, not only on pc-usb.

will report if the behaviour is true when further investigated.

und Grüße nach Düsseldorf ;)
