That is something that I just can't stress enough...

Yet people STILL apply UPDATES! :(
I know :( Like I get wanting to have the 'latest' but if people just waited a day or two it's almost guaranteed that someone will make a rooted, flashable stock ROM for both other devs to use as a base and users to try out. I don't get it xD

EDIT: Also LOL @ "I do not mess around with updates. HTC, you are NOT touching my device."

Thanks for the comment! I definitely enjoy what I do. I try not to be boring and do the same thing over and over again. I like to make people smile and laugh. I'm hear to entertain, learn, and teach... all at the same same time! :)

Q: But I have to take my phone in for servicing! How can I prevent Sprint techs from knowing I unlocked my bootloader?
A: If you did LazyPanda S-OFF method, then regaw_leinad wrote a great guide located here that will give you detailed instructions step-by-step to not only get your phone back to S-ON, but also replace the bootloader tag with ***LOCKED*** to make it impossible for anyone to know you ever unlocked.

[/LIST]
FYI, it's in Sprint's methods and procedures to allow servicing of rooted and unlocked devices just as if they were not rooted or unlocked. They are supposed to warn of the dangers of rooting a device, but continue with service work just as though it's unrooted.

Indeed, they changed this policy not long ago. I still think most people (me included) would rather them not know that I root/unlock my phone because they will try to use that as an excuse for whatever the problem is (if it's software related). I also simply don't want them nagging at me trying to lecture me, especially when it's your average Joe working retail without any understanding of electronics ;)

I was wondering if you could change the color of the soft keys light like how the one x plus has red soft keys instead of blue like the evo lte

Is this happening on the default browser on on a third party one? Try clearing the app settings for the browser and resetting it up.

You can't out of the box. Our phones only have a white LED under the hood, you could, theoretically open the phone up, and either swap the LED (risky) or put some colored tape over the LED. Now I haven't tested the last method and I do not know if it will cause any damage so do it at your own risk. But to answer the question directly -- no it's not possible without any third party modifications.

Thanks for responding. Went through every data reset, internet app to clear it out. I'm connecting to airave 2.5 which sends me to San Diego when I connect. I'd love to live there but it's 200 miles away. Apparently when I connect it resets to a default. They said they would push a firmware through soon. Have titanium back-up with home page set to the right thing. Annoying though. For anybody reading this... if you visit too many sites too often, clearing data base, settings/apps/all (at the top) scroll to internet, clear data, good to go. Nothing new I'm sure.

Good news. 4G LTE is sporadic but hitting Los Angeles.

UPDATED! Q: How do I unlock the bootloader?
A: The safest and official way is using HTC's unlock method located here however, this will void your warranty with HTC and on the newer bootloaders it will limit what you can do.

UPDATED! Q: But I don't want to void my warranty with HTC/I want more freedom, is there a dev S-OFF method?
A: Yes there is, Team Unlimited created two tools for our device: LazyPanda which requires HBOOT 1.12 and DirtyRacun which requires HBOOT 1.15 or 1.19.
I just attemtped to use that Dirty Racun method because I did not want to "officially" void my warranty on a device I haven't even owned 24 hours, but thank God I've learned to read a whole guide before proceeding with it, because on Step 11 of this page, you're told to go to htcdev.com and get the Unlock_code.bin file (which requires device information in order to void your warranty without any express notification from the linked website, above).

So, please correct your information so people who aren't thinking won't unintentionally screw themselves.

Otherwise, this is one of the best resources for FAQ I have ever seen on XDA. Take pride in it!

UPDATED! Q: Does S-OFF work on any Hboot?
A: If you have HBOOT 1.12 you can use LazyPanda to achieve S-OFF get it here. If you have 1.15 or 1.19 you can either use the newly released DirtyRacun located here.
This is actually incorrect. For jewel we only support DirtyRacun - users on all HBOOTs released at this time need to use the DirtyRacun process as listed on our website. Also HTC Dev Unlock is *REQUIRED* when using our tools so under the "won't void warranty" this is a misnomer.

They DID say to use LazyPand on the OLD hboot, and DirtyRacun on the new hboots. If they have 1.12 still, even your site recommends LazyPanda. Sow how is he incorrect?

Whoops. I updated the answer but didn't rephrase the question. Originally it did make sense because LazyPanda did not need you to use the HTC dev unlock method. However seeing as DirtyRacun is the supported and recommended method at the moment I will edit the post accordingly. Also thank you for your compliment!

At the time of my edit, your website still had and you could access LazyPanda. I now see that it redirects to DirtyRacun and will update the post accordingly. I thank you for taking time posting on this thread at all, keep doing what you guys do! :good:

Indeed, that's why my question/answer was worded that way but if you try to go to the LazyPanda page it will redirect you to DirtyRacun now.

Ah, yes! It does now say hboot 1.12 for DirtyRacun! So all the hboots are now supported by one tool. I still have my old LazyPanda stuff, as I don't get rid of anything. It was very nice not having to void your warranty through HTC Dev to get S-OFF. Even the OP (on the LazyPanda thread) stated you didn't need to be unlocked, but now you do. So I'll continue to use LazyPanda on Evo 4G LTE's that have not been updated, as you don't need to void your warranty first.

EDIT: *If you have HBOOT 1.12 you must use the DirtyRacun process to upgrade your RUU to gain S-OFF.

Yeah, I won't be doing that to hboot 1.12 phones. Just running LazyPanda and then updating everything via S-OFF! :)

Yeah, my girlfriend had to get her phone replaced (smashed the screen) and her new one had the newest Hboot so I had to use DirtyRacun. I have to say that the tool is flawless. It's works perfectly -- not that LazyPanda didn't -- I just haven't seen many (if any) people say that their device got bricked. My phone still used LazyPanda although I did lose warranty because I was impatient and unlocked the phone when I first got it (way before the Panda came along).

Yeah... I unlocked mine before S-OFF as well. BUT I've ran the one click root (without unlocking) and then ran LazyPanda to S-OFF other Evo 4G LTE's. A guy here still has that hboot as well. I gotta S-OFF his. Now I'm just wondering if I have the latest LazyPanda! Lol

6829df18524c92912bee4ace18a6c906

Googling that MD5 takes you to some links that are still available. I won't share them here on XDA, as several people have reported bricks by using a newer base and etc. I have more than one LazyPanda (zip), but that's the one I had readily available on my Flash Drive.

EDIT 2: Even the LazyPanda thread shows LOCKED then S-OFF! :)
Screenshot: http://i46.tinypic.com/2ege3rt.jpg

So one of these has MD5: 2dc433256e85556d6a4a0f4bc495cdc0 and other has 6829df18524c92912bee4ace18a6c906. I wonder which one is the latest one? I'll have to see if I have anymore on my computer at home.

EDIT 3: Okay, so I figured it out! At 43 Seconds into this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDp8nJeAHPw it had the MD5 of 2dc433256e85556d6a4a0f4bc495cdc0, so that was the very first initial release. The other MD5 is the later version. Sweet! I'll just put this old one away for now.

Does anyone know of a way that I can fool apps (Asphalt 7 for example) into thinking I'm on WiFi instead of LTE? I recently lost the ability to have real in-home WiFi and have been tethering the heck out of my computer and tablet, but I miss being able to play games online on my phone.

The only way I can think of is if you tether another device to your phone. For example if your tablet has 3g or lte connection or use someone else's phone. That way your phone will technically be connected to wifi and the app won't be able to tell the difference.
