I recently purchased this phone from Virgin Mobile to replace my Epic 4g Touch. I was wondering about this Knox boot loader. Is there a safe root/unroot method yet? And is it possible to reset the Knox flag with a jig like withe the Epic 4g touch?
Unless its very different from the GS4 with Knox. There are ways to root without tripping Knox. But once you install a custom recovery to begin modding and flashing that will trip Knox. And as of yet there is no possible way to reset the counter as most say it is an e-fuse.

So you're saying there is a possible safe root? And that stinks that the flag will be permanently tripped. That sounds like something our good friends over at Apple would do.

Hi There CNexus, :)
Regarding your answer to ndno quoted above,
Can you suggest which one of the freeza's MD4-Roms collection you suggest to use? Sadly, I have trouble to choose which one to donwload

I have the same problem as ndno, and I think about flashing 4.1.2 to my knoxed SGS3.
As I need to do something with the carrier used in my country, and it's only possible to be done in 4.1.2.

Your help very much appreciated. :)

...apple won't let us flash anything PERIOD... all Samsung does is void the warranty which f.y.i if you don't want to void your warranty you probably shouldn't be rooting period.

Exactly. My sister wanted to downgrade from iOS 7 but couldn't. I could finally brag about how much more open android is.

Now that you have tripped it you can flash any ROM you want. The only thing you can't do is downgrade your firmware. For example: if you Odin MD4 you will brick your device.

Technically u can always unbrick with the sdcard trick so its not a hide deal but knox sucks

Knox has not effected me whatsoever... But that's just me.

totally agree with this statement. it's always talked about like it screws up your phone, or it's detrimental to being able to do custom stuff with your phone.

all it means is that you can't revert back to an older firmware (why would you if you want to be up to date?), and your warranty is voided if you root and install a custom recovery. other than that, it has no bearing on being able to flash the newest roms, which i think is the main reason everyone is here!

I'm hesitant to go to any kit Kat builds for the fear of my phone messing up right after and then having to take it to best buy for a replacement :(

That's like saying I'm not gonna open this door because there might be a ghost behind it... Have you seen anybody say this happened? The only people that bricked flashed the ND8 modem on the MD4 Bootloader.

It's not the bricking, it is the tripping the counter that worries me. My wife is having some charging issues with hers, and it is rooted, but not on kit Kat yet. As for me, we have three kids under three, anything can happen.

Actually, from what I've read and from my own experience, flashing the ND8 modem on the MD4 bootloader is OK. Flashing it on MK3 resulted in bricked phones. That said, it's just as well that Cnexus removed the ND8 modem because many people don't seem to be aware of what bootloader they have. But I have noticed an improvement since flashing it.

Actually I think you've got that a little mixed up, the only people that bricked flashed the nd8 modem on the mk3 bootloader... I've not seen one instance where someone on the md4 bootloader bricked flashing the modem... I even ran it for about 4 days on the md4 bootloader before upgrading the nd8
